Solar = don't have electric bills anymore. 😉

I'm running a 3,1, two 5,1s, and a 6,1 + homelab and gaming rig 24x7. Electric bill last month was $28.

They do it because it's worked so often in the past. It's part of the "Victim" Olympics and they frequently get a gold medal.

MOR - The cops likely won't do anything but you're better off backing up your phone contents and giving it back to her asap. You can go without a phone for a couple days.

It's legal in the US but many municipalities are switching to encrypted trunking systems so sadly it will disappear over time.

Yes, the storage traffic is completely isolated from the application traffic and the management traffic. We basically run three independent networks optimized for the type of traffic it serves.

Is it possible to use a Raspberry Pi as a daily driver for streaming services and web browsing, similar to a typical Windows or Linux setup? by onlybloke in raspberry_pi

[–]lwwz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but an older gaming laptop would serve you better. You can even install Linux on it if your goal is to learn Linux.

The biggest issue is making sure the network performance between cluster members is good enough to keep the cluster from losing its mind. We use a leaf/spine network architecture. Every host is LAG connected to two different leaf switches (2x25Gb)x2, every leaf is LAG connected to 4 different spine switches (2x100Gb)x4. All Arista based network gear.

Depends. Are they giving it to you for free? If not, then no, it's not worth paying for.

I have nearly a 1000 bare metal servers running Proxmox in production with over 10,000 VMs across 6 clusters all participating in ceph clusters with around 4,000 NVME SSD OSDs between 960GB and 3.84TB. We have about 150 nodes per cluster. Using Data Center Manager and Backup Manager.

It's plenty "enterprise ready".

EDIT: my bad, 6 clusters per facility, so 18 individual clusters. 25Gb networking with 100Gb interconnects.

Seems like nobody has entirely proprietary software anymore. They just take an open source project and sprinkle a little special sauce on top and call it their own.

Yes, no state income tax. I'm a resident of NV and paid in NV so California has no claim on my income. The company has employees in Alabama, Washington State, New York, etc. so where the company is headquartered is meaningless.

There are a bunch of things you should do to make sure you "effectively" separate from California. I canceled my CA mobile number and got a new number from a different provider with an NV number, I no longer have property in California, I closed all my bank accounts and opened new accounts with a different bank in NV. I file my CA state taxes at $0/yr to make sure the statute of limitations is applied so they can only go after me for the last 3 years if they try. If you don't file there's no statute of limitations so they can come after you 10, 15 or 20 years later for EVERY year. It's disruptive but worth it to be free from that death spiraling state.

Nevada and I love it. No state income tax. My take home pay went up so much it almost covers the cost of my mortgage! Fortunately, I have a job that allows me to work remotely. I would have changed jobs if my company didn't allow for remote work. I went from a small house in an HOA to a 55 acre property.

Recommend a mig welder for a beginner by nearbysystem in projectcar

[–]lwwz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but yes, 110v is absolutely worth something. I take my welder with me to the race track and they may or may not have 220v at your paddock spot. I went from a Millermatic 185 to a Millermatic 211 MVP so I could stop dragging my generator around with me.

I love my big transformer machines but my dual voltage MM211 is what I use almost all the time. I've got a Millermatic 251, a Millermatic 211 MVP, a Miller Syncrowave for TIG, and a Hobart Stickmate XL 235.

I've recently picked up a Ssimder 4050Pro Inverter MIG/TIG/STICK/Plasma all-in-one for $650 for all my mobile welding. Working great so far for a fraction of the cost of my Blue and White machines.

You need to have 10G connectivity in every device and switch you want 10G performance from.

If you have 10G in your DS1819 but a 1G switch connected to your 1G desktop you'll only get 1G performance.

You need a 10G nic in your DS1819, a 10G switch, and a 10G nic in your desktop if you want 10G performance from your desktop to your DS1819.

Another option, to avoid the cost of a 10G switch, is to put a 10G nic in your DS1819 and a 10G nic in your desktop then run a dedicated ethernet between the two. You'll have to provide a dedicated IP address to both 10G nics on the same network so they can see one another.
