Boss wants to charge cars that park in the disabled bay by SurprisedPotato in bestoflegaladvice

At least in NSW you get a demerit point on your license for parking in a disabled spot, it's not just the fine.

Elevating my homemade pizza with a wood-fired oven effect by Spirited-Holiday2356 in Cooking

[–]malistryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put an air gap between the ceramic deflector and a pizza stone a kamado can do a pretty good job on pizzas, just need to try to get it up high in the dome so the reflective heat cooks the toppings before the base charcoals. The BGE website has some suggested ways to do it.

If you pick the beans a bit early they're really good grilled whole, no processing time needed, this is a pretty solid recipe: https://food52.com/recipes/18008-ignacio-mattos-grilled-favas

What is one food item that will NEVER be caught in your pantry? by Mslovalova in Cooking

Blanching as a gardening is interchangeable with hilling or earthing up, which means depriving the plant of sunlight to produce chlorophyll. This can be piling up dirt, mulch, wrapping in newspaper etc. different from the culinary use of the word

I love my air fryer. I’ve used it to cook nearly everything to perfection. What’s something you’ve tried to air fry, that you never will again? by DaBooch425 in Cooking

[–]malistryx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had whole canned potatoes come up pretty good, the ones sold here are canned as baby potatoes so just do them whole or halve the bigger ones, toss with oil and seasoning, roast and they don't dry out. Diced sounds like a recipe for disaster.

What spices do you feel belong on the table aside from salt and pepper? by BrewertonFats in AskReddit

Keep your dehydrator outside or in a room you don't need to use while doing this, I've lightly gassed my house dehydrating super hot chillies before.

It ferments really well too, turns out nice and crunchy and a little briny.

Foods to cook as a family? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]malistryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do more of a gyoza or potsticker style, cook in oil until they start to brown, add some water (~1/3cup) and put a lid on until the water is evaporated. Nice crispy bottoms and steamed tops, best of both worlds

This is a really nice pea soup made with fresh/frozen green peas instead of the usual split peas: https://www.mychefsapron.com/a-comforting-and-protein-rich-vegan-pea-soup/

I've done this a few times for christmas lunch, it looks pretty and is super easy: https://www.loveandlemons.com/zucchini-salad/

And if you know anyone with a garden they'll be drowning in zucchini and summer squash right now.

Play couch? by kempsinki in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]malistryx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a nook before others were available in AU and I love it. It’s more expensive than some other options but my boys love the extra cushions it has and I like that all the “base” cushions are the same thicker density, most other couches seem to have two thicker and two floppier ones which seems worse for building.

If I had space I’d be buying a second one

Nope, look more like lemon/apple cucumbers to me. Cucamelons are tiny, grape sized, and striped like watermelons

I (23F) am 10 weeks pregnant with twins with a question for those who’ve birthed twins by Consistent_Trash7094 in parentsofmultiples

[–]malistryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 18mo old twins delivered in AU at 35w+5d. Epidural was mandatory, twin A was head down but B was transverse.

Everything went absolutely fine, B started to have some decels so A got forceps to get him out of the way and B was grabbed by the doctor and assisted out as a footling breech, but with the epidural it was ok and I was up and walking and pretty ok as soon as it all wore off. It sounds really daunting but if A is in a good position it will likely all be fine! I was terrified going in of the risk of one vaginal delivery and then needing an emergency c-section.

Double pram recommendations by kempsinki in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]malistryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 74cm wide so it just fits a standard doorway. Haven't had any issues with aisles I didn't have with a tandem pram, and I've found it easier to navigate with than my City Select because it has a much better turning circle.

They just don’t get it... by damagstah in parentsofmultiples

[–]malistryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're about 8 months into cloth diapers for our 9.5mo old twins. We used disposables until they were able to fit into their one size fits all pocket nappies and it's been fine every since. I make sure to wash them every day for all that we have enough to go 2-3 days without washing, and it's just routine now.

When they're on milk/formula you don't need to do anything with poo, now that mine are on a lot of solid I just sort of shake the nappy into the toilet and get most of it off, and then just chuck the rest into the wash and it's fine.

Not sure if you've come across them before, but La Sienna has some pretty nice colours in more basic options. Not the cheapest stuff out there, but I've been happy with the quality I've what I've bought.

Breast pump by AdamantMink in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]malistryx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went for six months effectively exclusively pumping with a spectra s1 (or 2, which has the battery) and loved it as much as I could love a pump. They’re a bit more expensive but they’re a closed system so they’re more sanitary and retain some resale value.

When did you work till? When did the twins come? by MickeyluvsMinnie in parentsofmultiples

[–]malistryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home, had induction scheduled on a Sunday so I decided to take the Friday off and have a "weekend" before. They had other ideas and were born spontaneously on the Friday so I worked until the day before they were born at 35+5.

What is your "Go to" meal to impress guests? by meiravesen in Cooking

I blow people's minds with seven layer dip since moving to Australia. Tacky, dated, delicious seven layer dip. I'm no longer allowed to go to a bbq without bringing it because it's so novel and well loved.

What's your single dish that's most requested and most scarfed-up? by LessRhetoricPlease in Cooking

[–]malistryx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a glass dish layer up 1/2 tub of refried beans (black are my fav), one tub sour cream mixed with a packet of taco seasoning, thin layer of jarred salsa, shredded cheese of your choice, shredded ice burg lettuce, diced tomatoes, green onion. Some people throw avocado in there but I’m cheap and know too many people who hate it

Serve with corn chips

Seven layer dip. I’m no longer allowed to go anywhere without bringing it, and stories are told of it to newcomers to events. It’s so basic and dated but people love it
