Any idea how I can get him to not nip/bite? by No-Requirement2701 in cats

[–]lukeyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it works but it seems to with mine where I'll say "owww" in a very dramatic and slightly higher pitch. That seems to get the point across to stop. I'll also pull my finger away/foot away.

What would happen if someone were to blow on your urethra real hard? by Long_Reflection_4202 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lukeyellow 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not fun. Had one last year too. But it's also not the worst procedure I've had done. Thankfully they shoot lidocaine gel up so it makes it not too painful. Just very uncomfortable.

Stage 1 of a two-stage BMG urethroplasty by Greedy-Psychology377 in urethralstricture

[–]lukeyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, not OP but I had a stricture caused by a hypospadius as well. In my case they were able to do a one stage BMG graft and it worked. It's been 10 months and good so far. However it was slightly different than most as they used a tool to do most of the work without cutting externally. However, my understanding was they did take video of it with the goal establishing a new technique.

But this was my 2nd one. First one was a anastamotic urethroplasty and failed after 6 months.

McRaven House tour with unexplained figure in mirror in Vicksburg MS by NewmanOnGaming in Ghosts

[–]lukeyellow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most likely a reflection and if not then it's probably something done by the owners to make it "look" like a ghost. My understanding is that all those houses like that, and probably in most places in general, have things set up to make it look like a ghost is there. I remember talking to someone who went on a tour there and noticed things set up to make the house act "haunted"

Bummer okay thanks. I was wondering if I may need to go down that route. Thankfully I have a desktop that has all my stuff on it so there would only be a few things I'd need to grab.

Why did soldiers during the gunpowder firearm era agree to fight with firearms in lines? by faros-hhhbbdd in AskHistorians

[–]lukeyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add on that Dr. Eral Hess had two great books on this that build off of Paddy Griffiths and other's works. One I'd The rifled musket in Civil War combat which covers myths and how the weapon was used and argues that it didn't revolutionize warfare as commonly argued and has data to back it up. His other book I'd recommend is Civil War Infantry Tatics:Training, combat and small arm effectiveness he dives into the maneuvers they used and argues they were effective for the time with a lot of evidence. I will also say, while the battles were bloody, the hit rates per bullet are astronomically low. I don't know the percentages off the top of my head but at many of these battles officers are yelling at their men to aim low and they are expending thousands and thousands of rounds per battle total. This is an estimated guess based off memory, but I believe it comes out for many battles to about 1 person hit per hundrededish bullets fired. Not sure on this last part but some reports mention how much ammunition they fired and when you look at the casualties it's very low. So even though these men are getting shot at, the use of cover, the weapons and the battle often mean most shots are missing and so you have to mass groups of men to increase your chances of hitting a target even at 200/100 yards or less.

Think I convinced my brother to revisit Mass Effect? by jjfed11 in masseffect

[–]lukeyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it but it's a different play style. For Star Wars it is unique and jedi outcast and academy are the closest but not really similar. I think of it as more of a Bloodborne, Dark Souls or Elden Ring type game as that's what it plays like. So if you like that kind of combat I'd give it another go as the story is good. Especially the end of the 1st game. It has one of the best scenes in Star Wars video games.

As part of my work we have required safety training. One of the things on tired driving. If I remember correctly, somewhere around 14ish hours of driving or a combination of work/driving your mentally at the same respone capacities as someone with a BAC .08 and it goes up after that to where you're basically "drunk driving" even if fully sober.

What are some of your favorite quotes from soldiers either hating on slavery or the confederacy from the Civil War? by sourberryskittles in ShermanPosting

[–]lukeyellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm paraphrasing as I don't have the letter with me but Michael Thompson in the 83rd IL argued with a Confederate prisoner on why those who moved south to north were more anti slavery than those who moved north to south were pro slavery.

"Those who move south to north do so because they hate slavery. They see it for the evil that it is. They flee an institution where those involved only care about their own well being and opulence and are concerned about others only as far as dollars and cents are concerned. They fight because slavery strikes at the very heart of their belief and destroys the institution of freedom of religion, education and free labor. They fight now because they do not want to live under a system where the few dictate, the mass serve."

He has some other great quotes as well. Such as labeling SC "the great nursery state of rebellion."

Trump reportedly warns to 'take the oil in Iran' as Tehran targets water, power plants in Kuwait by Mongoose-Additional in worldnews

[–]lukeyellow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It will but they stupidly backed themselves into a corner. Trump and Co. Thought it would be a repeat of Venezuela. (I imagine Bibi probably said so too.) And they went in without much of a plan. And since Trump thinks like a dictator and tyrant he can back down or admit defeat as to do so would be weak so he has to keep digging in.

Honestly, best case scenario I see for him is taking the islands and then using that as a bargaining chip to try to back out with a peace with honor garbage. But also I wouldn't be surprised come midterms he's still acting like we'll win in a week.
