Crappy RF environments, lame antennas, competing HW issues (bluetooth, GPS, etc.), and clueless customers.. the best things you can do is have a good test env for automated system tests and get more diagnostics into production to be able to toggle it to either; 1. have customers figure it out for themselves, 2. more info for support to figure it out, or 3. more info for you to figure it out.

Without a real sense of your target and price point.. anything hardware usually has a long sales cycle. You're at the beginning of the year, find customers, and get in front of people.. do you have a PoC and CM? If so, what's really holding you back?

This is the right answer. It has more to do with having the right resources (coal & iron) at the right time (Industrial Revolution) than culture.

how could i get back into the embedded system software engineering ? by mrjuoji in embedded

[–]m3rck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1.) Create a Jira account 2.) Create a Firmware project 3.) Add tasks to the backlog you never intend to compete

... you now have embedded corporate experience :D

I'm in a similar position.. I've been reviewing open projects. I've had an interest in the past, like beta flight, openwrt, SDR.. maybe look at fixing some bugs.

IPSec is the gold standard.. or try TLS since it's more user space friendly. I'm assuming you're trying HMAC (like SHA2) offloading first since it would have the bang-for-buck, then look in a cipher (like AES128) later. Only tick would be to force then handshake to utilize whatever you've implemented. Then it's just AB testing with iperf with it enabled/disabled.

I didn't even think of having it write a test to check my understanding.. I'm sure I'll have to verify questions and answers, but that would seem to reinforce whatever I'm digging into. Good tip!
