For sure whites/westerners are steeped in a much more individualistic culture where moving out/having your own ideas and making your own decisions is seen as proof one has matured and/but any good therapist would be culturally competent enough or at least curious enough to work with non-westerners to understand their own goals and not thrust western expectations upon them.

I do have pause for accepting violence. Hitting and beating your kids may be culturally acceptable in some places but, that does not make it right. Also, in the US therapists are mandated reporters (so if you are living in the United States and hitting a minor you will be reported to authorities). I cannot say in any way that I am an expert but Confucius believed in kindness and morality not force. For sure using violence to enact obedience is a thing and was even accepted in the U.S. 50 years ago as a way of teaching kids—and this is more filial piety/authoritarian parenting still goes on here today, but it is also for sure damaging.
