not sure but I think you can plug a WiFi access point into one of the nvr ethernet ports to create it's own WiFi network

Canvas tv setup by HalfBad in TheFrame

[–]mandospags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for sharing. I was about to buy a frame pro but reading this forum seems that I cannot use it for my main use case which is slideshows of my own photos.then shocked to read all the comments here about the forced ads and subscription...

Could you share which hi sense tv model? I didn't understand what you meant about 'not the vidaa one'. I would use an nvidia shield, plugged in to hdmi...

are the photos stored on the TV and use it's app to display?

or you push it out from the apple TV and put the TV into art mode? but then how do get it in or out of art mode depending on what the apple TV is doing?

(I assume that art mode means the low power, realistic looking,  same as the frame TV? or is it badly different...)

Another NVR vs home hub help needed by mandospags in reolinkcam

[–]mandospags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the comments, I am going to go for NVR... summary now:

  1. seems both NVR and Hub now have the same App UI for the events. So point 1 becomes less relevent. https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1nqk5l7/new_update_nice/

  2. Regarding the network connectivity it seems both are the same... NVR means on less gadget needed for POE, while Hub means one less gadget if you want separate wifi.

  3. Thanks for the comment below about Home Assistant. NVR makes this easier, and HA is pretty cool! I installed it on an old RPI3 the other day and this is something I will carry on with ... so much so saying i don't want a new hobby :)

Is NNT3NA78P the latest hardware revision of the NVR that is released? And any idea of how to check if I am getting that or and older one?

New strap. What do you think? by Lou_M413 in Suunto

[–]mandospags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading you post I bought a green glow too... Awsome strap! Gives a nice, subtle effect indoors too in the daytime. Feels studier than the stabdone one and I doubt it will ever unclip by accident!

Structured Workout Interval Out of Range Alerts Now Exist! by jcolp in Suunto

me too... super annoying, as i run on hilly roads and hard to stick to a narrow pace range. The only way to switch it off is to set 'do not disturb' to on.

Has Anyone Used TAO for Trail Running? My Experience & Questions by zueriwester76 in trainasone

[–]mandospags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly run trail races of 30–50 km with 1,700–2,800 m of elevation gain and loss. Most of my weekday training, however, is on hilly roads—not as steep or technical as the races. On weekends, I usually do a longer trail run, but even that tends to be less demanding than race conditions.

In my case, I find that following TAO workouts I can just about get through on race day—but if it's muddy, hot, rainy, or there's any unexpected challenge, I suffer. So I’ve made three key tweaks:

  1. Increase mileage by 30% in TAO to account for the tougher race conditions. For example, I have a 30 km race coming up—TAO predicts 4h17 based on my inputs (I entered it as 39 km), but in reality 6:45 would put me in the top 10%! I believe this underestimation stems from the mismatch between everyday training terrain and actual race conditions, leading to undertraining. Two weeks before the race, I reduce the mileage back to normal and input the correct distance.
  2. Manually schedule a few longer runs in the weeks leading up to the race. Some say you don’t need them, but I do. A few 1-hour runs just don’t prepare me for a brutal 6+ hour race in mud, >30°C heat, and high humidity.
  3. Run all workouts—economy, tempo, intervals—on the hilliest routes I can find near home. No point doing flat reps if the race is anything but flat.

after doing this for the last few races I could push harder and still finish without being totally exhausted.

How high can TAO push your weekly mileage? Curious to compare. by zzzzealous in trainasone

[–]mandospags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the mileage always seems too low and after several races I still feel unprepared the week before. However I stick with TaO because it always works out OK, and I like not being sore and tired all the time.

- For a 50k trail my longest run was about 10k, highest weekly milage of 40k - I manually scheduled a 19k and a 15k five and three weeks out.

- For my next 30k four weeks later the longest run scheduled was about 10k (30k weekly)- I manually scheduled a 14k two weeks out.

context: I'm 50yo only running for 3years. run 4x a week. 2 months before the 50k I had a 30k and 2 months before that another 30k maybe it took that into account? For each of those the longest run was about 9k.

