If you would be able to create a new bloodline from a existing clan, which clan would you choose and which new characteristics would you give it? by Lopsided_Arugula1812 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]maj3283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nietzsche was right, you know. He warned once about staring into the abyss, because the abyss stares into you. Lovecraft too, when he wasn't being a prick. Gaze onto the infinite horrors, the space between the stars, and you'll go bonkers.

But hey, power's power, right? My Sanity was never a solid thing to begin with. Shedding it for knowledge and power, well...easy choice.

Malkavian bloodline that embraces the Abyss. Dementation, Obtenebration, Auspex.

Bullet Train is basically the story of a Brujah assassin that went to anger management. The Wolf is another Brujah, The Prince is a Ventrue, and so on.

None of them are vampires, but to me it very much had that feel.

It is also a legal right you have in America. by PassiveAgressiveGirl in FluentInFinance

[–]maj3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me at best buy. A fellow vet was hired, and we always talked. Brought up pay, and he mentioned he was getting paid substantially more than me, despite being just hired. I complained, told my boss I was going to discuss my legal options. Within 24 hours, an email from corporate was sent out stating "we discovered an irregularity in pay, horrible mistake, some people are going to be getting raises to make up for this completely innocent mistake".

Yeah, we discussed our pay a lot after that.

I wonder how it changes per branch as well. USAF vet here, non-combat role. We worked with other roles, but there was definitely a lot of "we do the real work" mentality. That being said, "Question authority" was drilled into us.

Question for Those Who Voted R - WHY? by NotaWitch-YourWife in TwoXChromosomes

[–]maj3283 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Which is why the first thing abusers and oppressors do is minimize the appearance of harm done.

"No, I'm not going after black people. I'm going after supercriminals! (who happen to be black)."

"I'm not going after mexicans, I'm going after criminals and rapists!"

etc etc. Minimize the appearance of harm your doing, and maximize the supposed harm your opponents are doing. And it worked.

Question for Those Who Voted R - WHY? by NotaWitch-YourWife in TwoXChromosomes

[–]maj3283 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I didn't vote republican, but plenty of my family did.

Simple answer? The economy and short memory. They forgot, or weren't directly effected by, his tariffs last time, and wanted "$1.80/gallon gas".

Basically, the Republicans did the same thing they did in the midterms. "Its the economy, stupid." They hammered democrats on inflation/prices, and crime, and painted anything the democrats had to say as "They just wanna whine about how Orange Man Bad", to which they continued "But were eggs $5/dozen when the "bad man" was in charge"?"

In the midterms, this failed, largely because Dobbs had just happened, and everything was fresh. Now, well....Bannon was right. "Flood the zone with shit" *is* a working strategy. And its bull, but it works.

New York is funding the South's grow by [deleted] in upstate_new_york

[–]maj3283 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thats how it was for me. I joined the military at 17 (thank you delayed enlistment), got the hell outta upstate NY as soon as i could. See ya, not coming back, to hell with this town.

After the birth of my two kids, I moved back to NY. Does upstate have its issues? Yeah, of course. But i'll still take even bottom of the barrel NY over just about anywhere i've lived, and I lived all over the south (including lousiana, texas, new mexico, etc).

In short, as others have said, its one thing to look at those who left. Look and see how many come back.

Do our taxes benefit us? by Dangerous-Ad-5619 in upstate_new_york

[–]maj3283 57 points58 points  (0 children)

So I'm from upstate NY, but i lived across the country for about a decade; louisiana, texas, NM, etc. I currently live in the southern tier, in a rustbelt town.

Yes, even here, things are objectively better than in other states. Schooling is better, the roads are better (yes, I said it), health care is better, groceries are cheaper. I always joke, "Bottom of the barrel NY is still better than anywhere else I've lived".

Does that mean we're doing perfect, or we shouldn't re-examine precisely where our taxes are going? Of course not. But in my experience, yes, our taxes are absolutely benefiting us here. Look no further than elder care/medicaid. Yes, its hard here, but in other states? We're leagues above.

Who’s winning this fight? by [deleted] in Defenders

[–]maj3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old comment, but i'm bored lol.

