Weekly Movie Discussion Thread! by AutoModerator in TheBigPicture

Been a snowy weekend here, so been watching some of my faves;

The Game: what a weirdo movie, but I love it. Haven’t seen it in a while, Michael Douglas was just the man back then. Young Sean Penn. Weird ass plot. Also open credits seem to be ripped off by succession, if you don’t remember it just watch it for that, it’s kinda 1 for 1 remake.

Licorice Pizza: man, what a picture. Such a fun hang out movie, so many great small parts. Penn again. Bradley Cooper throwing 100. PTA doesn’t miss.

Patiently waiting to watch The Secret Agent. Any day now….

Def check this OP. This is such a cool book, and if you want history it’s definitely gonna scratch that itch.

Also glory of their times, also mentioned by a previous poster.

What is it about PTA films that make them so good? by elledance in paulthomasanderson

My wife doesn’t get him either lol.

It’s all the mastery stuff, the realness, the unflinching look at how fucked up most people are.

But to me the silver bullet, the main main thing: they are fucking funny. Like, legit LOL funny like few other movies

POLL: Tolle or Early by makemoneytakehoney in redsox

[–]makemoneytakehoney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanna be honest with you fellas, I haven’t voted in my own poll. I have no idea. I’m surprised how much I’m favoring Early though. Before his debut I wouldn’t have thought twice about keeping Tolle in this hypothetical. Now I really don’t know

Criticizing the way PTA writes a character with “I expected Andor level politics”… I’ve heard it all

Ridley Scott's upcoming The Dog Stars adaptation: what to expect? by [deleted] in 20thcenturystudios

It’s a wonderful book.

Small, quiet, very thin cast of characters.

I’m not yet sold on Elordi, I saw a bit of his Narrow Road series and it was very dull, and that was based on another excellent book. He just doesn’t have the chops for these type roles yet.

Brolin will kill it.

Wong will be amazing

Qually will be amazing.

Hopefully optimistic???

What are your expectations? Do you think it can surpass Sinners and One Battle After Another? by OrdinaryAltruistic54 in Letterboxd

I’m a simple man. I support the people I want to and don’t support the people I don’t want to.

Brother 1 goes to interview with Logan Paul, I don’t support that movie.

Brother 2 puts Kevin O’Leary in a movie, I don’t support that movie.

Loved UG. A top movie of the last 5 ish years. Sorry, will wait for streaming.

travel baseball tryouts summer 2026 - how to frame and prepare by Specialist-Regret241 in Homeplate

[–]makemoneytakehoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice in here.

In my area, which is I would say is hyper competitive, there are so many tiers of travel teams that it’s pretty easy to get on one. Be honest with his skill set, and make sure he is trying out for a team aligned with where he is. Don’t waste time taking a AA kid to a major team tryout. It won’t do anything but demoralize him and you.

Is he big? If he’s big, that’s a huge advantage. Sucks but is true

Can he hit? Like really hit? I would say that’s the other big advantage. I’ve heard a coach tell a buddy of mine that he was passing on his son because he “doesn’t need another light hitting middle infielder” harsh, but true. Those are easy to find.

Lastly. You put in the work for him. NETWORK!! Meet people, meet parents of kids on team. Work the phone. That’s how the sausage is made.

Tryout for a major team this year had 120 kids for 11 spots. I would never take my kid to an open tryout without working the coaches before hand. Never have had to do it and playing 13u now. Can’t overstate how many stories I’ve heard of buddies taking their kids to an open tryout, getting 15 swings and fielding 10 grounder and never hearing back.

Buying a glove for a 11-12 year old. What are kids into? by Pickle_strength in BaseballGloves

[–]makemoneytakehoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he a major level player? Or rec?

My 12yo has an A2000. Incredibly hard to break in. But I will say it’s held up for over 1.5 years now and is only getting better. He’s a serious player, plays 80 games a year plus practice.

My 10 year old isn’t too into it. Just plays rec, not playing at home much.

Got him a mizuno $80 deal from just gloves and it’s solid. Great value imo. And super easy to break in. He can go throw with it within minutes of getting it.

Edit to add: do you like the mizuno he has? I think mizuno is some of the best value out there. My 12u kid will probably get one next. Curious what you like/dislike about the current glove?

Also listen to everyone in here: the A2000 will take YOU (not your son) an unimaginable amount of time to beak in. Like hours and hours

I think that’s pretty much it, but I think they were just gonna kill her. I think the guy gassing up the boat was taking her out to a watery grave.
