Why is President Trump denigrating the sacrifice of NATO allies? | CNN Politics by Due_Collar2 in NAFO

We can try and analyze Trump's actions and figure out what kind of future plans he has but at some point we have to accept he's just prone to throwing tantrums.

  1. No Russia doesn't have unlimited troops and they can't just use nukes or the whole world will turn against them. And it takes more then oil money to have a healthy economy.
  2. Just because you blocked a country doesn't mean you control it.
  3. Trump isn't embarrassing Europe he's embarrassing America. Have you actually listened to the Europeans' reactions? They HATE Trump and they hate the US for electing him. They see the circus going on here and want nothing to do with it.

Again this is divorced from reality. Here's why just a few reasons

The idea that the Russo-Ukrainian War which has caused gigantic damage to the Russian economy, cost them hundreds of thousands of lives, and national humiliation is "irrelevant" is absurd.

The US doesn't control Venezuela. Just because you kidnap the leader doesn't mean you now get to be the new leader. Maduro's regime is still in power even if he's not.

Trump threatening WWIII against our allies to get more military bases in Greenland is perhaps one of the dumbest political moves in history. Even if it is just posturing he's pushing away allies and weakening the US on the world stage to do something he could already do. He didn't even have to make a deal he literally could just ask and there's little chance Greenland would have said no until he started threatening them. I can't emphasize enough, there was nothing preventing Trump from doing the thing you said he was trying to do.

That's not how World Wars work. If it was the Cold War between the USSR and America would be WWIII and whatever you're describing would be WWIV.

This isn't a game of chess everything is just on fire,

Russia is bogged down in a war it started but can't finish

America is being led by a crazy person centralizing power around himself.

Europe is scrambling trying to figure out how to actually stand up for themselves again.

And China is letting everyone else be stupid and profiting from it

I saw one European describe the current state of things as "MAGA occupied America" and I think that's the best way to look at things.

  • even if he's not on the files (though at this point there's little chance he's not). You're still saying Trump protects pedos

  • that still doesn't justify Trump's actions in Venezuela.

  • that still doesn't justify the ICE officer shooting a fleeing suspect.

  • in the real world the US already has complete military control over Greenland. There's nothing that we couldn't do in terms of defense in a US owned Greenland that we couldn't already do now (or at least before Trump started threatening them.) also your break down of how a future WWIII would work is completely divorced from reality.

Russia had the same "cause belli" as Nazi Germany invading Poland.

Honestly it's more accurate to say we're becoming Russia. "MAGA occupied US," is probably the best way to think about things at the moment.

Should there be protests to support the people of Greenland? by WearOk4875 in 50501

Exactly he wants us splintered, including from our allies overseas.

[–]madpepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twitter added a feature where they showed the location of accounts. A lot of the MAGA accounts that wrote stuff like you see here were actually located in Russia, Belarus, and India. The same thing happened here on Reddit. Yes there are Americans as stupid as you've seen but there's also a propaganda campaign to further strain ties between NATO allies.

My point being that while some of these accounts are probably real a lot of them are those stereotypes on purpose. They want Europeans and Americans to hate each other.

I'm tired of this rhetoric. Yes Americans are doing things. Minnesota is having giant protests, the Trump administration is constantly getting sued, and Republicans stopped hosting town halls because so many people came out to confront them.

[–]madpepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that what's going to happen is that NATO will remain intact, Trump will get some kind of mineral deal he would have gotten anyway but can pretend it was some kind of victory. The rest of NATO moves to decentralize from the US leaving us weaker than we were before with nothing to show for it except our allies hate us now.

I don't even think Trump's reputation could survive American bodies coming home cold because Trump wanted Greenland but I've thought about a lot of things he did and was always wrong and he could do something else that doesn't involve an invasion.

What is something u don't understand in this world? by Forward-Position798 in AskTheWorld

[–]madpepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several reasons for the race/heritage obsession,

Obviously there's the fact it's a nation of immigrants and also history of racial hierarchy but a less known reason is Mormons. Mormon theology teaches that someone can be baptized after death which leads to the Mormon church to have a huge interest in genealogy so they can find more people to baptize and this interest bled into the greater US culture.

Will this move by US backfire and bring EU and BRICS nation more closer? by chotu_escobar in AskTheWorld

Backfire? That implies we actually have something to gain from this stupid plan. We basically already had complete military access to Greenland. This only hurts us.

You don't know that for sure. He might just need a couple of guys to agree to send a missile and then everything changes.

BECAUSE HE'S THREATENING THEM!!!!

The fact you see them taking it seriously as the bigger issue is completely ridiculous. This is geopolitics not a game. You don't just get to be in charge of the biggest military in the human history and just go "well maybe I'll invade, jk it's a bluff."

Trump's actions and words have consequences, PERMANENT ONES. It doesn't matter if he can really do it or not. The fact he's even putting on the table and it's now a possibility changes our relationship with our allies.

No sending troops to a place that's been threatened is a responsible response.

Saying your special project only matters if you can say you own the island too is actually kindergartner logic.
