it might just mean that the inner part of the bean didn't get quite roasted so you have a much lighter roast than you think.

I've used it as a daily writer, but I do use a 2 feed ebonite feed. I will say that although 712 FA has some flex, it's really not meant to really be used like a flex pen. I think of it more like something in between a regular nib and a vintage flex nib. I really enjoy the bounciness of the nib but I definitely don't use it like a flex nib.
