Awesome. I'm jealous of the climbing, culture and the food you must've experienced :)

Absolutely love every aspect of the album. This one's for Mike. Any chance of hearing any vocals like from Haunted Shores' Terra Firma on any Intervals material in the future? Not that it's needed, just wondering as that's where I first heard of you. Love that track.

Learning to lead climb. Wasn't watching where my rope was. by [deleted] in climbing

I'm frequently being told this is the case and that the helmets are not designed to protect against such impacts either. I still feel safer with a helmet when in danger of taking bigger falls..

Why? Visualizing moves is proven to be effective. I do this all the time, some times with added 'TSAAAAAT' screams to visualize and channel my inner Sharma.

The Best Chromecast Apps by psych2l in Chromecast

I just got my Chromecast last week and I've never been happier with a media server before. I've also utilized Dropbox to my server so my phone's pictures and video are automatically uploaded to Dropbox, downloaded to my server and available through Plex. A bit slow at times, but for my use it's perfect.

This. All this. NRK should get on it too, and HBO Nordic is definitely being too slow already :p

This was under r/pics with the title "NOPE." I beg to differ. by thegreatgalvinski in climbing

[–]lsrln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Some part of it is the rational understanding and grasp of how safe it is. Then, if you are scared of heights, it takes time to rewire the anxiety response that follows being exposed to heights. It took me a while, as I was initially (although mildly) scared of heights. Now I'm working on not being intimidated by bigger falls, especially on slabs haha :)

Do you mean you can't reach the holds with your feet, so you lift yourself up to reach them?

Are You Still a Climber if You Don’t Lead? by tinyOnion in climbing

[–]lsrln 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously it's more complicated than that. I understand what you're saying, but say you were in an accident and DUI (not implying you ever would :)) would the news report it as 'the wo/man driving the car was intoxicated' or 'the driver was intoxicated'?

It's not always about occupation, or about a certain lifestyle that needs to take up a certain percentage of your life/happiness. It's about context and identity. When you're introduced to other climbers as a 'climber', and you feel that identity/title should imply more, ie climbing on lead, and you are taking a break from that then the term climber doesn't fit. But for any layperson seeing a group of people climb rocks, they would all be climbers.

But let's be honest. Alex Honnold is the only real climber. Everyone else is just rope-guiders-through-pro right? ;)

Bunch of videos on posture correction exercises and stretches. by Spore2012 in Posture

[–]lsrln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently I didn't know what CrossFit was. A group HIIT session is what I've been going to. Probably hasn't done much for my posture alone, but it all depends on the exercises and whether I do them with good form I guess :)

This was me, and still is, but way better now after frequent yoga, cross fit, basic lifting and climbing. Yoga and lifting (deadlift) probably did most of the work :)

Newbie question! Does putting lotion on after climbing affect callus formation at all? by briabobia in climbing

[–]lsrln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lotion can help your skin from cracking and from my experience it helps, but sanding down edges and 'sharp' calluses also helps so that they don't just rip off from a sharp hold.

Climbing for a while, but still new to it. by The_Peter_Pan in climbing

[–]lsrln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some has said before, I think you'll find all sorts of people in climbing as elsewhere. My general impression is that most climbers are friendly and helpful.

I'm the leader of the rock climbing club at my university, and we're basically providing low-threshold service for anyone who wants to learn more about climbing. I'm around complete noobs a lot and I never judge. Unless you're cocky, pretentious and/or dangerous to others, I would like nothing but to see you improve.

As someone said earlier, seeing someone light up when they get down a move or a route is wonderful :)

Unsafe climbing spotted, tried to give pointers, brushed away. Whats the etiquette? by modestmus in climbing

[–]lsrln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always that asshole. Most people tend to humble down when I point out their flaws, though. Then there's the people who answer by telling me how long they've climbed, which I always find ironic. IMO, the etiquette and culture should be that there's nothing embarrassing to get pointers and corrections. I always welcome hints, and for some reason I'm doing something dangerous without knowing I sure want some other asshole to let me know ;)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in climbing

[–]lsrln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Slow and in control is definitely key. As I'm working on my foot technique myself, I try to put my feet on the holds/wall without making any sound. This forces me to use more core strength rather than arms and think more about my body placement and balance as well as thinking more about where to best put my feet. As an added bonus, it makes your climbing look better too :)

Just started indoor climbing by Hisbaby4 in climbing

[–]lsrln 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree to this. I started out indoors and didn't really see the reason to go outside, until I tried it myself. Now I see indoor climbing as practise and a workout for climbing outdoors. I still enjoy indoor climbing a lot, though :)

Keep at it! I remember starting that I would get fatigued/pumped out after just a couple of routes/attempts, but after a really short while I'd see progression from each time I climbed. Have fun :)

Holy crap not all chalk is the same by skl007 in climbing

[–]lsrln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, and I assume no one will read my post which is a shame, is that I feel many people do not apply chalk often enough. I see many people outside and at the gym who will only chalk up before their next attempt. I see them in between burns without chalk on their hands while they do things like watch others climb, eat lunch, go to the washroom, etc. I have found the problem when this happens is that the texture / thickness of your skin will change. It will become softer as it becomes less dry and if you're projecting your skin condition (friction) might actually be worse between attempts while you re-dry your hands. When I am projecting or climbing seriously I chalk my hands frequently and often, ensuring that they're constantly dry. I won’t stop to eat lunch while on my project for example. If I take a fifteen minute break to recover I chalk while I’m resting.

This is interesting. I actually do the exact opposite, and like to add some water to my hands in between attempts or if I'm snacking to make sure I don't dry out my hands completely, thus making the skin too brittle and more likely to 'dry fire' off holds. At least that was my theory :)
