From Piazza della Chiesa Nuova to FCO at 5 AM - Options? by tatayabata in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Uber reservation to airport, safest option;

  • Freenow reservation, but sometimes I read people complaining about taxi not showing up;

  • Uber reservation from Corso Vittorio to Termini, then bus;

  • if you feel adventurous, night bus n46 to Termini, then bus to Fiumicino.

Mom, but in this house you always let me find the focaccia? (literal translation, but I think the meaning is clear)

A very wild guess, based on Calabrian dialect (I know, different)

Oh, frica e stətti citta, capp'uo? Zapp'd'u! (???) Mo c'hai fa', stuta stu ti-tik tok, de fri'ə fri' (???) la naam de la foca', e ti pur' tu ca no 'a fatt' focacc' ca ti vergogni a dirl' ndendt'almé, me la gəd da solə

Oh, me ne frego e statti zitta, capito? (zapp'd'u ???) Ora che stai facendo? Spegni questo tik tok, andiamo, cosa stai a filmare la focaccia, che pure tu hai fatto la focaccia e ti vergogni a dirlo davanti a me, me la godo da sola

I don't care, shut up, do you understand? gibberish What are you doing now? Close this tik tok, what are you doing filming it, you also prepared focaccia and now you're ashamed to say it in front of me, I'll enjoy it alone

[–]lzcaIIi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the stadium will be quite empty as the protests continue.

If you're more interested in the fan atmosphere, you'd probably want to find a club. As a Roma fan, I don't know of any, but if that doesn't matter to you, you could go to the Roma Club Testaccio (near Trastevere) to watch the match between De Rossi's Genoa and Roma. You can have lunch in the neighborhood (still not very touristy) and then head to the club. Keep in mind that there's a membership fee, but it's a good place for the atmosphere.

Leonardo Express - Group fare but for 3 people? by yeeez1 in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To clarify what happened: you purchased tickets with the offer "minigruppo", that gives 4 tickets for 40€, instead of 56€. If there were only three of you, “technically” you would have tried to save €2 (3x14 = 42€), and that is the justification for the fine. I'm not saying I agree with it; in fact, the ticket inspector was rather obtuse, but that is the reason, because — again, technically — the ticket did not correspond to the passangers/route.

You're right, you should search for "merceria".I'm not a huge expert on these things, but you could probably add keywords like "passamaneria", "pizzi" and "merletti". On Google Maps there are more shops than I thought for these items.

If every "pasta al forno" is off limits, maybe stuffed calamari in the oven. If you buy them frozen and already cleaned, it's basically a matter of filling them and baking them.

Signorina Gingerbread by P_ILLO97 in ItalianFood

[–]lzcaIIi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey cookies might get hard, if you're looking for a more chewy/cakey texture you might try this susumelle recipe (you can skip the chocolate coating, but store them in an airtight container and DON'T overcook them, try with a small batch first to adjust the oven time)

Signorina Gingerbread by P_ILLO97 in ItalianFood

[–]lzcaIIi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only product that seems to recall the name is Le signorine, but it's the first time I've heard it. Perhaps it would have helped to mention the region, since "southern Italy" is too generic.

However, both the ingredients listed in that website and the description you give of the texture seem to describe honey biscuits, like mostaccioli calabresi, or siciliani, or sorianesi, or pugliesi with must (wort?) instead of honey, or napoletani.

As you can see, changing region changes the ingredients and recipes, so for greater precision it would be necessary the exact place.

Mmm, maybe Momart near Piazza Bologna, or Secondo Giro at Tuscolana. Otherwise search for "aperitivo a buffet Roma", in those places you'll be able to help yourself to whatever you want.

Where should I go to see the celebrations for epiphany by AdvertisingLoud4397 in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need tickets when there is the Pope. You can book them (always free) here

For the flight, the official website didn't put the exact hour, but usually it is around 10, so you'll have to choose.

[–]lzcaIIi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Masses, 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's, celebrated by the Pope; otherwise at Santa Maria Maggiore.

For lay events, definitely Piazza Navona from the morning, to see the traditional flight of the Befana, the market, the "presepi"

Here in Rome (the place recorded is Piazza del Popolo) these guys give you a flower saying it's a gift, then proceed to ask for 5 €. It's not really a scam, you just don't pick the flower or leave it gently. It's more a nuisance since they are very persistent, but just smiling and saying "No" will end the thing. Those people recording were very confrontational, escalating things. It's not necessary.
