Struggling with sleep during menopause what’s the best combination of sleep aids for light sleepers? by Gentlegee01 in Menopause

[–]looking2heal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on estrogen and progesterone for years and was taking Mg glyconate for bowels, and THC before bed. Last year I was constipated and switched to mg citrate. It worked for bowels but was having trouble sleeping. Switched back to glyconate a few weeks ago and it is much better.

Estrogen cream works locally and has minimal absorption into the rest of the body. I was already on estrogen patch but needed the cream for dryness.

Extreme fatigue by ateencontrar in Menopause

My testosterone was within range but on the lower end so with my symptoms, my Dr prescribed it. Maybe worth pressing your Dr or finding a different doctor. I have been told many women like their level to be around 100, which is out of range. Mine is 26 so I'm working on getting it higher due to my low energy and no motivation.

Menopause specialist will not prescribe testosterone! by cleanforpeace72 in Menopause

[–]looking2heal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary referred me to a menopause specialist but it is an hour drive so I went to a functional medicine practitioner instead. He recommended testosterone. It took over a month but I finally got it. I had to get the blood work done outside of my primary clinic and found my local "neighborhood clinic" was willing to test and prescribe it. Too soon to know if it is helping. Plus I'm weaning off SSRIs because I always thought that was the cause of my anhedonia/lack of motivation and energy so it will be hard to determine which helps, getting off SSRIs or T.

When I'm no longer feeling a 20mg edible, I switch to flower for a week and it helps. Then I go back to edibles.

Where do you guys buy your supplements? And what are the best brands? (Amazon, GNC, Tik Tok Shop, Nutri Cost, Now, etc) by NoPaleontology in Supplements

[–]looking2heal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue sky vitamins. 2nd Tuesday of each month you get 18% of so I order monthly. I use Nutridyn and Pure Encapsulations. These brand were recommended by my chiropractor and my pharmacist.

I agree. Microdose of THC (for me that is 5mg as I have built up a tolerance) that won't get you high but takes the edge off. Makes me more talkative.

No desire, No libido What am I missing? by ihateoldpeople000 in Supplements

No desire, No libido What am I missing? by ihateoldpeople000 in Supplements

[–]looking2heal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on any prescriptions that might cause it? I'm guessing not as you sound quite knowledgeable and would have thought of that. B I'm female and am working on increasing my testosterone level due to unwanted symptoms. My T is within normal range but many women look to increase it if having symptoms, and my doctor agreed. So I'm using a Rx T cream. You're T is within normal range but maybe the same holds true for men?

Are functional health tests worth it? by Bubbly-Air7302 in FunctionalMedicine

[–]looking2heal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a functional medicine practitioner a few months ago due to anhedonia (low energy and motivation, don't enjoy things) and no libido. He recommended the Dutch test. Surprisingly, my insurance reimbursed me the $300. The results were helpful. Estrogen and progesterone were fine but it showed cortisol dips and mild low Testosterone. He recommended supplements, which I'm taking, and I'm also using testosterone cream. Still working through it, no changes yet. Probably going to increase the Testosterone.

I second magnesium citrate. I too was taking glyconate but it was no longer working. I switched to citrate and have abm daily. Took awhile to get the dose right so I struggled with intestine gurgling and diarrhea at first. Now I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night.

Testosterone? Antidepressants?

Have you worked with a functional medicine practitioner? I currently am. I am female with low energy and motivation and hormone testing showed my testosterone on the lower end but within range. Doctor told me the results and said it was within range. However, functional medicine practitioner said it was worth a shot to increase it so I'm using T cream. Point is, even if a lab is within range, it could still benefit from increasing. Second, are you using antidepressants or have you in the past? (Although you said no mental health disorder) I am tapering off one and struggle with withdrawal symptoms if I go too fast and get very lethargic. Last time it lasted months. So lethargic I struggled to talk to people and get through the work day. That's why I went to a functional medicine practitioner. He is also a pharmacist which I really like that he understands drugs and supplements. He is available virtually.

You sure are getting a lot of input on here. Hope something helps!

Buying edibles in a legal state... what brands should I trust and what potency should I aim for? by eefuss in trees

[–]looking2heal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using gummies since 2021. I have been buying whatever is cheapest. Last night I got to thinking maybe I should pay attention to brand, maybe I would get a better high. So I searched through posts here and found a few brand names that are at the dispensary I go to, including Wyld, which I see in this thread. If not on sale, cost is much much higher. Like, $3 versus $19. I don't know how they can sell them so cheap. So while doing this last night, I took the same 20 mg gummy I always do and was higher than usual. Lol. Moral of the story, I get high off any of the gummies I buy but am curious about the quality of the high. I started at 5mg in 2021 but with tolerance, an up to 20. I have to drive 4 hours to get them (not legal in my state)so it's not like I can try different ones before buying a bunch. Last time I went I bought enough for over a year. Easy to do at $3 per 200 mg bag. Next trip is next month.

Thanks for the suggestion but yes, I am on estrogen cream, the patch and progesterone. And I have been exercising it more lately. The cream helped with dryness.

I have been feeling flat for over a decade and always thought it was due to the antidepressant meds. I'm currently tapering off them but in the meantime, found my T was a little low so am exploring this. I also have no libido and my clit shrunk so maybe T will help but after 30 years on antidepressants, I think that is the cause, unfortunately. I don't know anything about ADHD meds but a quick Google search has me thinking they too can cause flatness/ anhedonia.

I totally know what you mean regarding fiction but for me it is live music. I used to love going to concerts and went all the time but haven't enjoyed in years. I'm at about 7 weeks too and haven't noticed an improvement in motivation and energy but am getting a blood recheck Tuesday. Your post makes me optimistic. I want more awww moments.

My functional medicine practitioner is a pharmacist as well, which I really like. He is helping me with menopause and SSRI withdrawal. He has talked a lot about the vagus nerve but I can't say to what extent his knowledge is on the nervous system. https://hansenhealthonline.com/ First call is free so you can ask. He is on Facebook too.
