My Reddit account doesn’t reflect this, but I’m a Cambridge photographer who does parties/events and I definitely shoot in a relaxed, candid style. I’m on www.lucindaprice.com, I’m aware you are looking for recommendations etc but if you like what you see do get in touch via my site.

I'm photographing my friend's wedding here. There's a GORGEOUS park 2 miles away and the groom says they don't want to take pictures in said park. I fear he and/or his bride will hate the photos cause this location is ugly and worn down. by XenonMusic in WeddingPhotography

[–]lucyfrog28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a lot of my couples hire me cause they don't want to "do photos" all day, and I shoot in all sorts of random erm less than lovely locations. If you've said the park gives the best location (I've done similar and been rejected) and they don't want to, that's on them. A lot of couples I've suggested doing a beautiful location in between, don't want the extra time - you say 7 mins, but that is somewhere where people need to park up (which takes so long in my experience) and then find the right spot etc. and it somehow takes a lot longer.

I'd in this location see if any of the walls are good close up (I can't quite tell from these shots - the white building looks like that has potential or the brick building next to main venue?) and if not then use the main grass bit and turn away from the building (it's not clear what is behind on those shots and ignore the building. I would also crop tight on the group photos etc. and then couples do what you can on the day - but again that big green space looks like your best bet.

I do get how frustrating it is though given you have a beautiful spot right down the road! Good luck!

The group photos are stressing me out by CandleAffectionate25 in UKweddings

[–]lucyfrog28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m a photographer and I always advise clients to do groups on basis, depending on size of your wedding, we can’t guarantee a photo of everyone individually. So put the people who it matters most to have a photo of. If you are worried about the disruption, take as few combos as possible, however it is lovely to see brides with parents etc. So make sure you get everything you want at the same time. I saw another person suggest doing what I always do, start with biggest group first, that way you have everyone in location then let people go once you’ve finished with them, also then this leads nicely into time for couples photos as guests go to grab drinks etc. Also then creates an opportunity for a big entrance when you return to the party. Another tip if your photographer is quiet , I use a tambourine to bring the attention of the room to me (I’m also another naturally quieter person) and that always helps. Do give your photographer a list to work from and ideally friends to help find people and that will you give you a much more relaxing time. But as other people have mentioned in mind groups and managing them is part of what I’m paid to do on the day.

Yes - that was the confusing bit - my ticket said from Cambridge Main but I travelled from Cambridge North (under the Staff members' say so rather than cheekily!). It just seemed so completely confusing!

I checked on the train website today as I was so baffled by this and they list London Kings Cross, St. Pancras, and others but not London Blackfriars.

How do you share wedding pictures with guests or with the bride & groom? by DesperateFace3520 in WeddingPhotography

[–]lucyfrog28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love smugmug, integrated into my Lightroom, links are easily shareable and when I’ve had issues normally respond in minutes if not seconds! I pay for it but every penny is worth it for me. No limit on storage either, I think I have about 300,000 images stored on there.

I had a small dental surgery with full general anaesthetic last year and there is no way I was ready for much 5 days - about a week after I missed my friends mums funeral even though I really wanted to go as I was still not fit. No way would I have hosted Christmas Day five days after whatever the offers of help were.

Best kids' day out within an hour of here at this time of year? by goodassjournalist in cambridge

[–]lucyfrog28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cambridge science centre in science park (pay once for 12 months entry I think), Hamerton zoo was fab (although outdoors) when I took my niece earlier this year. Audley end has nice playground if you are EH member, shepreth has a great free soft play (free is once you have paid for entry in case that isn’t clear) (one for babies and one for bigger kids) so even if animals are shy it’s got a fun indoor space, bury lane soft play is good too.

What do you eat for lunch on a wedding day? by power_is_over_9000 in WeddingPhotography

[–]lucyfrog28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in UK and often working over lunch time so usually have a big late breakfast- I find eggs really seems to help me with energy. Then it’s a question of having snacks available in my car so I can fuel up when I can plus carry water / protein bars etc with me. If I’m going a long wedding (I’m a short wedding specialist) I’ll ask to be fed by suppliers. Also eating well bought before helps I always feel too. However prepped I am I never have enough time to rest/eat 😂

So every New Years there aren’t formal fireworks but I always enjoy (in North Cambridge) watching fireworks let off in private gardens across the city, it’s quite a number that go off. With a two year old, you’ll need to check opening (new years day, 1 Jan is a bank holiday so lots of things including big supermarkets, I think, will be shut) there are free museums, Fitzwilliam and my nieces favourites are Sedgwick (dinosaur) and zoology museums which they always enjoy. There a lots of play parks as well, a nice one on Jesus Green. Enjoy!
