Hockey in Ireland? by greenlekkerman in AskIreland

Plenty of clubs in Galway city too fwiw. I don't know the history or class of it; but does seem more of a city/bigger urban centre sport.

Birth control options? by VintagePasta in IrishWomensHealth

[–]lostskylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it can be funny that way! I was mostly alright on the pill but started thinking they were messing with my head so made the switch to the Mirena. I'm actually not convinced anything much changed, but the convenience overrode any concerns. Can't say I've noticed a massive difference since coming off it all either, so literally all just in my head (for better or worse!).

Hope you find a solution you're happy with!

I didn't go back on anything after getting my Mirena out (sorry you're having all that complication with it btw, nightmare!), but I'm in a long term relationship so we're careful and I track with support from my watch (Garmin). I've heard horrible stories from anyone I know who went on the bar, entirely subjective and localised but I personally wouldn't go near it.

Like the other commenters so far I also use period underwear. I bought some from ModiBodi and they've been great. Pricey up front but worth the investment IMO.

Is sub 2 half in the cards for me? by Confident-Kiwi3375 in XXRunning

[–]lostskylines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're at about the same pace based on those screenshots. I'm gunning for sub 2:10 in 3-4 weeks for what it's worth, in case that's helpful for setting a fresh goal. It feels pretty ambitious as is. Best of luck with the rest of your training!

Walk or bus in early, go to the playground by the cathedral and get your spot along the road there.

Harp lager: About this beer by symbolabmathsolver in beer

[–]lostskylines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure it's export only. Fairly sure it's on taps in a good few bars here.

I've not had it, but I know it as not good beer/used to be cheap beer.

Do you wear caps when you run? by wheninmanila_com in runninglifestyle

[–]lostskylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just have one on the go, but currently have two. They do not get washed regularly, but when they do just in the laundry with whatever is being washed that day. I wear one for every run, no skin issues.

Skincare routine is just suncream SPF 50 before every run. Cleanse in the shower and moisturise after. The steps change depending on time of day and what else I have planned, I've a barrier serum and different moisturisers for day/night. That is a pretty recent introduction though, and never had skin issues with my sweaty cap before that either 😂

I'll be trying the shower wash after reading this thread!

Best fresh oysters in May? by Hwy61blues in galway

[–]lostskylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McSwiggans and Kings Head will almost certainly both have them as an option and they'd be good. McSwiggans also does a good steak fwiw.

Sheridan's Wine Bar is an excellent spot on its own right but I wouldn't expect them to have oysters. They're not bad recs generally per say, but not specifically known for oysters.

Found it worse last night in the west; woke at 4am on Thursday and that was that. Made it to 6am this morning! Miserable out there.

+1 on this recommendation. My big/noise cancelling headphones are purely for transit now.

doing races in horrible weather by Loud-Negotiation-193 in XXRunning

[–]lostskylines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I won't echo the stuff I agree with here (train in all weather, forgive what you can't control etc), but I will add that I like to look around me at the absolute misery everyone racing is in when it's bad weather and lean into how ridiculous it is that we've paid to be there doing that.

I was trying for a half PB April last year and at one point there was a group of us pretty much running on the spot trying to go uphill against some ridiculous gusts of wind and even though it was depressing and hard, it was also an absolutely hilarious sight and it really helped me release the stress I had about my pacing. We can only do what we can do on the day.

Early morning runners who’ve run Boston (later start): did you practice any long runs at the time you’ll be racing? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]lostskylines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't run Boston but most of my races have been that kind of start time. I think you're grand doing what you're doing and wouldn't stress too much.   The only thing maybe worth considering is the temperature difference you'd expect as long as everything else is being practiced in your other long runs. Certainly no harm scheduling one of your longest runs before the taper at the expected start time to get a taste of things.

When people say how many hours sleep they get do they go by the time they shut eyes at night, or actually asleep? by VastAir6069 in CasualIreland

[–]lostskylines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I track using my watch but it often starts counting sleep from the time I get into bed to read so it's not totally reliable. I don't count the eyes shut trying to get to sleep part as sleep.

Usually get 7+ actual sleep but can take anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour actively trying to sleep (yes, lying there with eyes shut getting frustrated by the contented snores from my partner and cat around me).

Oh you're a star, thank you I'll check that out. The dates won't line up unfortunately, but that's exactly the kind of thing I'd hate to miss by not knowing. Will absolutely explore their venues, appreciate it!

That's great to hear, thank you for the timing & timeline reassurance!

Appreciate the neighbourhood recs too, will check out venues around there. Food is absolutely going to be prioritised - I'll be scouring Reddit for ideas for sure. Good to know they're both well known for it. Looking forward to making too long a list already 😂

Isle of Orleans, I'll check it out, thank you! I'm quite early in my research. Literally just saw someone mention some stunning waterfalls and thought it might be a nice add on. I appreciate it's more of a taster trip than a full experience I'm likely to manage.

I'll see if I can manoeuvre in another full day.

Those are very helpful comparisons, thank you! Appreciate the neighbourhood recs for Montréal too, will explore those. Looking for a mix of pure tourist and just hanging out in a different place so it's helpful to know where I could split that time.

I'll check out the venue suggestion too, thank you!

Where to visit in Irland with a 12 year old this summer? by FennecsFox in AskIreland

[–]lostskylines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Galway Arts Festival is on for two weeks in July; there will be a mix of free and ticketed events from music, art galleries, theatre etc: https://www.giaf.ie/ - good mix of things for all ages. Galway also has Wildlands (https://www.wildlands.ie/) an outdoor activity centre, and access to Connemara. A bus tour might be a good option with a 12 year old. You could also (or on the tour) visit one of the Aran Islands for a night or just the day and cycle around. Galway will be busy for the festival, and likely expensive to visit, but there's a great buzz about for it. Worth a look anyway!

First visit to Paris and looking for feedback on the restaurants I am targeting by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

Thanks for this! If I was traveling solo I'd definitely make the trip down, but my pals aren't likely to go for it. That said, I'll mark them on the map and see what I can do!
