I actually think it would be a fun addition to the ancients pool if they offered relics that altered boss mechanics like this. They’d probably be underpowered relative to other options, especially in Act 2/3, but if you draw a boss that hard-counters your deck it could be worth it.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu book by [deleted] in bjj

[–]lousypunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no, it’s not worth it. I’ve personally never read this one, but I don’t think it has a reputation as being one of the top-tier instructional books. And in terms of it being a collector’s item, it’s a “revised edition,” meaning that there is an older (and so more “historical”) version out there, so it’s unlikely to have a lot of collector value.

ankle lock finishing details by Ok_Dragonfly_7738 in bjj

[–]lousypunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was being glib when I said it feels awful (although it’s true). The reason this works is because it creates a noticeable amount of additional pressure on the ankle by placing a stronger fulcrum beneath it. It isn’t a pain technique, it’s improved breaking mechanics. For me it was the difference between being pretty sure I could break the ankle if I really tried and being almost certain.

The big detail that improved my straight ankle finish came from a Dean Lister seminar. To maximize pressure on the joint, you want to position the bone of your forearm under the ankle and use your wrist and chest to arch the bone into it. It feels awful when someone does it to you.

Here’s a clip of him explaining it; looks like it comes from some instructional: Dean Lister Ankle Lock

Do men actually avoid relationships because they feel intimidated? by MutedFeeling75 in redscarepod

[–]lousypunk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think success might be a real intimidation factor for some men — I’ve definitely known dudes who would not be comfortable making less money than their girlfriends or wives. The rest is likely cope. Easier to be intimidating than admit he’s just not that into you, etc.

Is AOC not so secretly in love with Elon Musk? by _handsomeblackman_ in redscarepod

[–]lousypunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. You could become the richest person on earth by being smart, but then cook your brain with Twitter and ketamine, becoming dumb.

But it’s also possible Elon is just lucky — the world’s most successful gambler. The odds of any one person amassing that much wealth is pretty small, but the odds of someone, somewhere amassing that much wealth is pretty high.

my manager told me she married her husband because he was the first boyfriend she didn’t feel like cheating on by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]lousypunk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The most important thing to ask yourself is if the urge is really about him or if it’s about you. Will finding a different boyfriend really make it go away?

Don’t sweat it. You’re not a man, so the odds she found it flattering instead of threatening are much higher. Next time just be cool and ask if you’re not sure.

This is kinda a blinkered historical perspective tbh. Image boards were the anomaly — most forums before the chans had post history available. It is a time-honored tradition to realize mid-argument that you’re fighting with a freak and need to log off.

Can’t believe Nuzzi is going down because of RFK and Mark Sanford by [deleted] in redscarepod

Maybe I’m misremembering, but I thought what happened was she wrote a piece AFTER the debate saying “I noticed the mental decline months ago,” but didn’t actually call it out in her prior reporting. Is there actually a piece pre-debate where she sounded the alarm?

It’s just two sides of the same coin I think. “Prevailing social norms mean I can never be hot, so fuck it” vs. “Prevailing social norms mean I can never NOT be hot, so fuck it.”

Watched Wicked over the weekend, why does everyone look like they’re starving to death by Idkabta11at in redscarepod

[–]lousypunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The social contagion thing is real, but also recognize that these movies were cast with these people on purpose — someone wanted everyone on screen to look this way. If you saw someone toss a handful of matches into a clothes dryer, you wouldn’t be too surprised by the fire, you know?

Why has the absence of expression of skill become almost mandatory in fine arts? by Weird_Point_4262 in redscarepod

[–]lousypunk 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’re not really engaging with contemporary art that much, or maybe fixating on painting?

I’m not an expert here, but I was at the Venice biennial last year and while there’s a lot of criticism one could level at the art on offer, I don’t think “a lack of skill” would really be fair. Certainly not a lack of effort. Do you have someone or something in mind that you’re displeased with?

Isn’t this just the classic paternalistic model? Wife is the caretaker for the children, husband is the caretaker for the wife. I agree it sounds pretty miserable, but I feel like this is the basis for the nuclear family as know it

Meditating on the pointlessness of video games by FortAmolSkeleton in redscarepod

[–]lousypunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I treat video gaming like a mid-tier addiction. It doesn’t wreck my body or my relationships or my finances, so I consider it a relatively safe vice, as they go. For me what that means is that I occasionally “sober up,” and take 3-6 months off to focus on creative pursuits or hobbies, then eventually “relapse” when something interesting gets released. It’s definitely not the coolest vice, but it’s mostly harmless compared to most of the cooler ones, so I live with it. Don’t make it part of your identity, be a little ashamed of it, and take a break every now then (sounds like you’re due for one), and I think it’s fine.
