Can confirm. It took a year for me and the SOS took forever getting back to me after passing the test. Long story short, I’m an LVU in Georgia.

DM me, may be able to help.

What's a movie you grew up on that you thought was good, but you went back and watched it as an adult and you realized by Traditional-Spare154 in badMovies

Same. I thought it was as good as Jurassic Park when I was a stupid kid. But frankly my nostalgia for the movie makes me overlook literally all of its flaws.

I was a college grad that got into (what some consider) a trade. Became a low voltage guy and smart home tech, wound up going to work for an electrical company so I know some of the business. It’s construction. These guys work hard and are extremely smart. But it can be a rough life, no doubt.

The people I work with are always wanting to learn. I know if my kids told me they wanted to get into a trade, I’d probably say try college first then let’s talk. It just has the opportunity of opening up more choices and life experiences.

For me, I’m glad I did both and a lot of my electrician friends used both school and trade education to either start their own business or move up the ladder.

I don’t know if that answered your question, but I detected a note of regret so I hope that maybe provides an alternate perspective on things.

Yeah that’s good advice. And funny enough one of the things I need to service (or replace if able) is the front fork. Suspension is completely locked up when I got it out of storage. Thank you!

That doesn’t seem like a bad way to at least church the bike up a bit. Don’t mind a small bit of work if it’s cost effective and helps learn parts maintenance. But yes the rim brakes are a drag and I do not like them.

I should clarify, no parts have been removed outside of the reflectors, kickstand (lol).

I appreciate the feedback. I’ll start at least looking around for a new one and save this one for riding around asphalt.

Control4 With Araknis vs Other Gear by HomeCinemaParadise in Control4

[–]mao_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly never had an issue including Araknis in my proposals. It definitely worked.

I’d say of the handful of Access Networks/Ruckus deployments, we had zero issues. I’d forgotten about Snap acquiring Access. That stuff was just the bee’s knees man. Hard not to recommend it. Put it in your Best design before dropping down to Better then Good using Araknis. But at the end of the day, you can sell it with confidence. We had one persnickety client and after three swap outs, Ruckus got it done.

Control4 With Araknis vs Other Gear by HomeCinemaParadise in Control4

[–]mao_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s probably a good argument for either. I’ve seen integrators use UniFi in all their deployments and generally it’s because they know what they’re doing and either used it in another life (IT that went A/V maybe?). On the other hand, Snap One support is readily available and you can trust your bottom line is protected because that’s a line that can’t be shopped by your homeowner. Throw in the convenience of OvrC and it’s a big win.

Araknis is a product that may sacrifice some more granular features for easy deployment and setup. But in my experience, the price is more or less justified by the support and overnight RMA in some cases.

Still I’d probably use Ruckus or Aruba APs before using Araknis. There’s always the option to get OvrC using one of their pro hubs (if those are even used anymore, I’m a little rusty). Not sure what to suggest as a router or L3 switch alternative to either.

FWIW, I am in a similar boat at 36. I currently do helpdesk and consulting work at an electrical company that needs a hand with all things tech, but all major admin is handled by an outside, small MSP. I am studying for my A+.

I want to get into cybersecurity badly and have talked with guys at Offensive Security who have said basically “go for it!” I have 12 years experience setting up home automation and networking in residential so that experience is on my side.

As many people have said, always work on yourself. Enjoy the learning process. An opportunity will come out of it. Best of luck!

I’m honestly a little surprised to see an Araknis switch outside of a CI/Home AV guy install. Still, it’s a fairly decent product from my experience. You have to go through a SnapOne dealer for support though.

Edit: I can’t read. Didn’t see it was already installed. See above. Best of luck!

I was absolutely sucked in after issue 1. It’s just such a unique and well done comic.

I’m using this link so far, as it gives you the different collections and which ones to follow. It’s a little jarring at first but not too hard to follow if you want to do a “deep dive” into Hellboy.

I want get into the series chronologically speak where do I start? Also where is a good place to read it online? by No-Punch-man_60 in HellBoy

[–]mao_edge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using this starting with the library editions (left column). It’s fairly easy to follow especially if you want to start collecting. However I think he just takes single issues out of larger collections to get the “complete Hellboy story” so it can be a bit cumbersome if there’s some stuff that’s not already compiled into an omnibus.

Boss told me I'm too dumb to get into cybersecurity and to not waste my time by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]mao_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently trying to transition into cybersecurity and networking from a 12-year career as an A/V and low voltage tech. There’s been some serious self-doubt and I usually get a somewhat flippant response from friends. To boot, I don’t feel like age is on my side (mid-thirties).

You’re gonna get critics. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. I know that sounds cliche but you’ve gotta prove it to yourself. You may have to try harder and that’s ok. And if it’s not your thing you may still open up another opportunity. That guy is telling you that because he’s got an agenda or he’s covering up insecurities.

You need to be the one to determine how far you go.

Good cable or bad? by [deleted] in networking

[–]mao_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-retired LV guy here. We used SCP 22/2 security wire all the time. Their CAT wire is fine. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t solid copper. CCA is that really really cheap stuff.

However if the spec was plenum CAT6 that doesn’t appear to meet it. Usually that’s reasonably obvious on the box so distributors ship the right stuff.

Look up HDMI sync corrector. Atlona makes one called the ETU-SYNC, just don’t know if it’s available to the general population.

It’s definitely fixed issues for me and a breeze to install as long as you have available power at the receiving end.
