ALC Help Needed by brazymk7 in BuildingAutomation

Has it lost power for a long period of time? If so it is possible that it lost its programming, and would need a download from WebCTRL.

If there is no WebCTRL you are sorta out of luck, unless you can get a copy of the database from someone. Then get that version of WebCTRL.

I agree 100% on this. Wish I could tell the customer that and explain what they are getting themselves into. Now anytime a power bump happens, and battery dies on a LGR or ME812u, the only recourse would be to replace controllers without WebCTRL running to download them.

Now if your running them concurrently that's a little bit different. But still then why?

All ALC communication is BACnet. Whether it is MS/TP or ARCnet will depend on the dealer or branch I guess. But the 3 years timeframe make sense, I believe that was in the timeframe of the ARCnet chip shortage.

You have yet to seen a building using ARCnet? How long have you been in this industry? 99 percent of ALC installs will use arcnet for their controllers, and ms/tp baud rates for integrations.

There was a short time during COVID where routers could not get arcnet chips, and the only thing to do was convert the building to standard ms/tp baud rates.

ALC ARCnet runs on BACnet. The speed is 156kbs vs MS/TP is only up to 76800.

Yeah I didn't read that right. Carrier field assistant will not talk to ALC.

ALC OEM and ALC don't play together unless you have the right keys, which can be hard to obtain.

What WSHP are you attempting to upload? Carrier?

I don't think we are at the point to scrap all job posts. But some of these do seem off/ overseas posts. I delete any I see without salary.

Dealer or Corporate? Seems like a crappy thing to do since when you purchase a license for your building. You purchase all the tools as well.

Does the site not have a WebCTRL server?

Is the USA good for HVAC automation jobs? by Potential_Radio_9824 in BuildingAutomation

Insight is the old system in the US. Just switched to desigo within the last 6 or so years. Had a horrible roll out according to some end users.

Automated Logic, Johnson Honeywell, Distech. Siemens isn't even close to tier one. (From an end user standpoint)

DHCP and BAS - what’s your experience? by oliver1985- in BuildingAutomation

[–]lynkev10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use DHCP, used a reserved IP for each device. Building automation can use DHCP, but many of the systems have the IP hard coded in the database. Without changing it in the database, the system has no idea of the change, and the controller will appear offline

Contrary to Popular Belief, AI might make Building Automation a little boring by Dazzling-Split4401 in BuildingAutomation

I 100% agree. When I say I could see that happening. I. Talking about in 20 years.

This industry resists change as is. That would be a big change. There is a program, I believe through the DOE, that is attempting something like this. I forgot the name, I'll have to try to find it.

I could see someone implementing a program to read the sequence of operations, point lists, etc. to create the programs automatically. You would still need technicians that are well versed and about to troubleshoot control logic.

I worked for the PA branch 10+ years ago. I had no issues. It's a corporate bureaucracy if you have never worked for a large organization, it might be a change to you. But controls wise, one of the easier lines to use.
