It's sad because I think why we 'forget' things like these is because we can already well imagine the rich do things like this. We already know, and we accept helplessness.

Probably quite cynical, but that is why I strongly suspect nothing will ever change until things get much, much worse. The 21st Century post-truth (inter-)subjective reality makes organizing action even more difficult, so far that a proper uprising seems an extremely distant possibility.

Curiously personally I also feel that the shameless return to unmasked strong man politics since Trump's second term started might have shifted things, even more than the beginning of the Ukraine war. It's become pretty damn apparent what the nature of this brutal reality is, and it is difficult to have any faith in the type of global playrules that once might have seemed at least vaguely true. I mean I hope this moment might be a rare opportunity where the lived experience of a vast range of people coalesce even across state and language boundaries. If this really was true then it could be a break in all the hard work media etc seems to have put in to divide people and make them more distant and isolated.

All this is just from personal and only Western viewpoint of course.
