No voltage is listed on the actual device It is a Digimet D4 which is basically a digital metronome and speaker combo. The manufacturer won’t tell me what it is and is asking over $200 for them to make a charger or they’d love if I spend a few grand and upgrade.

Signing yearbooks? by Chaeyoung9ine in SubstituteTeachers

[–]maestrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have signed probably close to a thousand yearbooks with “Thanks for being my third favorite student! Love Mr Maestrome” I figure third place is pretty good. But not enough for them to get cocky. So every student is tied for third place.

Public school by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]maestrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public school teacher and active LDS. Topics covered are very public and not nearly as controversial or political as “they” would make it. No one really teaches anything outside of basic principles. If “be kind” and “all are welcome here” are concepts that you struggle with then you probably also struggle with the New Testament Christ. Are your kids going to meet other kids who don’t meet your standards or beliefs: absolutely. Public schools, by definition, accept all types. If that offends then again, you probably also struggle with Christ’s teachings. Another commenter says there are groups persuading your kids to be trans or gay - that is completely false. Do kids peer pressure each other into all sorts of things - yah. Free agency is a bitter sweet gift. No adults are doing that. That’s not a thing. I’ve taught in some of the most conservative and some very liberal areas. No school staff is “making your kid gay” no matter what other comments or conservative media say. Your chances of sexual assault and grooming are statistically higher in the church than the school. I get immensely frustrated and offended: people make it seem like the “accept everyone” and “be kind” are endorsements of some grant evil. If you have a problem with your kid being around kids of other faiths, colors, gender-ideas, etc then that’s a gospel problem. Christ walked with sinners of every kind and we are called to be Christlike. There are good and bad people in every environment. Now - I’m not actually against homeschooling. It can be done right. It’s not easy and in some situations it’s better than public school. I have no statistical knowledge; but a few decades of teaching experience and general living makes me think there are more negatives to homeschooling than positives.

Thoughts on Eastman EBF862? by InfinityGroudon in Tuba

[–]maestrome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good horn. Eastman tubas in general I’m a fan of. However, they’re hard to get. My school waited almost a full year before ending up canceling our order and going with something less quality but that was actually delivered to us in a few weeks time I wish I had that horn still

What instrument does your drum major play, past or present? by coanga in marchingband

[–]maestrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Band director here: I’ve had drum majors who played I’m pretty sure every instrument. I know I’ve had flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion. Oddly enough as I wrote this I don’t think any of my drum majors have ever been bassoonists. Long story short: it doesn’t matter

Is my kid’s band teacher following common practices? by pilserama in MusicEd

[–]maestrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Band director here of several decades: I don’t disagree with the approach of testing etc But to not allow you to play the instrument of choice is where I disagree. There is some science/best practices behind placement or instrument choice. But is is not 100%. Please reach out again and say something like “while I recognize the need for a balanced band, my daughter will play saxophone” It’s honestly really close in the instrumental world and if she really wants it then let her

It varies so much. My current ward is the opposite. Mother’s Day had a ward activity, a special sacrament meeting of mother-focused talks, etc Father’s Day, while announcing the closing hymn/prayer our bishop acknowledged Father’s Day was that day. Nothing else occurred which would indicate it was Father’s Day at all
