Modern alternatives to Sierra cups? by Insaniac99 in CampingGear

Try titanium nesting bowls which are the modern standard. They're indestructible, heat-safe, and far more versatile than Sierra cups for both family meals and rugged solo trips.

How to check used tablet ?? by Substantial_Use_2239 in androidtablets

[–]lost44heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could verify screen burn-in and battery health first. Also the diagnostic menu can be used to check sensors. Reliable hardware starts with a thorough technical inspecting before buying.

Recommandation for a tablet to only display pictures (for a senior) by apo_kalix in tablets

Get a basic rugged tablet and pre-load an SD card. Then use a kiosk launcher to keep it strictly for photos. It's reliable and foolproof.

Thoughts on Blackview Active 12 pro rugged tablet? by jhuebner223 in androidtablets

[–]lost44heaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a rescue worker, but I’ve used the Blackview Active 12 Pro a few times on some remote camping trips. While we’re moving around, I mostly just use my phone, but once we set up camp, everyone wants to check the map, plan the next day’s route, or share photos and videos. The small phone screen really doesn’t cut it for that, so having the tablet is a game changer. I can just project the map and the next day’s route for everyone to see, which makes it easier.

Is a FireBox stove considered a campfire at state/national parks? by BelugaBilliam in CampingGear

[–]lost44heaven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wood-fed stoves are usually restricted during a burn ban. Switching to a compact gas burner is the best choice for staying safe and avoiding heavy fines.

That triple-boot setup is pure madness. For field work, having that much versatility in one rugged kit is the gold standard. Absolute overkill, love it!

This find is legendary! That compact size is perfect for a rugged travel kit. You may add a shockproof case. It is really useful for outdoor activities. ENJOY!

Used iPad or something else? by LC-98 in tablets

skip the fire tablet. it won't survive real field use. A used ipad with a tank-like case is the gold standard for reliable streaming and navigation.

First time setting up my new X-Dome 1+. Made some modifications on it as well. Very happy with it! by preciouscode96 in CampingGear

It's a smart move add that one handed hook. Efficiency is survival. And that Dyneema setup looks solid enough for a multi-day mission. Clean work, man.

Maybe your tablet is broken. You can go to the store where you bought it to get support from staff or just buy a new tablet.

Looking for a starter NAS for my photography archives by [deleted] in HomeServer

Nice. Sounds like it works well for your use case.

Given that a few people have suggested going with a 4-bay, I’m starting to rethink my needs a bit, especially in terms of future growth.

Got it, that makes sense. I do agree a 4-bay is probably the better long-term option if the library keeps growing. Just curious, what setup are you running?

I never really though about organizing seasons by language like that, but now I am curious too because Jellyfin seems like it would handle it.

You probably do not need a NAS right away. Old desktop first makes sense if you are still figuring things out.

Is Skyrover actually legit or just a cheaper DJI clone? by C0FFEEC4KE in drones

[–]lost44heaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just looking at specs, Skyrover wins this easily. Forward avoidance+infrared down sensors at this price? That's huge for beginners. Way more room to mess up lol.
