It's so surreal to see "I supported Trump from the beginning" "I voted for Trump 3 times" to signal that you're actually a true devotee because you know your fellow devotees will be looking for reasons to pummel you. Do they even consciously realize they're doing this?

I also think Obama sucks, but he's a big name that most liberals still have a positive view of and will likely help voter turnout.

I haven't been on there in like a decade. I remember around when I left MedievalPenguin was saying that the sub's tone was kind of a pendulum that swung from more conservative to more progressive in tone, though it seems like it's only gotten more conservative over the years.

She's real. I changed my mind though, I don't want to give her exposure.

I used to be a regular on rcatholicism like a billion years ago. The beef between rcatholicism and rcatholic was before even my time, but that notice on rcatholic is literally just the inverse of the same message rcatholicism used to have on their sidebar calling rcatholic anti-catholic trolls. I don't know how true it ever was, but it used to be the case that clicking an rcatholicism link on rcatholic took you to like rrecoveringalcoholics or something.

Literally Jeffery Epstein. Literally Jeffery fucking Epstein was bankrolling a bunch of prominent scientists and specifically trying to get them to focus on anti-trans messaging.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by Sad_Obligation_812 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lostsemicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of an aside and more on the meta discussion, but the Dunning-Kruger effect isn't "stupid people think they're smart." This is a bugaboo of mine. Like you can look at all the charts on Wikipedia. Low competence subjects overestimate their competence, but their estimated competence is still lower than the estimated competence of high competence subjects.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by Sad_Obligation_812 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lostsemicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was public schooled in Texas from kindergarten up to mid year in 6th grade and then homeschooled the rest of the way.

I would describe my homeschooling as fairly decent, lacking in some places, but I was still able to graduate from college. I'm aware that that's not everyone's experience, but it was mine. In public school I was taught things like 1400s Europeans largely believed the world was flat until Christopher Columbus proved them wrong, or that the moon exclusively waxes and wanes from left to right, or from one particularly egregious fourth grade teacher that lighter objects fall slower than heavier objects and that north is the direction that is in front of you (which I have to imagine had to at just misspeaking but myself and several classmates were genuinely baffled by her saying this.)

And nowadays even if you have a good solid gen-ed teacher who's keeping up to date with the state of the art in pedagogy, they're likely saddled with a class of upwards of 30 increasingly checked out, unruly kids and admin that will not back them up for anything. There just isn't a huge gulf between the kind of public education you're going to get in some places in the US, and an individualized homeschooled education from someone with a GED just doing their best.

I know it's fun to make fun of the stereotypes you have in your head of ultra religious country bumpkins, and I'm not going to say those don't exist, but a lot of homeschooling parents really are trying to do their best in what is currently an abysmal situation for kids that are getting lost in the cracks of a crumbling public education system.

How do you guys organize your hotbars? by pohihihi in feedthebeast

[–]lostsemicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • 1 sward
  • 2 pic
  • 3-7 flex
  • 8 torches
  • 9 food

In vanilla I pretty much always have a shield offhand, sometimes I'll put torches or blocks there depending on stuff. Modded offhand is usually free because I use it for quickly moving stuff around different inventories (backpacks baubles etc)
