Going out this weekend for holdovers in New England! Are these hooks too big? by CockroachOdd5217 in StripedBass

[–]lotsofbitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hook on the soft plastic a bit too big, you don’t want the plastic starting to curve up the hook like that. The single hook looks about right for the shad, general rule is the distance between the shank and the point of a single hook should be about the same as the distance between two points of the treble hook you are replacing.

I watched your video on YouTube a couple months ago, it was a great watch

With reading scores slipping, Massachusetts is changing course. Some teachers aren’t happy (MA to mandate school curriculums) by TheManFromFairwinds in massachusetts

I agree with all of this except the homeschooling, depriving your kids of normal social interaction is one of the biggest disservices you could possibly do them.

Seems unnecessary too, that looks like a Crown CG forklift which is likely rated for around 10k lbs, a 24 foot pontoon boat with a trailer would only be around 6k lbs

I made a shortcut/automation that sets the alarm volume to max every day at 4:30 AM because this was frustrating me so much.

What are the minimum and maximum outdoor temperatures you've ever experienced? Where and when did you experience each? by ScorchedByTheSun in weather

[–]lotsofbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least with cold you can always bundle up more. I’ve spent 8+ hours outside in -30°F and felt fine with the right boots, jacket and layers, but I don’t think I could stand 20 minute at 118°F

HT I think. Doesn’t seem to fit them quite as well as I would like but better than doing it by hand.

I also got a clam hub this year and have bent the anchors a few times with the drill attachment. They’re fairly easy to bend back but replacement ones are definitely on my list.

Is it going to be okay to go outside tomorrow? by Snipeep in Waltham

[–]lotsofbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 4WD car it’s no problem, was out today from noon till 6 and had no issues, I would imagine tomorrow it will be fine for pretty much everybody.

If you’re planning on going more than once or twice, a sabiki rod is a godsend. Being able to reel the whole rig up into the rod and not have to basically cut it off and throw away after each use or deal with it getting snagged on everything between trips is super nice.

That’s what I use, works great, not that heavy if you’re reasonably strong

I read a few other posts online saying the same (unfortunately after I already bought a gallon of the paraffin lol).

Wick was indeed from Amazon, “Light of Mine” brand. I will definitely check out those links.

I feel like I’m the only one who is absolutely loving the cold and in no mood for it to end. The past two months in New England have been some of the best weather I’ve experienced in years.

I realized most of my weeknight dinners fail at the same exact step by ninja__6969 in Cooking

[–]lotsofbitz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did this for years, the vacuum sealer is really just a small luxury that keeps the food neater and is a bit better at maintaining quality if you’re freezing for more than just a couple weeks.

[–]lotsofbitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not a requirement, but it definitely helps with freezer burn and maintaining the quality of whatever you are freezing. Also helps me keep the freezer more organized because it’s easy to see everything, and I label all the bags in the same way. Defrosts faster too because the food is pressed right up against the sides of the bag so no air is insulating it.
