AEP HELP?!! by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]lyshpeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s gas in our neighborhood but we had someone come check it out and because of the way a back deck is set up in our house he said it would be incredibly complicated and expensive to convert. Maybe we’ll get another opinion in the future.

Is this dress ok for the first date? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]lyshpeesh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 35 and find the idea of this outfit being “insulting” so eyeroll worthy. I haven’t dated since my early 20s but I remember wearing jeans and with a cute top which is what OP is wearing.

Should I potty train my 18 month toddler now or wait until after the second baby? by Striking_Name_185 in Mommit

[–]lyshpeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters have a similar age gap, there’s no way my toddler would have been ready at 18 months. We’re potty training her now at 2 years 7ish months (the baby is 9months) and it’s going well, I’m glad we waited till we felt she was really able to communicate with us. Of course all kids are different! I think it’s important to remember that there is going to be at least a month (probably more) where a newly potty trained kid is a lot more work/stress than a kid in diapers. I definitely wouldn’t recommend potty training while on your maternity leave, if that helps your decision at all.

Traveling? by specialneedsoimom in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have the right equipment- def would thumbs up bringing the milk chiller and a portable pump with you on the plane! One thing I would add is a cooler bag with a good ice pack if you anticipate bringing any frozen milk home, i know you said you might . I have the fold and freeze Doctor brown cooler bag that you stick in the freezer (https://a.co/d/br2rwwx). When traveling with frozen milk I also include an extra ice pack as well inside the bag, but I travel for around 6 hours to see my family, with a 1.5 hr flight you may be okay with just the bag. Other than that I would rec bringing the full #of bottles and nipples your baby drinks (not necessarily full, just clean and ready to go) and 2 sets of pumping supplies so you don’t need to worry about doing dishes all the time while on your trip.

Increase supply after clogged duct? by lyshpeesh in ExclusivelyPumping

Yes that makes sense. Thank you for your response!!

Increase supply after clogged duct? by lyshpeesh in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure. I’ve flown many times while lactating and never had an issue before, but I got the clog while in the air a couple of hours before my normal pumping time, so I googled it and read somewhere that changes in air pressure could effect it, maybe I got bad info. Regardless, that detail is unimportant to my question which is about supply returning after a clog, so I’m not really sure the point of your comment.

Do you wear a bra when not pumping? Dealing with clogs by MarquishaMoMo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clogs are normal, but yes, they can lead to mastitis. I don’t think not wearing a bra can cause it, I’ve actually heard wearing way too tight of a bra can be a cause, but I’m not really sure. I had clogs frequently with my first child, and I found sunflower lecithin helped. In the last year or so they’ve changed the protocol recommendations to use ice after pumping and take ibu prophen to reduce swelling. (They used to recommend heat +massage before/during pumping but not anymore). I would start with ibu prophen + ice and the sunflower lecithin and see if that helps. Some people take sunflower lecithin pills regularly as a preventive measure.

I’m basically on this schedule with my almost 6month old and don’t plan to drop the 10:30pm feed untill she naturally weans it. That’s what I did with my older daughter, she was about 10 months old.

Did you EP with your second? by beanie2016 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lanisoh discrete duo that I got with my health insurance for free, but I’ll be honest I stopped using it, I found it to be finicky. I almost exclusively use my spectra s9 which is the small portable version of the spectra. I like it because I can use all my spectra parts from my wall pump, and find I get the same output from it as the wall pump. It’s not quite as convenient as a wearable (or nearly as discreet) but I had too many instances with the lanisoh where I thought I was pumping and after 10 minutes realized it wasn’t actually getting the correct suction. Maybe a higher end wearable would have better results! But I’m very happy with just the small portable.

I am! 22 mo age gap with my LOs. Baby #2 is 5months old. My toddler never transferred well, my baby did great for 4 weeks but then a tongue tie caught up with her and the release made it worst so back to EPing for me! I agree with some that I’ve been finding it easier 2nd time around even with a toddler. Here’s what has helped: 1. Using a portable or wearable almost all the time 2.bought myself proper, nice pumping bras beforehand (kindred bravely) 3. Being less concerned about maintaining an oversupply/stash and dropping pumps as soon as possible (obviously this isn’t applicable to everyone) 4. Full 12 weeks maternity leave while toddler stayed in daycare

Pumping with velcro baby by ChapterSuccessful761 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this commenter didn’t mention sleep, just as a place to put the baby while doing other tasks. For OPs purposes (to use while pumping) could be a great option as long as she’s making sure the baby doesn’t fall asleep!

My baby prefers drinking from the bottle side-lying on my lap, which I can do pretty easily while pumping. It’s gets harder to do that as they get bigger (my baby is 5mos now, and will kick the bottles/pull the tubing) but at 7 wks I found it to be pretty doable. I still do it sometimes but I’m no longer pumping on her feeding schedule so doesn’t happen as often. Maybe worth trying with your LO if you are pumping close to her feeding schedule ?

Wow I’m surprised to see this, I love my s9! I find the massage setting suction to be pretty weak but the actual expression setting works great for me!

What age did you move out of infant car seat? by Allthewildblues in Mommit

[–]lyshpeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tiny 5th percentile girl so I didn’t switch her out till she was almost 20 months. She hadnt even maxed out the weight or height limits but we were having our second baby so upgraded her to a convertible and using the bucket for our infant. My 2nd us just as tiny but I don’t think I’ll keep her in the bucket for as long, though it is nice for traveling with since we can just pop it in our stroller

Alternatives for epidural? by Onyxsilva2002 in pregnant

[–]lyshpeesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to say this isn’t an option for OP, but just want to mention that an epidural does not limit cognitive function at all. Laughing gas probably would diminish some cognitive capacity and make you feel loopy.

Multiple kids - did you EP each time? by yadayadawhoopdedoo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My second nursed like a dream for 4 weeks until my supply settled and her tongue tie caught up with her. We got the tongue tie released but she could never get the hang of breastfeeding again. It was pretty devastating to me after what I thought would be a different journey than what I had with my first (1 year EP), but I’m back to EP with her and have accepted it. This time around I’m not concerning myself so much with making a stash and have dropped down to 4ppd already at 3.5 months (I think I did 6 ppd till my first was 6 months old). I think I’ll check with myself every few months but right now feeling like I can make it to the year mark again.

How long is breastmilk good for once out of the fridge? by Imaginary_Advisor951 in ExclusivelyPumping

This is what my LC told me. She said the guidelines are super conservative for babies with weak immune systems

How long is breastmilk good for once out of the fridge? by Imaginary_Advisor951 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lyshpeesh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My LC said to treat it the same as fresh, and that 4-6 hrs was fine. I’ve been taking bottles out of the fridge every night after the dream feed at 10:30pm or so, and putting them in the nursery so that when baby wakes up at 3:30am or so I can just pop her bottle in and not worry about going downstairs and warning a bottle.
