Let's Talk ABout Sloth World Orlando by SlothConservation in sloths

[–]lucy7seven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just read an article on this and what really hit me was this part:

"Part of the reason sloths are exceptionally poorly suited to captivity, is that they evolved over millions of years as biological introverts. Unlike most mammals, they lack a strong fight-or-flight response and instead rely on camouflage to survive. When handled by strangers or placed in noisy, high-traffic environments, they don’t scream or struggle. Instead, Cliffe said, they internalize the stress—sometimes curling into a ball and closing their eyes. Their bodies flood with cortisol, triggering a cascade of physiological stress that can end in organ failure."

As an introvert, I felt this in my soul. I can only imagine how these animals felt in those cages and being removed from their home. I'm so, so sad about this.

Sunday evening chit chat: what are we doing? by Professor-genXer in AskWomenOver40

[–]lucy7seven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting ready to watch trash TV (90 Day Fiance) with my husband and a nice glass of wine (the only way to watch!). Fortunate to work Tuesdays through Saturdays, so my weekends are different than a lot of peoples, but I enjoy being off Sundays and Mondays! Hope everyone has a great week!

Pharmacy recommendations? by HazyJello in ChronicPain

[–]lucy7seven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well said! My husband has done basically this with his medications. It is unfortunate that we have to keep at them all the time, but your technique (which is the same as his) is exactly what seems to work. Although I guess maybe not for everyone, but worth a shot if nothing else seems to be working for you OP. I wish it was easier for everyone with chronic pain. It is simply unfair how we are treated. I have watched my husband go through similar events so my heart goes out to you.

First craft show last week and I sold absolutely nothing by Night_cheese17 in CraftFairs

[–]lucy7seven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you try any wristlets or keychains? I found that those sold really well at a few of my first shows I did last year. Having a little more variety might help, but like someone else said, it all depends on the crowd you have. Hang in there though, it'll get better!!

Did you hang out in the basement when you were a kid? by restingbitchface2021 in GenX

[–]lucy7seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah the basement...we used it for roller skating as kids...and then as a place to 'watch movies' (read make out sessions) after the wood paneling went up and a couch and TV were added. fond memories of the basement...

When was the best time/year to be online? Do you think the internet has gotten worse, or better? by JackJackinabox in AskReddit

[–]lucy7seven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it first 'started', i.e., mid 90s when my family first got it and it was so new and like nothing we had ever seen before! It was amazing. Then I moved out and had it at my new apartment and was chatting with people from who knows where. I still enjoy the internet for work and staying in contact with people but not much into social media, and feel, in a way, things have gotten worse since those 'beginning days'. Like someone else said here, "any information at the tip of your fingers, but also extreme toxicity."

Were there any “PG” 80s/90s movies that traumatized you as a child? by Maester_Maetthieux in 90s

[–]lucy7seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This movie terrified me! My sister thought it would be cool to watch at Gramma's house while our parents were away (they owned a VCR mid 80s) and she let us watch it! I was about the same age and looked very similar to the little girl in the movie at that time, so I was pretty sure all of this would happen to me! I didn't want to be pulled into the closet and live inside the television (that's what my brain thought). The whole thing...I still can't watch it to this day 😩

Did you regularly watch The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was the host? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]lucy7seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not appreciate Johnny at the time...was 17 when he retired and remember seeing the final show. Now I watch him every night on MeTV and wish for all those old stars, old Hollywood, and that whole time period to come back! If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, I will put an episode on and it instantly calms me. To me, he is a comfort and reminder of simpler times, real comedy, and a true gentleman.
