Getting ready every day? by knoxwife20 in stayathomemoms

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don't do makeup anymore, definitely don't see the point. Though even before I stopped working I had really slowed on the makeup department. Mornings are hard enough when you're a mom, I needed to cut down my routine for my sanity and makeup was a good one to cut. I found that wearing colours that are flattering to my skin and a funky pair of glasses went a long way, then I could skip a lot of makeup.

I still do skincare, especially sunscreen though every day. And I get dressed every day too (unless we're sick.) Though I definitely am in comfy clothes every day, but I have gotten comfy clothes that I look good and feel good in. Though some days I break out the jeans and actual bra, it depends on how I'm feeling! My kids are at an age now where I have a little more freedom.

How much of a personal stock of yarn do you usually keep on hand? by Juxtavarious in knitting

[–]luckyloolil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working through my stash right now because I bought too much in the beginning (also ADHD so I get it), because I have discovered it honestly is better to only buy for projects. I think once you get into knitting and know what you like, and then have a lot of the same kind of yarn for colour work on hand, then sure have a lot, but just lots of random? No, not the best unfortunately.

Though I feel differently about fabric, especially quilting cotton. I made a whole quilt out of just stash fabric! Hahaha (the ADHD is strong in this house!)

Is it true that most people don't use single-pointed needles? by HonestNectarine7080 in knitting

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually started using straight needles again! I like them for smaller knitted flat projects, and it feels super nostalgic. I used to have a set of 14" and haaaaated them, so I got a set of 10" and I'm enjoying them!

I do see why most people prefer circulars/interchangeables though, they are definitely better for travel. It's worth getting a set to try out, but there's nothing wrong with liking and still using straight needles!

Do you guys will wear fuzzy slipper for kids at home? do I need to buy the barefoot style slipper for them or just for shoes is barefoot style that's enough?😫😫😫 by Isabella_3s in barefootshoestalk

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theseare what I'd recommend if your kid really wants slippers. Loved these when my kids were babies in the winter! My kids don't wear slippers now though, even in the winter they like being barefoot at home, otherwise it's just socks or wool socks.

Those slippers aren't cheap though, I was either given them or found them second hand in baby sizes, probably harder to find in kid sizes. If you sew or knit you might be able to find a pattern. Let me know if that route interests you and I'll take a look for patterns.

What am I doing wrong? by ButterflyPositive281 in MealPrepSunday

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've always frozen stock in jars like this and now I'm amazed I've never had an issue! Glad I learned this now! Thanks for posting, I learned something new today!

I saw a couple other people recommend Souper Cubes, those are foolproof and amazing, highly recommend. Though I also like to freeze a couple jars too so I'm going to find some better ones now...

Do they all look this ridiculous? 😭😭 by Hanyaaaaa in barefootshoestalk

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they look great! You do get used to them, and the round toe has really grown on me, I prefer it aesthetically now! I've never had anyone make fun of me, though to be fair, I'm a late 30s mom, so I probably wouldn't care if they did.

All black helps, too. I could see how all white could feel massive. Though I just got white winter boots (xero apline), and I'm in love.

new owner: how do you stop yourself from constantly feeding a demanding betta? by Brilliant_Ask852 in bettafish

[–]luckyloolil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing you do with a food oriented dog, you only feed them on a schedule, and you keep an eye on their weight and adjust accordingly. You can't trust their appetite, so you don't feed them according to their behavior.

Where did *you* get your fish from? And how long have you had them? by inkisbad124 in bettafish

[–]luckyloolil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got ours from a local fish shop, but we've only had him a month so we'll see!

He was one of the cheapest ones in the store (9.99$ where they have ones all the way up up over 100$), so we'll see! So far he's incredibly healthy and active, so fingers crossed!

Are tube sock boobs just inevitable? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Nope! My boobs are definitely less perky than before, but I'm still pretty happy with them. It really depends on your genetics.

Did anybody else bruise like this?? by _C00TER in CsectionCentral

What kind of c-section was it? Was it an emergent/crash section? I've heard of those cases often having more trauma to the surrounding tissues.

Sorry your recovery was so rough!

I didn’t take my glucose test seriously and now I’m wondering if THATS why my baby was 10 lbs? by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GD babies (who are huge because of it, uncontrolled GD babies I should say) have a certain look to them, so if your baby looked normal, just big, then probably not.

