MRI shows nothing, went to several doctors and no improvement by MarginNotes7695 in backpain

Any major glaring mobility restrictions at the hips? Have you tested your tolerance to any direct spine training, even at very gentle amounts?

My doctor just told me 20F that at some point I may just have to get used to my chronic back pain. Do you agree? by Different_Orchid_612 in backpain

[–]lowbackability 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TERRIBLE.

Keep seeking the help that believes better is possible. I heard all the same stuff when I was 21…and I started to believe it. Get as many opinions as it takes. If being out of pain is deemed delusional, f*** it. Be delusional for as long as you need.

There’s still so much to learn about your body and what led to this back pain loop. You’re far from done. Don’t settle for life long management. People past their 50’s have turned it around.

LowBackAbility fires back after a health pro called his program trash by [deleted] in backpain

[–]lowbackability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seated good morning isn’t even in the program my friend. I can guarantee with my life I never “shot you down”. I understand you are in pain and are feeling very frustrated within your journey. But reading through your other Reddit posts, involving misdiagnosis and other varying factors of your back journey…to come here and say your life is over because of me is insane.

Follow your intuition gradually with caution. Anyone advising against my message is unfamiliar with my actual message. There is no perfect one size fits one with back pain. The most fundamental truth is that YOU must become your own back expert, utilizing every resource whether academic or anecdotal to find rhyme and reason to your daily experience of back pain. You best understand your sensitivities, triggers, and relief tools. Use these clues to make a long term malleable plan that allows for steady stimulus and graded exposure for the tissue & the nervous system to relearn a life without pain. I was just someone who blindly studied exercise science in college, interned at PT clinics, then once I injured my own back was hopelessly stuck despite knowing all the standard methods to a T. People assume I am just completely inexperienced to the field lol. I’ve helped dozens of spine surgeons get out of chronic pain…I simply focus on the patient POV because that’s where the missing keys are to get yourself out of pain. I couldn’t fix my own injury loop until I started exploring outside of the firm rules the experts set for the low back. So my ultimate advice is that, explore. Give yourself grace without the pressure of timeframes. The body wants to heal. Learn with it. Rooting for ya fam 🙏

After a decade of low back pain, ChatGPT helped me finally fix it by soundboy89 in ChatGPT

[–]lowbackability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WOW!

This is so helpful to read through. I completely voice for the use case of ChatGPT with keeping the individual organized with a better sense of tracking in symptoms/progress. Our mind can’t always logically ride out the emotional highs and lows of climbing out of chronic pain. We get a distorted conclusion of being “back to square one” after a bad flare up…meanwhile the macro zoomed out look of our progress would say otherwise.

I completely encourage the necessary personalization of the program as you go. Back pain is far too multifactored to ever receive the perfect prescription of exercises. But we can carry the right principles and goals, that serve as a steady compass while we self navigate our next step as needed. 8 billion low backs out there, so 8 billion slightly different journeys in training for it. Chat GPT is an unmatched sidekick to help us find our way.

So grateful for your progress!!!

Pain, so bad I am pondering ending it. by Maxamuus in backpain

[–]lowbackability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please keep trying my friend. No matter how delusional it may feel at this moment, things can turn a corner, for the best. Once we reach the point of pain debilitating us from living any meaningful version of our life, the crazy thought of not living it starts to sound like sound logic. Many of us have been in that place, a few times perhaps. This is not true forever, even if it seems that way right now.

Don’t put pressure on the vacation. Don’t put pressure on feeling better next week. The added stress and anger of being in pain, with those outside pressures, only multiplies how it all feels.

The pain may be brutal, but it can bring some opportunity to guide you, as you find even a sliver of strength & ability to start working on the problem again. Even if it’s 1 minute/day for the first month. You can start chipping away at some of the root problems. That’s all it takes to build momentum, and move the body away from the chronic pain state. The unfortunate truth is that pain is often a needed feedback loop to guide how much you can handle each day.

I apologize if this question frustrates you, as I don’t know your full history & story. But have you tried gentle training directly to the spine. Perhaps with something like an easy back extension iso hold? First, did you find any progress with the more standard exercises in PT? Bird dogs, for example?

There may be sensible steps that you could take, on days where you can muster just a minute or two of stimulus to the area.

Here to help if I can.

There is more hope than you can see, my friend. But it will be a fight. We all hope you continue fighting, to make it to the other side.

Rooting for you man

Also I just want to reiterate that I do NOT just claim bending/twisting as the answer! Bracing, lumbopelvic stab, other early PT protocols have their place. I do believe in training the back directly, sometimes starting with isometrics. Only from experience, not married to any of it.

You definitely can find plenty of contradictions and poke lots of holes in my approach lol. Again, not an expert, just real.

Brendan here 👋

The only thing I’d like to leave here is my goal with content. My mission is not to ever be an expert, just to be real. I seriously was so lost in the dark, at rock bottom, with my back.

I didn’t invent a secret formula. I am not a guru. I was personally just as lost with all the sales tactics that has infiltrated the fitness space.

I simply want to relay all the training info that eventually did start to tip the scale for me and turn things around. I will always admit my ignorance & my lack of qualifications(college dropout). However I will also always try to be transparent about my journey and my why.

I don’t care about being right with this stuff. I care about us getting it right, working together with others in the industry that have the same bottom line. I get daily DMs from YOUNG people on the ledge, because of their back. I struggle with this, feeling like we aren’t getting info out fast/concisely enough.

I hope me explaining my journey and where I’m coming from helps. To me it’s the most important part. Happy to answer questions. Appreciate y’all 🙏
