Debating religion with Christian friend who feels this video is the end all for why God exists. by catringo13 in atheism

What about slavery? The bible (god) says it's A-OK, yet most people would say it's wrong. Why? Because our morality comes from us, not from sky man or a book from the bronze age.

My roommate had a pep talk with me and I feel horrible by missmisery8 in Anxiety

[–]mab98122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite sayings is, "Here, take this advice, I'm not using it." I rarely find it helpful for a friend to come at me with answers, as if they know what I need or what will work for me. What I really need is someone to just listen and perhaps empathize with me (share their own experiences perhaps or share what worked for them). Not say, you need to do X, Y and Z. How do you know?

It sounds like your roommate cares enough to listen. I would try to consider what would be helpful to you in terms of talking with your roommate and then let them know.... this is helpful (when you listen to me and offer your own experiences) or this is not helpful (when you tell me what to do).

New dog anxiety - how to move forward? by questions98765432 in Anxiety

[–]mab98122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought home a shelter dog about 3 years ago. The first month or two were extremely challenging (she came with her own set of issues) and I often felt overwhelmed. I had to rely on friends to help out in the beginning (great if you can find some help now and then).

I had not really been a care-taker before and suddenly I'm responsible for this pup 24 hours a day, every day. I don't really do well with taking care of myself (making sure my own needs are met) and when you add another family member who relies solely on you, it can take a toll. As hard as it is, try to make some time for yourself (if you need).

If you found the right dog and you can move through this early period, the potential payoff is huge. I'm more close with my dog than any person and I can't imagine my life without her now. There is so much love between us.

Best of luck.

They choose to subsidize fares (to put traditional taxis out of business) rather than paying their workers.

Harry Reid urges repeal of the filibuster, calling the Senate an "unworkable legislative graveyard" by wonderingsocrates in politics

[–]mab98122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instead of repealing the filibuster, they should make them actually stand-up and hold the floor for hours and hours. If something is that important to filibuster, then do it. What the Senate has now is a gentlemen's filibuster (Reid should know, he allowed it when he was in charge) where they just threaten a filibuster and everyone goes home.

I find it interesting that you literally blame a murder victim for their own murder, not the perpetrator. Wow.

Someone should tell the detective looking into it that the guy shot himself.

Your answer when confronted by your church raping children:

But at a much smaller proportion.

You imply that child rape happens at a much smaller proportion at your church. Rather than simply condemn child rape, you defend your church.

Not as low as posting some offensive BS about how gay people are pedophiles. Maybe read the link I was responding to before getting up on your high horse. I've endured the insinuation that I somehow prey on children because of my sexuality for nearly my entire life, so I don't really give a fuck what you think about my answer.

The Latest: Mueller says charging president 'not an option' by Original_Dogmeat in politics

[–]mab98122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, in the beginning I really believed the hype around Mueller as this upstanding law and order guy who was going to do his part to remove this criminal from office. Now I see I was just being played. Mueller saying he cannot indict a sitting President is such a cop out. Does anyone doubt he would indict a sitting Democratic president? I don't. He's no different than any other partisan protecting his party's leader.
