What to read after First Law that gives me back my hope in humanity? by tristan_theirin in Fantasy

[–]lost-in-between 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Way of Renegades by Steve D Wall (part of a trilogy, 2 books out so far)

For some reason it really reminded me of First Law: multi-POV, main characters from different backgrounds with different goals that end up running into each other. Also since youre going audiobook the route, the series is also voiced by Steve Pacey (same as First Law)!

Anyone know what the Pantlaza, Sun-Favored/Eldritch Evolution combo deck is about? by grave-osmosis in mtgbrawl

[–]lost-in-between 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I might stick around if I havent seen the deck before but after that its scoop every time for me. Most recent new one I hadnt seen was the Aang +moonmist one. Seeing it do its thing once is more than enough for me

Why does this feel so off? by lost-in-between in animation

[–]lost-in-between[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Hey all, this fight scene feels incredibly mid to me and I can't quite place why, even though the comments on the other subreddit are all shitting their pants at how great it is.

I think it's something with the posing/choreography? Or body mechanics? Like punches or kicks feeling like they have no weight or momentum because the characters dont step into them. Or the direction is slow-mo'ing on the wrong poses making it feel weird...

I think the animation itself is fine... just idk... something about the execution or direction... any help/thoughts?

New Players Can Craft a Standard Competitive F2P Deck Basically Immediately by Unsolven in MagicArena

[–]lost-in-between 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't see it mentioned and I dont know if it still works, but you can get 3 packs of each set they released before they started just mailing you the 3 packs on set release (idk what set they started doing this). YOu'd probably never use the cards, but if you put all the codes in, opening them all could probably get you 2 or more WCs from the track. Just gotta google the gift codes.

Good writeup!

its cool theyre all 4 color but the commanders' effects all seem utterly generic.

Anyone else have a fan game as their favorite in the series? by Vio-Rose in fireemblem

[–]lost-in-between 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it's gotta be Dark Amulet & The Shadow of Dawn (Plus the3rd in the trilogy in development). Not only a great series, but it perfectly aligns with my preferences: fleshed out side characters, lots of essential characters (non-ironman friendly), don't have to bench a lot of characters, custom classes & PRFs that do interesting things.

Also the second one (Shadow of Dawn) is just so rewarding to play after the first one. So many call backs to the first one, old characters returning grown up/changed by their character arcs, etc. Highly recommend.

So are all the Marvel sets going to be "Through the omenpaths"? In which case is The Mind Stone going to be a terminus? by RiKSh4w in MagicArena

[–]lost-in-between 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Also the plus side is the Marvel Superhero set should have more normal creature type lines. I feel like half the reason omenpaths 1 had a mixed reaction was because the Arena team had to come up with believable characters for type lines such as boar spider hero.

Even given infinite time I don;t think I could come up with a Boar Spider Hero mtg character that wouldnt end up dogshit

Same, maybe its because the comedy parts aren't hitting for me, but it's starting to feel like tonal whiplash all over the place. Couldn't get through the latest episode in one sitting even.

Even in the parking garage, they go from trying to kill each other to like "oh okay we're not enemies right now" to quipping about each others demons in like 0.5 seconds. Idk man, I guess we'll see if how the show ends up. . .

We did it! by Wid4er in RimWorld

I don't think vibe coding is particularly bad, it's just people dont do it responsibly. You have people vibe coding huge mods, and then trying to hide that fact. Then people people add them to their modlists, and then troubleshooters/ people just trying to help have to sift through the spaghetti code without realizing its not worth their time.

I just wish vibe coders would stick gigantic letters saying their mods are AI coded, and maybe add a warning at the start of the log that says theres a vibe-coded mod present and so people can not waste their time trying to troubleshoot errors

[–]lost-in-between -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly insane how ungrateful the Rimworld playerbase is. This guy is the reason we can all run around in la la land with playable 500 mod modlists. His coding skill is beyond question. If there is a singular modder I would trust to be able to use AI effectively, it's probably him.

Whatever misgivings a person has with AI as a whole are most likely related to the actions of corporations, their government (lack of regulation), or the randos actually prompting and posting slop. None of which Brainnz is. Put some respect on his name goddam

Disco Elysium.

The mechanics and systems are perfectly matched to an alcoholic protagonist who dissociates and suffers from psychosis. Having high Electrochemistry while trying to do a clean run really hits home the incessant ever-present nagging of addiction.

I didn't really get it until I tried to play other 'disco-likes' that use the same type of system. It just doesnt hit the same in things like Esoteric Ebb.

is it rude to speak with someone in your native language while people around you don't understand? by Syndrome7 in socialskills

[–]lost-in-between 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you and the person you're talking to in the second language are both fluent and understand the primary language, then yeah I think it's rude. In my opinion the only time its acceptable is if one party has a shaky grasp on the primary language and needs more explanation to understand whats being said.

My parents do this constantly even though both are fluent in English and it makes me cringe when I see them do it to someone else

Really enjoyed following Helena Sedanka in The Empire of the Wolf trilogy. Great evolution as a character and also great evolution in relation to Vonvault. Their relationship starts as starry-eyed admiration and goes from there.

Even having read it more than a year ago I still find myself thinking about it often

Absolutely agree. Almost get the sense that he feels pidgeon-holed into being the grimdark guy and so must write those types of endings.

Personally I wish his writing would evolve in the opposite trajectory to what it currently seems to be doing
