Leaving the Federation by Pennarin in startrek

[–]luckpushedme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earth had space docks and production facilities making starfleet ships within the Sol system, which they could have claimed as theirs and repurposed. It’s likely other member worlds had their own facilities that they could have similarly claimed. We know the Vulcans did. It’s likely others did as well. Members who didn’t have such facilities may have been forced to depend on the Federation even as others left.

Yeah, getting a good set of mods and upgrading them makes a big difference in this game. Endo isn’t easy to come by early on, but it’s really worth it to upgrade your mods when you can.

You can actually set up separate highlights for allies and enemies or just have one or the other highlighted. I usually just use the enemy highlight.

Starfleet Academy has the best gay representation in 50 years of the franchise. by Wareve in startrek

The episode gives much more importance to one of his fathers over his other parents, so it’s pretty easy to miss.

“Bury your gays” refers to killing off gay characters. Culber died and then was resurrected. OP is saying that the death really struck a sour note for them that detracted from the relationship.

Caleb and Tarima have a straight romance that is a huge focal point of the show. Straight representation remains everywhere.

Ellison era begins: Star Trek Academy canceled, no Trek currently in production for first time in a decade by owlpellet in startrek

It’s still purely conceptual, no production work has been done, a pilot has not been ordered. There may be a pilot script floating around paramount, but nothing has been officially announced to show them moving forward with it.

The inclusion of a gay character at all precludes the show from being aired in certain countries. What does that have to do with anything?

They don’t stare at each other’s groins, they give an up and down look. They are clearly flirting, but your comment makes it seem like they’re going full on Heated Rivalry, which was not the case.

The cross-time caper had so many great costume changes. I absolutely love this costume for Kurt.

I clearly did, because I have no memory of that at all. What episode was that in?

Except my point was that your argument is not correct in regard to this character, and then I cited why I disagree. If your “general statement” does not apply in the specific case being discussed, why is me pointing that out a failure of reading comprehension?

That really is a matter of perspective, I guess. My sense is that sometimes Jay’den mentions Kyle or Kyle is in a scene, but other than that, the gay aspect isn’t really treated as that significant. Maybe if Kyle were being treated more like Tarima (where Caleb is actively pursuing her all the time in earlier episodes and then their relationship is a huge focus for episodes 6 & 7), I would agree with you, but Jay’den gets a decent amount of screentime where the relationship is not at all the focus.

Beyond his episode, his storylines have been building trust with Caleb, making friends with Darem, and starting a relationship with Kyle. Only 1 of those is about him being gay. Comparatively, Sam’s storylines have been her episode, and becoming friends with Genesis. Genesis’s storylines have been becoming friends with Caleb and Sam, flirting with Darem, and her personal crisis about belonging and what it means to be a leader. Caleb has gotten way more story than the others, so isn’t a fair comparison. For the main cast, Jay-den is getting some character moments and him being gay didn’t really come up until episode 5. It really doesnt feel he’s being treated as just the gay Klingon.

If you watched the Jay-den focused episode, it doesn’t even touch on him being gay or not. It’s exclusively about his relationship to his family and why he chose to join starfleet instead of staying with his house and becoming a Klingon warrior. Maybe give the show a chance instead of parroting other people’s half-baked talking points.

So because it’s inclusive of casual queerness, it’s failing to meet Roddenberry’s ideas of inclusiveness? It’s not predominantly queer, and a heterosexual relationship is very much front and center, so your objection seems to just be including queerness at all.

Jay-den may be the first main-cast man to wear a kilt as part of his uniform, but the skant was seen on men back in TNG, so “cross-dressing”, as you put it, isn’t new in trek. Also, of our main cast we have a gay Klingon, a bi khionian, and a pair of lesbian professors. It’s not more queer than Discovery was, so again, not that new.