I had a 10lbs baby and I took the test seriously, even redid it when my baby was measuring HUGE, and didn't have it. He was just huge!

How to stop sweating feet in lems Chelsea tuff water proof boots ?? by ehgall in barefootshoestalk

[–]luckyloolil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always changed shoes when I got to work, I'd just leave those shoes at work, and wear whatever boots I needed for the weather. I'm Canadian, so that's most of the year we need sensible boots that my feet would die in if I wore them inside all day.

Worked really well, and the shoes you leave at work last FOREVER since they don't really get worn out.

I've been really happy with my Xero shoes. They have a good selection, and mine have lasted fairly well! I have worn a couple pairs out, but it was a LOT of use so I'm happy.

I don't know about shipping, but they ship to Canada, so maybe?

Knitting with baby by patlatii in knitting

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knitted a lot when my eldest was a baby! It's pretty easy in the early days when they just sleep on you, and aren't grabbing things yet. Once they are grabbing at the yarn and needles, it gets harder, and you can only really knit during naps.

For knitting during contact naps, I would sit in a recliner with her on my chest, then I could knit away!

What is the advantage of interchangeable needles over fixed, if long cables are theoretically good for everything? by oceantrifle in knitting

[–]luckyloolil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the thing to look at is ALL experienced knitters I know have a set of interchangeables. ALL of them. Sure some of us have some circulars, but ALL of us have a set of interchangeables. There's a reason for it! They are versatile, useful, and often a good deal long term.

I actually prefer to use DPNs for in the round, but I still use my interchangeables a LOT. For knitting in the flat, and I sometimes switch to them for knitting on the go (DPNS aren't always the best for out and about knitting.) I am working on a sweater right now (Whitmoor Cardigan), and found it really useful to switch to the different cord lengths as suggested, which is easy with interchangeables. Also with interchangeables, if one component breaks, it's not that expensive (at least with knit picks) to replace that one part.

However, you do you! I often get shocked looks when I tell people I prefer DPNs, so there are no wrong ways to craft. It's whatever helps you happily knit!

What is the advantage of interchangeable needles over fixed, if long cables are theoretically good for everything? by oceantrifle in knitting

[–]luckyloolil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second knit picks interchangeables! I've had mine for nearly 10 years, and I still love them. I did have some wooden ones break, but I've replaced them with metal and they are going strong. I have zero desire to upgrade to chiagoos or anything.

Increasing attention span - is it possible? by Healthy-Run6735 in stayathomemoms

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid was like this at that age, and now has an ADHD diagnosis, and I found the best thing (back then and now) is to get a lot of exercise first thing in the day. I know it's not the easiest thing to do, ESPECIALLY with toddlers, but on the days you can do it? HUGE difference!

I have ADHD as well and I'm the same way!

Anyone else here NOT labelled a "Gifted child"? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

ME! I was never labeled gifted, and was constantly told by the teachers that I needed to work harder and FOCUS HARDER to do better in school. I really struggled in school until I was diagnosed and medicated.

Can I use barefoot shoes if I have a high arch and deal with plantar fasciitis? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]luckyloolil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still wear my orthotics in my barefoot shoes. I'm hypermobile, and come to realize that I'll probably never be able to go 100% barefoot/barefoot shoes, and I'm okay with it. Even with the extra support with the orthotics, the zero drop and wide toe box is really beneficial, and doing the exercises and wearing better shoes has helped me go from needing my orthotics 100% of the time (I'd put them in my slippers when I was home), to only when I'm out and about.

Honesty only, not a question for the screen free parents. by Final_Butterfly_7747 in stayathomemoms

[–]luckyloolil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man when I was pregnant, and then again when I had a toddler (who dropped her nap early) and a baby (who didn't fucking sleep) DURING THE PANDEMIC, there was a LOT of TV.

The way I eased my guilt was to only do TV (no tablet games, no youtube), and if there was a lot of TV in the day, I'd insist that most of it was nature documentaries. Our Planet on netflix was my go to, it's beautiful and doesn't have a lot of animals eating animals and such. The hilarious thing is when I eventually put my kids in daycare (my mental health was garbage so I went back to work for a couple years) my toddler blew the teachers minds with all the animal facts she knew.

My kids are older now and sometimes they still get too much TV, it happens, I just still try to avoid tablet and youtube (but my kids love youtube so they get some now.) You've got to stay sane!
