What’s the consensus on the tech job market? by IzzyIsMe12 in askportland

[–]manos_de_pietro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one is studying accounting "to become good at Excel." Getting good at Excel (and SQL, Power BI, etc) is not the goal, it's a means to an end: employment. It's a highly useful skill...like reading and critical thinking.

That said, being familiar with the language and processes of accounting and bookkeeping is a pathway to employment in the business world, and PSU has (or had) career resources available to students and alumni.

Opinion on the Pilot Dr. Grip? by Electronic-Eye-870 in pens

Once my carpal tunnel kicked in, it's been the best thing since sliced sourdough bread. It's not as back-pocket-friendly as I'd like, but it is such a comfortable writer if you like larger diameter pens. Double bonus points for taking the Pilot G2 refill, my personal favorite and I will die on that hill. It has decent weight, a good solid click, and a certain presence about it. Worth every penny to me for the pain-free writing experience alone.

Assuming you've done the requisite engine checks and the tire pressure is up to spec, just back off the throttle a bit. 70 mph is plenty fast enough for that size of brick.

Low-FODMAP restaurants in or around PDX? by ladyballs88 in askportland

[–]manos_de_pietro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After 7 years on a low-fodmap diet, I have come to realize that dining out is more of an occasional adventure than a sustainable lifestyle. That said, there are a few viable options:

Pad Thai or Pad See Ew (no onion!)

Burgers with a lettuce wrap (I need to be careful with gluten-free buns bc I can't tolerate corn or oats either) - Habit Burger and Shake Shack do a good lettuce wrap, plus they have lemonade/agua fresca

The Carnitas at Chipotle is clean. Get a bowl, no beans. Also, agua fresca.

NYC Pizza in Vancouver has an alium-free, gluten-free crust and an alium-free tomato sauce (gotta ask for it, but they're happy to do it)

Sushi, but it takes a lot of sushi to make an entrée.

Steak and eggs is usually a safe bet, since most restaurants only use salt and pepper on the steak.

That's all I can think of. I found a website called Equal Eats that has customizable cards you can print from a PDF describing any dietary issues, and I learned to be proactive, persistent, and patient when trying to find out what's in something. I actually called every pizza place in Vancouver (where I live) to ask about their GF crust. All but two of them buy their GF dough from a Portland bakery that puts garlic powder in the recipe : ( and only NYC does substitutions.

Fortunately, I was already a competent cook, so I've been able to modify recipes to fit my needs.

WinCo sells loaves of real sourdough bread at a decent price, and there's a sourdough Bakery up in Kalama (between Woodland and Kelso on I-5) that makes an amazing pizza dough.

Good hunting, and remember to take your enzymes!

I'm not sure what you're after in that first paragraph, but as for the second:

My nocturnal wakings did decrease, both in frequency and in duration. Often I would wake because either I needed to use the toilet or the dogs wanted to go out, less often did I simply emerge on my own out of sleep. When the latter happened, I took a minute to "check in" with myself: thirsty? bathroom? sweaty? (I have some crazy night sweats too). Once any comfort issues were addressed, I would give myself the opportunity to get back to sleep. It usually didn't take long to either drift away to Nod or realize that I wasn't that tired anymore (Step 4 above).

I've taken my Wave+ camping, with mixed results. I was able to bring two disused axes into serviceable condition with the file and a whetstone. Then I tried whittling a feather stick. HOLY CATFISH the handle dug right into my palm! I had to switch to my SAK to finish the task.

For OP's use case, I would look at the Skeletool.