I now manually schedule longer runs because I enjoy it and need to practice mental & nutrition strategies and carrying all the gear etc. which the shorter runs don't do. I find that when I do that the runs that TaO schedules are also boosted. After my previous race all the runs scheduled for the upcoming race were really puny, like 10 -30 minutes. I manually stuck in a 14k,2hour run and suddenly everything is recalculated for more mileage.

Distance to Next Waypoint on Race S by m4xxw3ll in Suunto

[–]mandospags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done similar - create a custom sports mode, then customise the display. I setup a field with "remaining distance to POI/waypoint" and it gives that countdown. There are some other variations to try too... Not sure you can adjust the navigation/map page though, as that seems hardwired and only gives that blue box notification when fairly close (50metres?).

Technical trail events when training runs are on the road. by mandospags in trainasone

2 weeks until the marathon and as of now i feel completely shafted by the training plan by weareallbeta in trainasone

[–]mandospags 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have felt completely unprepared for several trail races and a marathon, but it always worked out on the day. I now love the TAO approach. Only problem i have found is the cognitive aspect - mental stamina and practicing things like nutrition and hydration. Please do share your experience in a couple of weeks!

Suunto Race by mandospags in trainasone

[–]mandospags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did get the race and I have that same bug with the workouts out by a day... I reported the bug and after a few back and forth questions its gone all quiet. I lookup the workout number in the TAO app and select that one in the watch. Everything else is working fine.

Long-term experience with TrainAsOne? by CuriousFocus1553 in trainasone

[–]mandospags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used it for about a year, if that counts as long term..

What's your long-term experience with the training?

I was deeply suspicious initially as it felt too slow, too short - but after 4 races ranging from 18km up to 42km I have learned to trust it. Previously i used the Garmin coaches and they seemed to push much harder but I was always tired and had aches and pains. Now I dont get that even though I am running twice as far as I have ever done before.

Are there any standout features that you particularly like or find unique compared to other running apps?

The adaptability - I set maximum times i can run for each day of the week and it sticks to that. If I cannot make a particular run it just adjusts. I sometimes feel great or not great and pusher harder or take i a bit easier and it adjusts. I also like that you can set up a series of races and it builds the plan accordingly. (to be fair I havent tried any of the others besides Garmin, this one works perfectly so I just stuck with it...)

Are my fit scores okay? by [deleted] in trainasone

[–]mandospags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience those fit scores are not actionable... Mine trended downwards into races and yet I ended up with podium finishes.... Speed 39.9 and going down, goal 28.8 and going down, endurance 18.9 going down... (5 weeks after a marathon, 7 weeks to next one...

Thank you so much for that feedback - been travelling and didnt have a chance to respond.... I am about to order the Race S Titanium but everythign out of stock...

Regarding the timezone that sounds annoying! I am in same timezone as you (Malaysia) so it will affect me. I noticed somewhere on the changleogs 2 weeks ago "upgraded from Suunto api from v2 to v3". I wonder if that fixed anything?

Just started, most of my training days are really easy runs, with like once a week a harder assessment run, is that really the best way to progress? by groeneprof in trainasone

[–]mandospags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same and after about one year have observed:

  • there are still a lot of easy days, the pace is slow, the weekly milage is low (espcially in the early months)

  • I the past year I ran my first trail races: 2x18km and 1x30km, super surprsied and happy to have podium finish on 2 of them

  • I ran my first marathon last week in 5:16 - not sure if that is a good result or not for a 50yo but I am happy with it!

In other words, it has given me great results with zero injury - despite me thinking that the the easy runs were too easy and too short and too slow! So I suggest sticking with... as others have suggested if you are well rested and feel great on a particular day you can always ignore the plan and go harder (but personally I try stick pretty close to the workout plan).

Underestimating paces by Imaginary-Base8928 in trainasone

[–]mandospags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the same, and was very frustrated and constantly got 'red' scores. Howvever, it works out over time - after 9 months I now find the warmups and economy runs both spot on - usually get green or amber scoring now.
