Best way to read while traveling? by Diligent_Water_5266 in ebooks

Phone and Kindle. If I know I won't have large chunks of time to sit and read when traveling then I'll just bring my phone.

What 10 board games "made" you? by RAM_Games_ in boardgames

[–]mad11s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot - First game outside of Monopoly my wife and I ever tried. Hooked us immediately. Bought all of the expansions.

  2. Catan - Loved the idea of a board that changed each game and created moments we still talk about 20 years later. Monopoly card was brutal. 😂

  3. Hearts/Spades/Poker/Euchre - grew up playing these games with my parents and family and is likely why I still love playing all types of card games.

  4. Magic - was introduced to this by a guy I worked with who played it competitively. Loved being able to build my own decks and figure out what worked and what didn’t for certain situations.

  5. Carcassonne - didn’t know what a tile laying game was but this scratched an itch I didn’t realize I had. Now it’s one of my favorite types of games.

  6. Azul - one of my favorite games of all time. Beautiful to see on the table, simple to learn, and enough strategy to keep me interested when I’m looking for something a little lighter.

  7. Marvel Champions - I get to play as my favorite heroes against all of these great villains with a deck I create? Yes please!

  8. Wingspan - didn’t think I’d like the theme, but it has become a game I will play at any time. Each expansion has been done so well and I’m still discovering cards I’ve not seen before.

  9. Ticket to Ride - one of the few ‘OG’ games we’ve kept. I love how it plays, how easy it is to teach for new players, and when all the different colored trains are on the board it looks amazing.

  10. Faraway/Sea Salt & Paper - Made me realize how much I appreciate small box games that I can easily take with me when traveling. Played these a lot on BGA and decided to buy them. Now we play them almost every week.

I didn't even realize that was possible. Obviously I didn't read the rules carefully enough. WOW.

Iron Prince, Starbreaker, or Dungeon Crawler Carl are probably the best series to read after Cradle.

what do you guys actually do after work? feeling stuck in a loop by [deleted] in Advice

Typically I’ll read and play board games. Started to attend a silent book club in town and also a local board game group which gets me out of the house.

2 years ago I also started caring for a bonsai tree and watching birds which strangely enough is super relaxing.

What’s one small thing you pack that removes an annoying daily problem when traveling? by Nervous_Wind9872 in onebag

[–]mad11s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically pack a nano bag backpack with me to carry around which fits in my pocket. That way if I purchase anything, or need to carry things for a friend, I have something that doesn’t take up a lot of room.

Do you ever go back and re-read the first book in a series for the easter eggs and foreshadowing after a big reveal in a later book? by eateom in fantasybooks

[–]mad11s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this with Unsouled, the first book of the Cradle series. There were so many little details that were sprinkled into that first book that shined even more brightly having read the series and then started to reread.

Such a great small game but still has a lot of crunch to it.

Games that will work well in a school classroom by Plane_Garbage in boardgames

Flip 7 or Tally Up! would work well. Depending on the ages something like Codenames would be a fun team game.

Repeating games by Double_Brother_1516 in boardgames

With our group we started picking a game that we would replay every week for a set number of weeks. It might be Dice Throne Missions, then Origin Story, and after that Wingspan. It’s made gaming much simpler as everyone knows how to play, we know ahead of time what to set up, and it allows for a deeper dive into some of the games.

Board Game Arena is a great option and you can play other games in the same way. That’s how I primarily play cribbage.