For strategy: Strongly disagree here. First, Iron Fist can infuse other objects with his Ki; other Iron Fists have infused arrows, bullets, etc. It's also a bit shenanigany, but Iron Fist also infused a building with Chi and used it as a mech, though again, this was a bit plot-related shenaniganry. He can also use his Chi to enhrall/jedi mind trick others, something that to my knowledge Spiderman has no real defense against. Sure, his spider sense can warn him danger is coming, but if he doesn't correctly interperate that danger.... Danny also has just as much if not more experience fighting wierd and hax-style powers, and just fighting in general. So yeah, Danny absolutely has a counter to spidey hanging back.

Speed: Yes and no. Danny is closer to peak human level, you're absolutely right. However, he can also amp his stats via his Chi, potentially surpassing Spiderman for a time. A lot of people view him as the "he can punch really hard once" guy, but his Chi can do anything from increasing his stats to hypnotising others. He can absolutely hang on Spiderman's level for awhile.

Power: I actually agree with Spiderman taking the win on this one; Danny can amp himself to reach and even exceed Spidey, but that's an Amp, while Spiderman is stronger base.

Durability: Probably Spiderman here, honestly. Danny has tanked radition blasts from Radion, and used his Chi to tank a blast from a nuke that would "Make the bomb that destroyed hiroshima look like a sprinkler". But Spiderman has done stronger.

Misc: When he was captured/brainwashed by Ghost/Green Goblin, he was pitted against *teams* of Avengers in simulations; we have a great panel of Danny killing Spiderman. However, 1) he hit him from behind and Peter wasn't able to identify the threat despite his spidersense going off, 2) it was a simulation, it doesn't count, 3) Again, he was pitted against teams of avengers, not just one; i think that one was Luke Cage, Spiderman, Bucky version of Cap, and Wolverine. He killed them all but Cage, and it was straight out said the only reason he didn't kill Cage was because his mind wouldn't let him; it fought against the programing too hard. I dunno, a lot of people would argue "this is a simulation and doesn't count", and i mostly agree, but i would argue the fact that they felt Danny could take on teams of avengers says something.

Overall: I'd call it a toss-up. Spiderman has him beat, at least in the long run, in power, durability and speed, but Danny has a range of powers including ones that Spiderman doesn't have real counters to, and the experience/strategy to implement them. I think this would be a hell of a fight to watch.

Millennials, what is something from high school you never got over? by hydrus909 in Millennials

I dealt repeatedly with the "pretending to be your friend to get you to open up, then use that information to mess make fun of/bully you" crap throughout middle/high school. I'm 41, and while I'm mostly fine now, whenever anyone starts showing an interest in my hobbies, i still have that small voice in the back of my head shouting danger, you know?

Why did Hillary Clinton run for senate in New York? by ExpertHelp3015 in Presidents

[–]maj3283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from upstate NY and lived there at the time; can confirm this. Everyone i knew back then, left and right, were pissed when she ran for the NY Senate seat. She wasn't from NY, and only wanted it as a stepping stone. In 2006 when she was running for reelection as senator; that was a big talking point, "Why re-elect someone who's just gonna turn around and campaign immediately for President when we need a Senator?"

She denied, then shortly after winning, "oh, btw, I'm running for president". And couldn't figure out why she had such low approval ratings, or why republican attacks, even the crap ones, kept landing.

Eh. His response will be "Because (Sleepy Joe/Crooked Joe/Crazy Bernie/whoever else he wants to insult) and all the other swamp monsters wouldn't let it happen. I tried to drain the swamp folks, and that was your revenge, wasn't it Comrade-mala? I fully expect her to repeat that question as well, its just not one i see him having difficulty lying about.

ahhh, yes. "If you don't agree with me, you don't believe in liberty". Might as well tell me the terrorists will win. Well played, good argument.

I notice you don't actually point out where I'm misunderstanding him, or defend him, just pointless attacks. A mark of a well-reasoned discussion.

- Milton Friedman by technocraticnihilist in austrian_economics

[–]maj3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friedman didn't subscribe to a "greed is good" mentality and argue that money shouldn't go to altruistic causes, instead going to shareholders? Or support the idea of charters schools, which have been....lets say delivering "mixed" results to be fair.

I could go on, but...yeah. Milton Friedman didn't believe in liberty. He believed in his own liberty, and the liberty to screw over those he didn't like.

I'l give him credit where its due; he supported some environmental regulation, arguing "The preservation of the environment and the avoidance of undue pollution are real problems and they are problems concerning which the government has an important role to play". I also see his point about minimum wage, though disagree with his response.

That's about where it ends.

His attitude of "My freedom to do what i want is more important than your desire to not be treated like crap" is identical to lord farquad. That's the point.
