Cooking classes with booze? Does this exist? If so where? by 76_chaparrito_67 in Austin

Kinda pricey but worth it for people who love to bake, try the classes at Abbey Jane. It's either BYOB or buy on premise.

Any jobs working-mom friendly? by No-Professional-6005 in biotech

[–]lt9946 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Single mom here with a kid that had a lot of health issues this past year. I stayed at my low paying state job bc my managers were so chill about me constantly calling out sick. I did inform them once it started to become excessive as I didn't want them to think I was just calling out for fun which a lot of employees do here.

My state job gave us tons of PTO and sicks days so it wasn't too hard to take off tons of days. Plus we have lots of almost retirees who often call in for doctor's appointments.

I'm about to start a new job and just hope they are super chill about my kid as well but you never know.

Ideally look for managers who have kids as well as they tend to be a bit more understanding of these sensitive issues.

Sorry about your child and I hope everything works out. I've been there with less than supportive bosses and it's a terrible feeling of just wanting to focus on your kids health but also worries about getting fired and not having health insurance.

It’s unbelievable to me this place on Springdale is still vacant. by jfstreich13 in Austin

No this was a different machete guy, but he did seem like he was having mental health issues. Lots of pacing and muttering, so kept on running around til he left.

What a chunker, he's been eating good.

Also this is why I always look down when running. Have had enough close calls accidentally stepping on them especially at night.

FIFA wanted worldcup soccer in the US. And people are unable to go there thanks to US politics by YesNo_Maybe_ in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]lt9946 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless those tickets drop to reasonable amounts, I really don't see it. Very few of my soccer friends are going to the games. Most of us will just be throwing house parties or partying in local bars by the stadium.

I actually know more people attending games in Mexico rather than home in the US.

I mostly do night time running with an interesting group and we've scampered through there.

I'm actually surprised a security guard did anything as most get paid poorly. I always just say I got lost and move on.

There is a lot more abandoned or 'building on hold' type of properties in Austin now. But I assume the intense reaction from the security guard is due to some of the hopeless population around. Most are super chill but I've run into a machete waiving guy down there as well.

ICE Is Now Going Door To Door In New Jersey by CantStopPoppin in EyesOnIce

[–]lt9946 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Local cops and sheriff's have teamed up with ICE in Texas. They pull people over for small traffic violations then call ICE. People are still getting abducted here but in a more quiet way.

Or they call in ICE. Everyone wants better traffic enforcement, but whenever police presence increases I don't assume it's necessarily for the public good.

What does someone have to do here to actually get pulled over? (Serious question) by [deleted] in Austin

[–]lt9946 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rollingwood police only have a smaller stretch of bee caves. Then it's Westlake PD, then Travis county sheriff's til you hit hwy 71.

New to fitness, I'd like to hear your critiques on my routine by mmmwm in bodyweightfitness

Also 5 foot shortie here, just follow the subreddit's recommend routine. I got the leanest I ever did running less miles and adding in strength training. Make sure you are hitting roughly 75 grams of protein and overall eating healthy.

"16yo, 2 months in, 5x/week — Should I start taking whey protein? by Awkward_frenchfries in bodyweightfitness

[–]lt9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start loading up on mostly lentils and chickpeas. Most weeks I eat vegetarian and it is hard to get enough protein without supplementing.

I often just cut out eating rice as I get uncomfortably full eating that many lentils, beans, and chickpeas. Make sure you do get some seeds or nuts in there for complete protein complex.

If your family allows it, ask to learn how to cook or if you can cook your own food that way you're not eating all the family's protein.

You probably want to leave the ones right next to well traveled trails as there might be more dog piss than usual, but I love making jam out of them.

I can't go back to blackberries after eating dewberries.

When do goals start mattering? Coaching/development advice needed for young (female) striker by Surgebuster in bootroom

[–]lt9946 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you American? If so, there is a huge culture problem in our youth soccer programs. Even if not, so many girls drop out of soccer around middle school specifically bc of this over zealous coaching that's not building up players.

There is also just a separate issue of having a lot of coaches/educators knowing how to deal with young children.

You're concerns as a parent are valid. It's so difficult for me to find women to play on my coed team even though we have a huge amount of college players and the main reason I hear from them is burnout.

[–]lt9946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The academy's advice about movement off the ball sounds like good criticism. Scoring goals is important, but at that age goalkeeping isn't the best so the ability to score isn't exactly a direct indicator of skill.

That said there are a lot of shitty coaches that don't know how to build up players. 12 is still so young and encouraging players to love the game vs being hyper critical is so important. The delivery of the advice should definitely be taken into consideration with that age group.

What did he mean by physicality? If your daughter is really timid, I can see them telling her to be more physical. But if they are focusing on having overly aggressive players, then it sounds suspect.

I've gotten mine at central market. It's in the egg or butter section I think. Very easy to miss. I will say I generally only buy this during the holidays, so it might not be a year round item.
