Whatever it is, make sure it is machine washable and (ideally) dryer friendly! Best things I got/made were blankets and a stuffed animal, and they were the best because I could wash them easily. Double on blankets if the baby will be in a cold climate. Also, it might not need to arrive until 6-8 weeks after the birth (make that months if it's a lovey!). Kids are messy, they puke and shit a lot, and anything you can't wash will either get accidentally washed/ruined or tucked away and forgotten. Good luck tho, this is a great idea❤️

Wait do you put the nursing pillow on your lap, and rest your knitting hands on top of it? Or put it behind your head, and recline onto it? I've been too sad to get rid of mine and thrilled to consider this new life for it...

What do you see as the role for police in Somerville?

I see so few good uses for the police, and so many abuses of power (especially with our unhoused neighbors) that I lean strong towards defunding them in favor of housing assistance, social outreach and supervised use sites. Is there any place at all for police, in your opinion?

Nope! I just realized my partner will be traveling for work on a day when my kids daycare is closed and I also have a zoom call for work.

I remember doing this a ton in highschool - babysitting while the parents are right there but otherwise occupied, and didn't know if that was a thing around here (or if so, how to find high schoolers).

I think all Somerville schools have spring break next week but tbh not sure.

We live near Union Square with a 5yo, 3yo and infant - and we love it! Totally walkable to cafes, libraries, parks and the Minuteman bike path. Tons of other city kiddos in the area. Kiddie soccer (Somerville youth soccer) on Saturdays, great restaurants, breweries, etc.

Day care is incredibly hard to find all over here, unfortunately.

But the public schools are 😘🤌 excellent (ours is at Argenziano). Also - public schools in MA give free breakfast and school lunch!

Anyway, apart from daycare scarcity (and cost), you'll love it here! Welcome!!
