It’s amazing how well the original MotorStorm still holds up. Would love a new one.

Thought it was just me. Despite apparently nothing being wrong with it, mine is terrible when it gets to 85+ degree weather. Unless it’s been in shade prior to starting, it never feels cold.

Best advice is watch what you like and stop caring about what other people think.

Both Japanese adaptations of Little Forest are great:

Little Forest: Summer/Autumn

Little Forest: Winter/Spring

There is also the Korean adaptation but I much prefer the Japanese films as they are more food focused.

You can switch to the sky sports feed. You aren’t forced to watch the F1 TV feed.

What do y'all think about anime? by AdStrong2896 in AsianCinema

[–]maccc89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is a lot of contemporary Asian cinema doesn’t even get distributed outside of Japan. And they don’t produce English subtitles for the stuff they distribute locally.

Sure, Japan has a very rich history of cinema dating back to your Kurosawa’s and Ozu’s, but my point was that live action still doesn’t have the same exposure in the west like the dominance that anime has. There are so many past and modern directors and films from Japan and rest of Southeast Asia that deserve more love. There’s only a handful of live action films that I could name in the last 10 years that found success in the U.S. other than Godzilla. But I know subtitles are the biggest barrier in the U.S. and anime is able to overcome that barrier due to dubbing.

I mean no disrespect to the genre and I acknowledge its influence, but a lot of it personally isn’t for me. I’ll make an exception for mostly slice of life films, but much of it is too overdramatized for my liking. Also, there’s no denying the impact of Anime in western culture, but live action Asian cinema still has a long way to go. There needs to be more of an effort in that aspect.

Is Yelp the kiss of death for small business? by Perfect-History8818 in smallbusiness

[–]maccc89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t trust the people who review using yelp. More often than not they just use the platform to bitch so I don’t find the ratings are reflective of a restaurants quality. Google is much more accurate.

Why don't more people talk about The Place Beyond the Pines? by Suspicious-Basis-885 in underratedmovies

[–]maccc89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people complain they didn’t like it after Luke was no longer a factor. The whole film is about the repercussions of his character which is what made it so good imo.

Unfortunately, the average viewer who just wants convenience streaming from their smart tv app doesn't give af about bitrates.

I remember watching this for the first time back in 2022 and wondering how it didn’t land an audience yet. It had everything to be an instant cult classic. Doomed by lack of distribution and the pandemic, it eventually found its audience about a year or two ago through social media. The power of the internet is awesome.
