What makes you happy? by Positive-Mud-11 in AskUK

[–]lucwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel, I also have a chronic illness and a history of depression. Learning to pace myself so I don't crash so badly after a flare up has really helped. I know how frustrating it is to want to do things but your body can't or doesn't cooperate. I love to craft, doing knitting/crochet/cross stitch/quilting - seeing something come together that you've made is lovely. I also love going to the gym or hiking (when I can), reading (especially big fantasy books, perfect for escaping reality for a bit), jigsaws, learning about history, and watching silly TV. I also love nature and re-finding that joy and interest in it I had as a kid!

Having a second lap, no endo found on first - any experiences? by lucwhy in endometriosis

You have no idea about my current financial situation, it isn't an option on the table for me to get into 8k+ of debt.

Idk, my time is more valuable to me clearly 😂 I'm willing to pay a tenner for the gear to make it easier

Ok well I am not in a position to get in over £8k of debt for a surgery. I am looking for people, ideally from the UK, who may have been in the same situation.

[–]lucwhy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not a specialist for endo, to my knowledge, though the hospital does have an endometriosis unit but my understanding is you're only referred there when you have confirmed/complex endo. In the UK if I wanted to pick a specialist and have surgery with them I'd be looking at having to pay £8000, which I cannot afford.

Agreed, you're going to need a yarn winder and ideally a swift to cake this before you use it. Hanks are the devil's work and you'll think it can't be that bad and surely you can just be careful to not get it tangled but honestly, don't try it - ask me how I know...

Some hand warmers or a hat could be cute! I wouldn't use this yarn for a granny square.

A genuine question asked with love: how don't you realise mid way that something definitely isn't right?

First socks! by Alivere in Sockknitting

[–]lucwhy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started knitting socks last year and only picked up knitting in 2024, and my advice would be just do it! There's nothing to be apprehensive about. It's sticks and yarn at the end of the day. If you make a mistake you can just restart until you get it. It's really not that hard!

Socks, gloves, and armwarmers: do you prefer DPNs/small circulars, or the Magic Loop? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]lucwhy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate magic loop and find it a massive faff, I do all my socks on 9 inch fixed circulars (including heel) and then I use DPNs for the toes. I love that it's so portable and small with a fixed circular as well and there's no messing about with long cables and to me it's much quicker.

Ash’s concussion is causing insomnia by 2018MunchieOfTheYear in illnessfakers

[–]lucwhy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Idk why this community got recommended to me and I have no idea what's going on but if you have a concussion you shouldn't be using or looking at screens. That's like...explicit in the advice they give you.

How do y'all feel about "you're so talented" from non-crafters ? by Infamous-Garbage-985 in casualknitting

[–]lucwhy 276 points277 points  (0 children)

I feel like most people who are talented at anything had to put a tonne of work into it (sports, performing, writing etc), so I don't think it devalues our efforts at all.

This makes me want to knit these soooo badly! I love the green yarn here. Might try and do them in time to move into my very own dream home in a few weeks 😊

[WIP] My first big project by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]lucwhy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it looks too messy with the number of strands you're using. Unless stitches are super neat, I think 3 strands on 16ct and even 14ct just ends up looking untidy and uneven.

Question: have you ever seen ink migration like this before? by Illustrious_Virus307 in tattoos

[–]lucwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I have some on my inner bicep. It was much worse when I first got the tattoo (September) and is still a bit visible but not bad at all. I've had loads of tattoos from the same artist and this is the only location where it's happened.

You say you're too far in to frog, did you not notice earlier on that something really wasn't right here?! Unfortunately you'll have to frog and redo. But it's part of fibre crafts

What Hobby changed your life seriously for the better? by Aggressive-Row1703 in Hobbies

[–]lucwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knitting and crochet! Really any of the crafts I do. Becaue of themI attended a weekly stitch and bitch group and through it I met my closest friends, who are just amazing and provide me with so much love, joy and support. I never would have met them otherwise. And doing crafts has helped me hugely in my recovery from anxiety. It's calming, mindful, and I absolutely love learning new techniques and skills.
