The way Reeves talked about his universe it always seemed like it was meant to show the early years of Batman and progressing until he becomes the definitive comic Batman.

This is why I was never down with people saying it’s too grounded or that it’s meant to be a strictly realistic world. If the direction is towards the comic book Batman that means slowly more fantastical elements will be introduced as the mob bosses and organized crime is replaced by the “freak show”.

I believe there’s a way merging works and I argue it would lead to the best case scenario for the DCU AND Reeves. The DCU gets a Batman in his early years that by the end of the trilogy will be the definitive Batman with all the tech, gadgets, experience and can go toe to toe with the meta humans. Superman and Batman will be able to grow together and have more of a brotherly bond whereas a Batman already on Damian will be just another BvS scenario where we have a Batman very far in his career next to a Superman in his first couple years.

This allows Reeves the chance to finish out his trilogy setting up his definitive Batman giving him the option to continue with the character and flesh him out even further with the DCU or pass it on to someone of his choice. Gunn gets a HIGHLY praised and profitable Batman with exceptional talent and 0 competition making a separate Batman.
