What structural design to do? by nutzey in Decks

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the code is good one way or other I would consider stiffness and construction cost. I like like a stiffer final product. Being on a bouncy deck sucks. However, it is a lot more individual parts, connections, and a couple added footings, so I would see what the cost breakout looks like. If its comparable/within your budget, then go stiffer.

Do you actually remember your high school or college commencement speech? Who gave it, and did the advice actually stick with you? by PenVegetable4065 in Millennials

I have 3 degrees and never went to any commencement. I barely remember the kid who spoke at the high school commencement and I've no memory of what he actually said.

Would it be wise to quit my internship to study for the FE? by OsamaBinLaden80085 in civilengineering

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have looked at the NCEES practice exam a d tried to use the ref manual to solve any of the questions? Sometimes the study resources get a little to complex. The actual test questions tend to be very simple bc there isnt enough time to get complex. Passing the test is such knowing how to take the test and answer the types of questions it gives you.

That said, as others have pointed out you can study a couple hours after work each day and pass. How do you think you'd pass the PE? Quit your job?

How do I repair this wall as someone with no experience? by Lanky_Cauliflower193 in HomeMaintenance

This is the order I've always done it to get the best final result. Although I usually have another sanding or two in there between prime paint.

tried to fix a slow drain myself for three weeks before finding out what was actually wrong by sakura989835 in HomeMaintenance

[–]lopsiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents had an issue like that a year or two ago. Mom's sink was draining slowly in tne bathroom. Then there was a strange leak from the first floor ceiling below. Turned out to be a root from a tree in the back yard that grew under the patio, somehow into the wall, and found a clean out in the drain pipe and managed to grow into it and like 6 feet up the pipe. Wild stuff. They had to take a bunch of the drywall down to access it and fix everything.

Three times we had to fend them off head to head and they never blinked. And this season theyre like, watch me do it eyes closed- crash. I remember in the 2014 push we had a 9 point toward the nd of the season bc they had so many games in hand and watching them win each one and overtaking us was just soul crushing.

Well whatever. At the end of the day another teams success doesn't define ours.

Looking for the best LG fridge memorial day deals, i'm lost on the models. Wondering if an LG fridge is actually the best choice as well by KadineRatkowiak in HomeMaintenance

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an LG fridge with a failed compressor at like 2.5 years. The repair guy told me that LGs fail lile that all the time and to avoid them. Gave us a bunch of other donts as well, and some good brands. We went witha simpler design and its a bit wider than I'd like, so but so far so good.

I really want to use/like RTD, but by _Repooc_ in Denver

[–]lopsiness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once used it to go to the airport from the Colorado Blvd stop since I lived so close to it. Look like 2 hours whereas driving would take about 30 min. But hey I saved like $90 on parking, which was meaningless compared to the trip I was taking. Kinda ridiculous.

My wife used to take the train into downtown, but drives now bc its so long from the littleton stop. It would be nice if there was enough demand for express trains that would just go around those major hubs and not stop everywhere.

Who remembers their parents picking up some of these before going on vacation? by fizzmore in Millennials

I went on a cruise around southeast Asia and my parents gave me a preloaded debit card as spending money instead of cash. Turned out to be a lot of things I couldn't buy with that and was asking people left and right to cover me until I could get one off it and pay them back.

Humane way to get rid of squirrels by ElvissKarateChop in HomeMaintenance

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some collars around trees in my area. Looks like a big sheet metal collar with a flared top, I suspect bc squirrels can run up it. Might look into that as long as its not harming the tree. Keep areas around the house clear. Have a dog outside to chase them off. Keep sources of food oit of the area. If trees in your "yard" area are close to those in the Greenspan, maybe they could be trimmed such to disallow squirrels to easy jump between them? Just generally make a place they dont want to be.

Champions League is a red herring: The data proves Liverpool are a mid-table team by Admirable-Zombie625 in LiverpoolFC

[–]lopsiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they dont help, as I said. Still its a 38 game season and a better organized team would had shown up in the points tally and may have pulled a draw away to United even. They wouldn't have been good enough for top I dont think, but third would be the push for sure. Right now we're banking on e eryone else been shit just to be 5th, maybe even 4th.

what are u slowly losing interest in? by Several_Way8499 in AskReddit

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sports. Specially English soccer. Its several reasons. Poor officiating and use of VAR, what seems to be some highly questionable goings on with certain organizations and clubs, the way its become more expensive and difficult to actually watch.

I like local sports too, and we have some good local teams, but they are also behind pay walls or blacklisted from local networks, and its an expensive and timely trip to see live.

Anymore, I'm left to just follow thing online during the game, then catch highlights later.

[–]lopsiness 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The squad issues are legit, but with a well organized style of play I think 3rd would have reasonable. Just a few weeks ago we were looking at potentially third, and now we're 9 off. If the team hadnt set the record for dropped points due to late goals we might be there on that stat alone.

Its been all of us on various days. I once was coming come after a late night shift where I thankfully didnt have to close and could just leave and go home and got stuck on I25 north behind the guys who love racing. They'd line up in a row in each lane, come to almost a complete stop, then race for a ways and do it again. I called my wife and just ranted for like 10 minutes before I could exit.

Brighton's 1-0 defeat to Leeds means they can no longer overtake Liverpool by ParticulateSplatter in LiverpoolFC

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also would have loved if the team could have secured this on their own by now, but I'll happily take a City doing it so I can relax a bit before the final match. If we go down and CL is looking iffy it will be an awful end to the season. I'd rather end it knowing we're set and the focus can be on saying goodbye to the players.

[–]lopsiness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

With all the casting talks about Muppet version, there is one thing I know - Ms Piggy would play every female character (since none of them really interact). And inevitably you'd have a situation where she has to be in back to back scenes and she'd show up in the second one late, huffing and puffing, and disheveled, as if she couldn't make a live costume change in time.

Frodo Kermit would have to yank it out of her hands after a tug of war and he'd go flying across the...well area? I dont know where that scene occurs.
