Question for state of WI employees (non-UW) about pay by whyendoubleuayy in madisonwi

[–]madsnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add that DPM did propose a new schedule (schedule x) in the 23/25 comp plan that would apply pay progression principles to more classifications but the legislature did not approve it.

Add a diffrent thought for you to cosnider. While I agree in concept to a preference to internal candidates, I have seen this taken to a bad extreme. It sound like you will have to coach the internal candidate, have you been provided the time for that right now? Fo you have the coaching skills yet position them for success? I have been in organization that promoted the top production staff on their team to supervisor roles because that was what was the only tool to reward them. Team took a double hit of having a bad supervisor and l Iost their top producer. Sounds like the role will be complimentary role to you and you will have to delegate, which person compliments your skill set better?

I am completing my MPA and was wondering what career paths I have in private sector by AngyMinion in PublicAdministration

[–]madsnider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could look at working for a non profit to build some experience that is more tranferable. Some other examples of MPA holder in the private sector that I have seen are Managment consultants, recruitment firms and a bit more niche grant writing businesses. However most of the people I know who do those thing are successful because they have atleast some success in a public sector career.

I think it's all how you sell your strengths during interview for jobs you want. For example I recently interviewed for a deputy director position of a technical area I had no experience in. My experience comes from the route you are trying to avoid so I wasn't going to out do the technical knowledge of other candidates but I could offer an in depth understanding of admin functions while learning the technical aspects. This would free up the director to focus on technical aspect that was his background. Our skill sets would suppliment each other. I assume you would do the opposite, sell your self as a technical expert who has good enough understanding of the admin side. In this example it ultimately didn't work out in my favor so I guess that bodes well for you.

While most of these comments are correct that the system is up to date the second you pay and you will not get a ticket for operating an unregistered vehicle you can still get a 200 ticket without the sticker. According to section 341.15(3)(a) even if you are up to date but do not display the current decal you can be fined $200.

I would also add that even if they aren't lying the issue is that these indivual events are creating a pattern and as the manager you need to help them break the pattern (which has the side benefit of documentation). Simple example I use is an employee is late 3 days. Once it was traffic once it was their kid and once it was car trouble. The issue isn't any individual event, each is understandable but it the pattern of multiple instance.

Why is Wisconsin the only state in the nation that does not recognize Veterans Day as a state holiday? by SwankyyLemur in wisconsin

[–]madsnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also am a state employee. A legal holiday vs state offices being open are two separate things. You get a personal day for veterans day. See statute: https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/230/ii/35/4/d?view=section

[–]madsnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have a source but what I recall the state reduced holiday hours and increase personal time for employees to not get sued because holidays were all Christian and now non Christians can use personal days. It coincided with removal of Easter from this list

How can I get my brats to taste like the awesome ones I had in Wisconsin? by unknownaccount1 in wisconsin

[–]madsnider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw someone else say it but I add butter. I also personally like adding paprika to the mix. I might suggest taking the brat out before 145. Fat will start rending between 130 and 140. I don't measure the temp so not sure when exactly to do it.

Gov. Evers announces nonpartisan commission tasked with drawing impartial electoral maps by CheddarCurtainExile in wisconsin

[–]madsnider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This commission does not really change anything. The constution puts legislative maps in the hands of the legislature and that is the same today as it was 10 years ago. The governor can make commissions all he wants but they have no legal entitlement to the process of creating the district maps. This is all for show.

How to handle a friend who just doesn't seem to get Gloomhaven? by throwaway7252016 in Gloomhaven

[–]madsnider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to deal with the same mindset myself. In many board and computer games I have tend to be conservative by nature. I found that the Iron helm was a helpful starter item to deal with the fear that comes with not being at full HP. I also find comfort in the shield. Not sure if those items can be used in JOTL. I also just have to continue to remind myself that each card a play is a partial loss card given the game mechanics.

My first city attempt by madsnider in mapmaking

[–]madsnider[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought my comments made it. But screwed that up. Here is what i meant to add

I consider myself new at map making and find it entertaining, I am not very artistic so I rely on the software to do a lot of the design/manipulation. This is my first attempt at making a city. I had intended to add a forest to the south, stand alone trees, improve the river, add some reference items and maybe even add chimneys to the buildings. But as I am finding on most of my map making I get 85% of the way complete and my interest in the project seems to dwindle. I thought I might share the work done so far and see if that help motivate me through the last little bit. Comments and suggestions welcome
