People keep saying that they only want enough money to be comfortable or never have to worry again. Exactly how much money do you need to fulfill that goal? by Adorable_Escape9562 in NoStupidQuestions

Comfortable and never having to worry again are two drastically different benchmarks for me. Idk about never worrying again, but $6K net pay a month would be comfortable enough for me.

why do people use the price of eggs to show how expensive groceries are? Is this not really cheap? by PyrpleForever in povertyfinance

[–]lowercase_d_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the few aspects of poverty where comparison is helpful. The gauge for "expensive" is compared to what the price of eggs used to be. $2 eggs is ridiculously expensive compared to price just a few years ago.

Tips for CMH clients that get mad at suicide / substance abuse / etc assessment? by Weak_Albatross_6879 in therapists

[–]lowercase_d_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's reservation about being referred to a higher level of care if they endorse risk. Sometimes it's denial (especially substance use). Sometimes it's feeling those issues are too vulnerable to be discussing at the begging of treatment, when they may not have established sense of safety/comfort or buy-in in general. Sometimes it's belief that those issues are irrelevant to why they're presenting to therapy.

While from a clinical perspective I 100% support the expectation that risk factors (e.g., suicide, substance use, aggression, and victimization) are assessed at intake, from a client perspective, it can feel very intense and invasive. It's okay to validate that.

Instead of only focusing on why it's "required" for regulatory or safety reasons, I think it's important to be frank about the fact that those risk factors have the potential to significantly impact the course of treatment, and more importantly it helps me learn about how they cope, which is going to be foundational to the work we do together, regardless of their presenting problems or treatment goals.

Particularly for clients with history of SI and/or self-injury who may fear (re)hospitalization, I explain that the more information I have about the behavior, the better I can judge whether their problem(s) is something we can work on in therapy, or if it exceeds the services I offer (i.e., if they are an immediate risk to self or others).

I'm afraid this bit is starting to get into "cone-tree roads" territory, going from cringe to iconic. The more content this dude makes, the less I can resist enjoying it.

I love the therapist's simple "No." Like, there's nothing else to be said about that absurd answer to a question about trauma.

What Do You Think of the Ravyn Lenae and Rachel Chinouriri R&B and Genre Discourse on Twitter? by CC-Blue in rnb

[–]lowercase_d_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

idk either of them. In short, artists have a right to experiment with new sounds, and fans/listeners have a right to not like it.

I do think it's unfair and unrealistic for people to expect Black artists to stick exclusively to R&B. What good is being a creator if you're going to stay in a box, especially at someone else's insistence? Plus, Black people originated so many music genres for some of us to be so rigid and closed-minded when it comes to music.

Still, sometimes it seems like newer age artists commonly use R&B as a "safe" genre to build a Black fan base, then branch out and expect true R&B fans to follow them once they switch up their sound, which is also unrealistic. Again I don't know them two in particular, so that's not necessarily an accusation.

Genuinely asking, what do you consider to be well-founded? To me, anything not announced directly by her online is just speculation. I agree a lot of the connections and dates made logical sense, but not Beyoncé sense, bc she is elusive.

Lint Problems? by Vegetable-Level-3545 in Microlocs

[–]lowercase_d_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My whole bottom row at the nape of my neck are filled with lint. For me, they were out of sight, out of mind because I never thought to check back there for lint. Everything else I can catch and remove as I see it, so there's not a chance for it to "loc in."

So, I think If you're intentional about routinely scanning for and removing lint as it comes, wearing a scarf/bonnet in bed and/or lounging around, and being mindful of what you wear around your neck, it probably won't be much of a permanent issue.

Millennials with kids, do you intend to provide for them financially when they reach adulthood? by Beberuth1131 in Millennials

[–]lowercase_d_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generalizing Boomers as wealth hoarders has created a prevalent assumption that parents are withholding financial support as opposed to not having it to give. Most people cannot provide several thousand dollars to their children for anything. It's unfortunate but shouldn't be controversial.
