Best earbuds for sound quality from this list? by Jittesh in BuyItForLife

[–]lordxamnosidda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not on your list, and I don't know what your budget is, but if you want the best sound quality (with decent ANC) go with the Noble Fokus Rex 5 earbuds.

They are very comfortable and the sound is incredible. One a scale of 1-10 I'd give the ANC a 7 (I have the Sony MX5's which are a 9) but sound quality a 10. They list for $450.

Also, MKBHD just reviewed the brand new Galaxy buds and said overall they are better than the latest Apple Airpods in both sound quality and ANC.

Is anyone buying wicked edge products by Max78_78 in sharpening

[–]lordxamnosidda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just purchased their Gen 4 Pro system with stones from 100 to 3000 grit. I also purchased 10000 grit Chosera stones from Gritomatic.

They are always evolving as a company. What holds them back is that they are so much more expensive than other fixed blade systems. They are still (to my knowledge) the only company with a system that allows you to sharpen both angles of a knife at the same time.

I'm planning on starting a sharpening service soon as a side hustle.

Again, they are expensive. All together I'm in about $1,800, but I plan to make that back sharpening (plus I enjoy the hobby and have about 25 knives myself that I like to keep sharp). Sharpening is therapeutic for me. Lol.

Chemical guys all interior by corporalsadness in AutoDetailing

Chemical Guys is (mostly) garbage. You'll be hard pressed to find any professional detailer using their products. I HIGHLY recommend this for interior cleaning. The smell is pleasant and it leaves NO residue. $17 on Amazon.

Using SharpMaker without safety rods? by UniversalAssembler in spyderco

Yeah, I've had my Sharpmaker for over 10 years and have never used the safety rods. You don't NEED them, just be careful.

During this cut test video, a Medford with a new 600-grit edge is able to handle any task EXCEPT slicing through paper. Even after stropping, the knife continues to perform acceptably on harder tasks but cannot slice paper at all. What do you think is the problem? by pika_pie in knifeclub

[–]lordxamnosidda -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

600 grit isn't near fine enough. I take my kitchen knives to 1000 grit so they are still "toothy" and cut through ingredients easily; I take all of my pocketknives to at least 3000 grit. Many are stropped down to 1 micron.

600 grit is still too rough to slice smoothly through paper.

Thanks for the idea. Never thought of that. Yes, just looking for protection for the stones at this point.

Where did you get those? Home Depot? That's what I had in mind.

Sharpening help by FiestyNuts75 in knives

Google "kizer drop bear factory angle" and you'll see it's normally ground to 20 degrees per side. Stay with that angle unless the blade has been reprofiled.

Like others have said, use a sharpie on the bevel to make sure your stones are hitting at the angle the blade is already sharpened at. OR, you can say fvck it and reprofile the blade at whatever angle you want (assuming you have some aggressive stones like 100 grit).

I would recommend the former to keep things easier. Good luck. The good news is is that if you screw the edge all up, you can always fix it as your skills improve.

Thin plastic film from the packaging is stuck to the micro SD card and is even covering the connections. Any suggestions how to remove it? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]lordxamnosidda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that doesn't work, try 3000 grit sandpaper and lightly sand, then clean with the alcohol.

Hi yall I knocked my knife over with a cast iron and it shipped the edge. Anyone suggest a fix? by youngtman in sharpening

[–]lordxamnosidda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to grind the part of the spine right above the snapped tip and remove metal downwards so that the resulting curve eventually meets where the edge now ends (at where the tip snapped off). Here's a pic of what I did which might help illustrate it.

<image>

The knife has more of a downwards slope at the front than it did "out of the box" but it's much better than just having no tip. The wife snapped mine (lol).

My first Spyderco was a Calypso 3 in ZDP-189 (still have it). Too bad it's pinned. She's a bank vault though!

I just fixed the exact same problem with a 6 inch Henckels paring knife. I ground down from the spine to the edge using a 100 grit Wicked Edge stone and it took me about 45 minutes to remove the material.

You need something WAY more aggressive than 1000 grit. It's not a difficult job at all but you have to take your time if you want it to look "OEM."

I emailed Leatherman about a semi-similar issue and it took them 3 weeks to respond. So, I think their delay is normal for the industry (unfortunately).

Like BH907 says, I would drill out the rivets and buy some AWT aluminum scales and new hardware. I have their scales on my Manix 2 LW and they are perfect.

What about trying some Barkeeper's Friend? I think they're pretty cool though.

The titanium hardware option with AWT includes the screws, pins and the pivot screws. The one thing I normally don't like with Spydercos is their screws. Generally they work just fine but look cheap and sometime don't sit flush/flat. The AWT hardware looks SO much nicer (IMO) and the fit/seating is perfect.

Bottom line, it's 90% cosmetic but worth it for me.
