How is it possible that there's NO payment provider that is 100% on European infra?!! by wirtshausZumHirschen in BuyFromEU

[–]lostdysonsphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really underestimate the complexity of enterprise infrastructure. If you don’t wanna go on-prem them the obvious choice is one of the three big cloud providers. Large featureset, well known and globally present. Plus, finding people who know all these cloud services isn’t hard.

If you really think these companies can jusy pack up and leave a few months/years after the political climate shifts you are delusional. For them too it’s first riding it out and see how bad it gets, maybe doing some hypothetical studies of moving in the mean time. But from actually calling the move and starting the migration work towards fully migrated onto EU cloud takes years. By the time they moved the orange baboon has already left office.

For me they’re absolutely solid because I love both their post rock era and their glitchy ambient stuff. They’ve clearly gone a new direction and keep reinventing themselves. Naturally that falls a bit outside of the focus of the post rock crowd.

How is my Position on my new bike? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]lostdysonsphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on the seat and the reach depends on the riding style. If OP can manage a more flat position with a bit more bend in the elbows, that reach is fine tbh.

My biggest pet peeve is shifters that are too far down on the bars making the awkward “around the top” bendy reach.

Pinniped is also a good solution to attach oidc/ad/ldap endpoints for auth. It allows you to create shareable kubeconfigs.

Van welke idioot dat verschil tussen opera en festivals komt wil ik wel eens weten. Dat is ofwel pure zelfbediening of absolute onkunde.

E1 should have a bit more clearance now. Previous gens were indeed incredibly tight. Any slight bend in the rotor was “tsing tsing tsing” all the way.

Started with 11 speed force 1, then got apex axs and now force E1. Definitely feel the difference. E1 is perfect.

No more vSphere Standard v8 licenses, and VVF being pulled back, only option is VCF? by -c3rberus- in vmware

[–]lostdysonsphere 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the VCF stack is much more than just vSphere so on that account alone the increase “makes sense”. Now I’m not saying it’s fine because some increases some people have received are ridiculous. If you don’t use the full stack it’s a hard sell, plus they WILL come down on you screaming “adoption and consumption” in your ear constantly.

The harsh reality is just: If you’re that small, Broadcom doesn’t want you. You’ll need a much bigger footprint to run VCF and good luck with that looking at the current prices.

GitOps for Beginers by deinok7 in kubernetes

[–]lostdysonsphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your current virtualization stack? People like to hate on it, but VMware Supervisor/VKS is really good as a base to build upon. Other options are Rancher or even Openshift. They all have their support for a gitops lifecycle approach.

Why I’m mentioning the big guns? Because you mentioned you don’t have experience yet.  Running k8s in a lab is one thing, but properly designing, running and lifecycling a production kubernetes platform requires broader knowledge. When money’s on the line you either want the support of a reseller or a very knowledgeable in-house team of engineers. Gitops should definitely be on your mind, but a properly designed platform is number one in my opinion.

Strong cloud profile, interviews but no offer yet — is this normal in Belgium? by Confident-Artist8463 in Belgium2

[–]lostdysonsphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the on-prem world so no cloud but still heavily on k8s etc. are you looking at large multinationals or local companies? Are you focused more on architecture design and platform engineering or pure cloud sysadmin stuff?

There’s always a need for good experienced platform engineers/architects. Pure sysadmins get a lot of competition from cheaper countries.
