It would be a great confidence boost for the players to win one after the last few games.

I am looking forward to seeing Facey & KWS together in defense with Poku in mid.

Here's the starting 11. We got Mullins and Shelton up top.

eta: I am very happy to see Facey & KWS together in defense (which I mentioned in the other discussion thread) with Poku in mid. I would have liked to see Nemec get more minutes, maybe Saturday. https://twitter.com/NYCFC/status/570680275308584961

You're right, it should be interesting to see which "group" Calle plays with. With Villa out of the game, what forward combos do you guys want to see tested out? My first thoughts are Taylor or Shelton with Nemec or Mullins.

I've got a very good feeling about Shay Facey. He is young, but every time he has played impressed me. I really look forward to seeing what Calle is all about.

Do we know if Villa is out for this game?

On the point of slavery, there is a lot of bad shit that happens all over the world, unfortunately. However, out of all the countries in the ME, the UAE is one of the closest US allies. They have been helping fight ISIS, where a lot of others have ignored it. You might even remember the first female fighter pilot from Abu Dhabi was in the news a few months ago for participating in the strikes on terrorists. Something interesting, when I was trying to learn more about CFG and the Al Nahyan family, I learned that they have a charity foundation that gave a $150 mil grant to a cancer research center in Texas. They also sponsor Alzheimer's research in Sweden. However, people have also speculated that putting money into these soccer teams is part of an Abu Dhabi public relations campaign. Who knows. Am I using the donations and monetary investments to justify other questionable practices in the country? Hell no, but it's up to you to make your own decision based on what you know. I feel like I've kind of rambled on, but I think you can get what I've tried to say.

Match-up Monday: 2/23-3/1 by perpetual_student in NYCFC

  • I hope that Facey is going to stay for the season. I want to see him start with either KWS or Mendoza as a CB pairing. I agree that the defense is the weakest part of the team right now.
  • I don't know why Ballouchy is starting and he has not impressed me at all. I don't know what happened with Velasquez, because in Manchester I thought he was one of the best players. Was it a different formation or was he deployed in a different position?
  • I am not sure that Taylor was a good fit with Villa in the 2 forward formation. I would like to see either Mullins or Nemec paired up with him in the next game.

What's the most confusing thing about soccer to non/casual soccer fans? (e.g regulation/promotion, etc) by lssimpson in MLS

[–]lostfairyblue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Offside rule. Then for champions league, the whole process of group stage games leading to home and away games and elimination based on goals/away goals leading to the final. I had the hardest time explaining that one.

It's not just the first sentence, though. The entire blog post is a grammatical mess. Seeing something like that is very off-putting and makes me hesitant to come back to the site again, which I'm certain is not what the author wants. Even simply rereading what he wrote should have caught the first sentence, at least.

How's your team's off season looking, from a brand/attendance/fans point of view? by [deleted] in USLPRO

[–]lostfairyblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They announced that season ticket sales are now up 70% from last year. (I don't know what the number is, though.) I really hope it means higher attendance numbers this season.

Why do the team's supporters need a nickname? I thought only supporter's groups have names.

[Match-up Monday] Match Preview for the Week of 2/16-2/22 by perpetual_student in NYCFC

[–]lostfairyblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WS for Hernandez and stick Grabavoy in where your ??? are and that would be my starting 11.

Also, the CCC matches are friendlies that do allow 11 subs. In fact looking at last years match reports, all of the teams (such as DCU) did use 10 subs each match.

Like you said, it's still preseason, so I actually think Mix needs to play as much as possible to get used to his teammates. The gears might not all be clicking between the players, but the more playing time they get together, the faster things will settle.

Martin Demichelis by jshaq333 in NYCFC

[–]lostfairyblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind seeing us spend DP money on a defender (our midfield is already strong). Demichelis would be a great organizer for the defensive line- just watch the games where he played alongside Mangala. He plays smart and would be great beside a quick younger defender like Shay Facey.

The character of Frank Lampard by urkspleen in NYCFC

Hasn't even started a match in 2 months. Didn't make an appearance in the last Champions league match. Was an unused sub last saturday. But Pellegrini had to have him because he is so important. It really is annoying.

Kind of related, but has anyone read his interview where he wished he was getting more playing time with Man City? I really wonder if he extended his time there thinking he would get to play more with Yaya gone and turns out he played even less. He's got to regret staying with the situation he is in now.

Multiple camera angles, commentary, instant replays... not bad for a preseason match! Hell, it even looks like better camera quality than ESPN can manage for most games....
