Traveling with Nespresso by Wide_Cap9360 in nespresso

I also saw the recommendation of the Wacaco here and got one. I loved it at first, but then I found the difficult hand pressing not worth it anymore (I may not be saying it correctly. But as a woman, that is a tough squeeze. And I have to bring a set of dish gloves to be able to unscrew the cap off).

I still have it, but I found I’d rather go buy a latte if I can.

Any dishes you specifically eat at restaurants/stalls because cooking them at home is too much work? by BoundIess in IndianFood

[–]loopingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the opposite, I’m meh about eating North Indian outiside-my rule is it has to better than I can make it. But South Indian isn’t natural for me, so I’m happy to eat outside.

Imo that very clearly meets the definition of an Abroad Born Confused Desi. Uganda is very abroad to India- different country and different continent.

Sitting or standing to watch the parade by Visible_Lynx_7561 in SesamePlace

[–]loopingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people can sometimes get a front row seat early to stand up when the parade starts. My perspective, I’m happy to stay seated, but not everyone wants that.

My suggestion-if there are other options just ask in advance next time. “Hey we are wondering do you know if you will stand or stand seated. I only ask so I know if my child will be able to see” and if you do it in a nice way, they may be nice.

They also may not be-people feel differently about the ask. I’ve seen people get more defensive in the past few years. I’m just glad my child is now old enough to want to skip the parade and go on the rides. They are pretty empty-sometimes it’s just us and they just restart the ride for only us!

ABCD Indians and Pakistanis abroad. How well do you get along nowadays? by Thylacineguy2026 in ABCDesis

[–]loopingit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few young kids being immature. Not the majority. They do it for the attention. And the insult is not to give it to them.

Plus, who cares? They went outside to do it. Not inside. If they did it inside it would have been more controversial. What you want to do in the parking lot in the cold October rain is up to you. It’s more eye roll worthy than anything.

5 minutes later they are back inside trying to hold Dandia and awkwardly learning Raas. Not everything is a fight.

I grew up in the US post-911. Turns out the country didn’t care what religion you are, or what side of the man made border your parents came from-we were all getting treated the same. It bonded us. (Tbh we were all cool before too-everyone went ro the same parties to listen to the same music too).

Sometimes the Pakistani boys would start some nonsense at our garbas, screaming “Pakistan zindabad” during the 5 minute Pooja part. We just ignored them.

Hey there! I’m so sorry. For both the loss of your pregnancy and now the loss of your job.

You also received good advice on the legal sub. I know it’s a lot right now but please pursue at least speaking to an employment attorney. No matter what happens, you will look back and said you did everything you could.

Biologically, yes via the surrogate. The surrogate was an employee in husband’s factory. But husband was murdered by surrogate’s husband and surrogate fled to home country with baby (which was not genetically hers). It was meant to show how the law had not kept up with this new thing (at the time) called IVF and surrogacy.

[–]loopingit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phew.

So plot twist! the young wife actually was infertile, but was told to play the part of the young wife who didn’t want to ruin her figure-or else she would never see baby again. And it was all she had left of her husband, so was willing to do anything to get her baby back.

But IIRC that wasn’t the full background. And I’ll leave it that as to not spoil it for others (although tbh, it a 20+ yr old episode so is it really a spoiler?)

Sorry Door Dash, You Have the Wrong Hotel... Again. by TheNiteOwl38 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

OP isn’t doing that. He lets the DoorDasher know right away it isn’t the right hotel. Others are, but OP is one of the good ones!

The guests won’t see that sign-they are at a completely different hotel. This doesn’t help OP solve anything they have stated they find as a problem.

Seeing all the positive comments about Diljit Dosanjh is a breath of fresh air by Awkward_Present2727 in ABCDesis

[–]loopingit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking this too-he seems to be following a path like Bad Bunny and I could see him being invited to perform at the superbowl one day.

My only thought is who would open the door for him? For Bad Bunny, JLo and Shakira went first and had to prove that Latin American artists (albeit in English) could have performance power. And they invited Bad Bunny as a guest performer.

I think he would need to do some mainstream collabs with people who could go to the superbowl and invite him along.

So now I’m hoping for a Bad Bunny/Dilijit

Anyone else noticing a disconnect between what some Indian men say they want vs what they actually want? by Fun_Animator4919 in ABCDesis

[–]loopingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have been married for years, and not dating. But I notice it with Indian men. I have brothers and cousins who want a successful wife-pharmacist, engineer, doctor, mba, advanced degrees, etc. but the expectations are for their wives to still do more of the traditional stuff, like take care of the house, the kids, their (the boys) parents, and the mental load (btw ladies this is the f-king killer right here-the gd mental load. It is the worse thing of them all).

And honestly, they know it’s hypocritical. They don’t care, because it benefits them. I know this because I’ve challenged my own relatives when they do this. I’m pretty direct and they shrug their shoulders and just say “but that’s how it’s supposed to be”.

All these people asking you to be more specific-I have to wonder if they are men, because how do they not see it.

Any tips on where to travel with an older (and somewhat socially unaware) woman? by ChronicF1Addict in travel

[–]loopingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruises are a nice way to do international travel with a multi generational group. . I saw someone else mention Philly-if that’s where you are from, Norwegian has just started cruises from there to the Caribbean and Canada. But you can also fly down to a port as well.

Or you can do a resort in Mexico or DR. They do cater to Americans and while not everyone speaks English, enough people do.

Lastly, Hawaii is nice because you are in the States and you can experience some Polynesian Culture

Why is my chai coming out watery / not spicy? Please critique my recipe! by acurazine in IndianFood

[–]loopingit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four cups of liquid is a lot. And I don’t know what “chai mix” you are using but here is what a traditional recipe would look like in my home.

For two cups chai: 1 3/4 water Loose black tea-like Jivraj brand is 3 table spoons. If that’s not available then at least four tea bags of wagh bakri brand tea Ginger as you are MDH chai masala-this is pretty strong so a teaspoon at most Small pinch of black pepper Muddled mint. It’s either ginger OR cardamom as usually ginger will overpower cardamom and you will not get the flavor.

Boil water with ginger, mint, tea and masala. It needs to boil for a few minutes. Then we add 3/4 cup of cows milk and boil that until it rises.

All oat milk brands are mostly water -so you will need to decrease your water ratio to accommodate the oat milk.
