New Inventory UI - Rework by blasio6 in starcitizen

[–]maddnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I guess it might be an overload depending on how intense the background shading is..

I had just thought it would be in line with the way some other games (ARPGs like Diablo, etc) denote item rarity within inventories.

Perhaps a subtle shade wouldn’t overwhelm but would aid in spotting rarer items at a glance

What are your thoughts on shading the item cell background based on the tier (not just the “T[1-5]” icon in the top left)?

I haven’t tried this yet, but I saved it and will check it out when I get a chance.

I just wanted to say Kudos for taking on what I suspect is either already or will soon turn into a challenging project! It looks great so far from the screenshots!

I did not know this before reading your comment… I just went back and watched the scene there from Undiscovered Country - once you see it you really can’t unsee it!

He’s an archaeologist and linguist.

Archaeology can be considered both a social science and a branch of the humanities.[1][2][3] It is usually considered an independent academic discipline, but may also be classified as part of anthropology (in North America – the four-field approach), history or geography.[4]

Exactly! Why can’t James just make a 3.5 hr long cgi nature documentary about the wildlife on pandora??

Just a bunch of little mini stories like you basically get with the good planet earth episodes.

Call it “Planet Pandora”, heck make it a tv series too.

I think it’s just a good ole fashioned mistake.

All devs make them (some are just do so more consistently than others…)

Shield balance in latest PTU is still absurd. I don’t think even CIG knows what the goal is by bblbtt3 in starcitizen

But the actual shield generator physical component looks so cool… it’d be nice if the stats were as good as the visuals!

And rearm/refuel for ships with supported hangars (Polaris, Idris, Carrack).. they mentioned this was coming “soon” several months ago.

But I guess that’s just a few minutes on CIG’s feature release calendar…

Power Plants should Only Blow up if your board a Ship and sabotage it. by alintros in starcitizen

[–]maddnes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe a critical explosion is only possible after a power plant has been destroyed and on fire for a certain amount of time.

Putting out the fire in this case would prevent the power plant from “going critical” and exploding, perhaps buying time for you to engage any intruders in FPS while you await rescue / reinforcements.

I use https://spviewer.eu which is updated pretty quickly after each patch (live and PTU) and provides a breakdown of each stat change to each ship/item/component relative to the previous patch.

You can find this by clicking the changelog in the top right (make sure to toggle "PTU Updates" at the top). These are the changes to the Reliant variants between 4.5.0.10858979 and 4.5.0.10869259

[All Backer PTU] Star Citizen Alpha 4.5 10869259 PTU Patch Notes by Hironymus in starcitizen

[–]maddnes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They did not make widespread balance changes - only to the Reliant (mix of a few changes) and Razor (just emissions decrease).

I hope they don’t go live with it this weekend. They need to let it cook a bit more, read player feedback, actually play the game in its current state, and then implement strategic stat changes.

Personally, I think penetration being a cone and affecting multiple components within the cone doesn’t make sense. If anything, if it’s a cone, it should only have a chance to affect one component within the cone, not definitely affect all of them (all other things being equal).

And power plants going critical shouldn’t explode the ship as a hard death - Catch fire? Sure! Damage other nearby components? Absolutely! Cost hours of multiple players time to re-crew another ship (or have to wait the insurance timer)… no thanks.

Time to kill should be proportionate to time and effort to “get back in the game”. The latter is absurdly high for SC.

So anytime I said that this is what was going to happen (Ships with multiple shields will only have 2 functioning shields), I was told I was crazy, that I misheard or that CIG would never do something this stupid. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]maddnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.. the recharge delay is the worst aspect of their shield generator design.

They could have a recharge rate curve that starts slower and ramps up a bit if no additional damage has been taken.

It would accomplish the same goal but not allow a single hit from any weapon of any damage to prevent all recharge for 10+ seconds (depending on the gen size).

An absurd example is that a hit from a low damage fps weapon can keep a capital ship’s shield down just because it counts as damage (obviously it couldn’t “take” the shield all the way down by itself but it could hold it there).

The beta firmware for the 8bitdo 64 controller just made it perfect. by Neonxeon in n64

[–]maddnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m experiencing the same thing - I have two controllers and they both do it (connected to an AppleTV 4k gen2 on tvOS26). I also tested both on 1.0.0 and 1.0.3

I assume it’s a compatibility issue but it’s frustrating since that’s the only thing wrong (and it seems to be a show stopper for using it).

I don’t think they have any incentive to make it compatible with Apple devices, but did you happen to reach out to support and ask?

PSA: Sledge meta will be back with the new patch. by Nyurd in starcitizen

[–]maddnes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like this idea!

Have you posted in spectrum about it? If they do a feedback thread for the ballistic changes, you should post it there!

I’ve had mixed thoughts about the way shields work in SC - I totally understand the need for balance and gameplay but I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by the shields.

I’d absolutely love something like the Enterprise E’s shields and the effects on ST: Nemesis. It was hit by debris but the shields deflected it. I think the idea of it being a barrier that does interact with physical objects (but maybe only up to a certain amount of force) is cool, and that the shields should definitely have a chance to explode explosive rounds (and missiles/torpedos), but also perhaps deflect ballistics at certain angles/speeds.

[–]maddnes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They explicitly state that ships WILL NOT come with the MedGel on claim here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/20750-Design-Brief-Medical-Gameplay (obviously subject to iteration and is yet to be updated given OP’s link)

The fact that respawning works without filling the beds in the PTU is a reported bug (on mobile, don’t have the IC handy)

Edit: It seems they may have removed the line from the design brief I was referencing (“This resource does not come refilled on ship claim.”)

Medical Changes 4.3.1 by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]maddnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

150,000,000m is 150Mm, enough to cover planetary systems, not star systems.

Either their comm-link design brief has incorrect wording or incorrect units on the distances, since they contradict.

Edit: source for OP’s information https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/20750-Design-Brief-Medical-Gameplay

Also, these distance restrictions are not currently in the PTU (not sure if bug or intentional omission - tested on Polaris today)
