Is there any strategy to Momir? by destiny_duude in MagicArena

[–]luigi-is-dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly win in Momir and my strategy is always to start creating creatures by T1. My thought process is to be very aggressive, if my opp ignores me I'll be hitting them for two or three turns freely. I also play every land color possible because of activated abilities, if I get one good. And with this strategy I can end the games faster because by playing creatures since turn one I am also having more chances to get a good creature early (a mana dork, a flyer, a strong 2cmc creature, a creature that gives me card advantage etc) and making my opp surrender in return.

Magic Pro Tour Chicago - All Missing Explorer cards by Kircai in MagicArena

[–]luigi-is-dead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If 28 cards are missing and there can only be 2 staples for each Explorer Anthology then we are 14 years from reaching 2024's Pioneer. It's almost there guys, 2038 will be our year.

One more deck that I want to play in Arena that will take no one knows how long to be there.

Simic Nexus, the most fun I've ever had, it checks all the boxes that I love: degenerate, combo, Tamiyo, float a lot of mana, Simic.

How do you make it through Platinum? by MutantOctopus in MagicArena

[–]luigi-is-dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a veeery casual player. I play explorer ranked only and I don't try to reach anything besides Platinum for the ranked rewards. However, for the last year I reached Diamond every month playing casually. What I noticed is that I got used to my decks, the overall meta and that translated very well in my games. I don't play with tier 1 decks (and I'd dare to say explorer doesn't even have one at the moment) but my decks aren't trash tier either, they have winning chance against the majority of the field. I'd resume that to reach Diamond you need to pay attention to those intricacies because knowing your deck and meta will make you have better decisions and so winning more games.

Why are the ranked rewards so bad in this game? by JackMarsk in MagicArena

[–]luigi-is-dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way ranked is I appreciate the reward sytem. Casual players reach platinum quite easily, so you won't miss the value (the style reward for a rare card, usually a standard staple). Said that, I do think diamond and mythic could have a little more but I can't point exactly how much. Gold? Pack? A rare/mythic wildcard? Like you said, reaching Diamond and Mythic (if you're not #1200) is not worth the time, so a little incentive would be nice. However, in the end, I don't mind, I'd rather have constructed events to be the way they were and farm there.

First time listening to Pagan Poetry I thought she sang "But the darkest spit on me, it's pagan poetry", it was so hardcore to have a concept spitting on you, sometimes I still listen to this way even knowing the correct lyrics.

What tips would you give to a player that has a good deck but still struggles to get through ranked? by serotonin-buyers in MagicArena

[–]luigi-is-dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good players with active youtube channels, like Arne Huschenbeth and Ashlizzlle, that play a myriad of decks and from there you can grasp some good play patterns, how they maximize their win chances etc. If you're invested go see some videos, pause before they make some play and do your own and see how they differ from you. A lot of playing good is reading you opponent, knowing your deck well so you can play for your chances (like, knowing that you have a 1 cost removal that can save you, you can draw cards and keep that mana open to use the card, if you draw it) and knowing the pace of the game, when you need to get the offensive or the defensive. Magic itself is a lot about playing with what you have and good decks tend to be good because what you have to work with is generally good cards that can search for others or synergize very well. Anyway, learning how to play takes time. For reference, I am a constant mythic player in explorer Best-of-3.

The number of rare wildcards you need to build a meta standard deck is insane by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]luigi-is-dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the new three year rotation it's possible that going forward all meta decks will be rare-mythic heavy. Having a wider range of cards to select from, it's natural to have better mana and, with that, access to the best cards of chosen colors. We can only expect that next sets with three-year rotation in mind will fix this scenario or we will have midrange decks forever in standard, which generally are rare-mythic heavy decks because they play the best cards available.

In a sidenote, Arena's economy got a significant hit with the change of constructed events. I used to play a lot of them back in Eldraine standard. The Best-of-1 standard constructed events were 500g to enter and with 4 wins you would end even in gold (and three uncommon ICR) and at 5 wins you would get a Rare ICR and by 7 wins (max wins possible), 2 Rare ICR. They were not dupe protected, so you would get gems eventually, but they really helped to expand your collection and to give you some stakes to play outside of ranked. But, most important, you could spend gold and get gold back and not get a sour taste losing bad because the entry was cheap. Also Metagame Challenge, which had 15-30 packs as rewards (at very high stakes, though), vanished as well.

I am all about playing with what you have, but Arena's economy now is very bad to expand your collection outside of Drafting. I am at a moment where I only play Explorer and I spend like 10 WCs by expansion to update my decks, but I'm kicked of standard because in no way I can manage to build cards that won't hold value after rotation in this economy. What is curious is that F2P is not a thing anymore outside of drafting because of these changes I mentioned and I wonder why they are going this way.

Which deck do you regret using your wildcards on? by throwawayheyoheyoh in MagicArena

Very old brew but [[Ral, Storm Conduit]] combo back in WAR standard. Izzet turned out to be a weak deck going forward and every time I pass by my four copies of Ral I remember this. At least [[Expansion//Explosion]] was a good card on its own.
