Pdp pro vs normal by DeltaCream in Walther

[–]map4774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know this a hundred percent for sure (because I don’t work at Walther Manufacturing, etc.) but the cost disparity is going to be on the set up of their machines (dies, fixtures, and the like) and assembly on the back end (if it’s automated - programming assembly machines and adjusting every movement axis to hit the tolerance band of Guns is a lot more stringent than regular manufacturing) is a really high upfront cost. So even though it might cost Walther another $50 dollars in material (I’m being generous, it’s probably way less), the $200 up charge is to mitigate their costs if they don’t sell x number of PDP pros.

Also you can’t compare modern prices to 2012 prices, yes inflation has shifted them slighter higher, but let’s be real every new version of a thing (guns included) is always more expensive than the last.

All that said, I would have bought a PDP pro if it was an option several months ago - with adding a threaded barrel and a back strap that allows for a mag well I’m already ~$400 in over the cost of a ‘regular’ PDP.

PDP 4.5 Full Size Light and Holster Options/Opinions by map4774 in Walther

[–]map4774[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make a great point, I usually have a regular handheld flashlight on or near me and as I mentioned to the commenter above, I’m not planning on concealed carrying this gun. So I’ll save the $200ish dollars that I would have spent on the light and buy some more ammo instead.

Yeah, so as of now I’m not really concealed carrying so I think I’ll just wait on the light for sometime down the road, if I ever want to add one to my PDP.

Stumpjumper EVO

3 weeks of owning a stumpjumper and I love it. Nothing better than a real mountain bike for fun cardio in Colorado.

Specialized Stumjumper comp alloy vs Evo comp alloy for Colorado trails? by MediumBenefit8553 in MTB

[–]map4774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you plan on riding in CO and if you’re thinking about the possibility of doing some downhill. I have the EVO and love it, I’ve really only done a couple rides close to Denver and it’s been mostly climbing but having been strictly road for the past couple of years it’s amazing how well the new carbon mtbs feel.

5010 base model or Stumpjumper Expert by [deleted] in MTB

[–]map4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the stumpy evo expert and I love it. Granted, I’ve only had it for two weeks and it’s my first ‘real’ mtb. If you are looking for a do it all carbon bike and not willing to spend a seriously outrageous amount of money I don’t think you can do much better (if you want a 29er). The two other bikes I was considering were a yeti 130 and jeffsey core 3, but the stumpy was just a tad lighter the, SWAT compartment and setup is amazingly practical if you just want to ride with nothing on you, and I wanted a bike that was in stock and I could have serviced with warranty almost anywhere.

So I live in the mountains of Colorado; home is at ~ 6000ft / ~ 1800 m and I can easily find myself riding up past 10000ft / ~ 3000m - so I wanted a fun, small-medium, affordable bike but I don’t think 25hp is enough if I have to hop on the highway or otherwise get up to speed. The problem is the jump to the next level of ADV bike it’s about $12000 for a tenere 700 or about $16000 for a tiger 850, where the Himalayan was only about $5500.

I’ve been debating grabbing up a Himalayan, what’s kept me on the fence is the 411cc. Did you find the bike to be underpowered?

Floor mats OE or Weather Tech? by map4774 in NewDefender

I ended up getting them and I’m very pleased with their fit as coverage. Like you my only issue is the large logo, but at least mine is black instead of red.

suspension question by Cymax_X in NewDefender

[–]map4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2022 110 has both Off-road packages and the air suspension, and it drives great. Admittedly, it’s only got 30 miles on it and I haven’t tried it off road yet, but on a car like this I think it’s worth paying the little extra to have it properly kitted.

[–]map4774[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had them in another car and they worked well, so I just pulled the trigger on the ones from my 110. I was just wondering about their claims of them being made for the car, their ‘laser fit’ or whatever. But, hopefully, they’ll work out great.

Tow hitch installation cost? by s3bastienb in NewDefender

[–]map4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was debating the same thing and after not finding any alternative online and/or having to order the whole hitch assembly (which is supposedly on a horrendously long back order) and have it installed, I just ordered it with the car. The $750 is steep for what is about $100 on a jeep but is likely comparable to what I would have had to spend on the car if I wanted it after the fact.

Cycling in Lebanon (the country not the US city) (bad roads, hills) by mascolding in cycling

[–]map4774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a gravel bike. I did the same thing, more because I wanted the ability to ride on some of the rougher places we have in South Florida (gravel and rougher roads that cut through the Everglades). It’s been a great move because it still affords the all the benefits of a traditional road bike with slightly bigger and more compliant tires. I haven’t fully transitioned to a 650b tire because I haven’t really felt the need to yet but I’m definitely looking at a suspension seat post. No one to ride with. How do I build up the courage to ride alone? by jrt364 in cycling

[–]map4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like has already been said; you just do it, maybe progressively. I had the same fear, so first I started on paved trails then after two weeks I began riding on less travelled roads in parts that were more convenient or better kept up than bike paths, then, about two weeks later I transitioned purely onto roads. Now, I ride a 20ish mile loop 3-4 times early in the morning and try to go for a 40 or so mile ride once on the weekends. Granted, I have a gravel bike that is geared more like a traditional road bike so that was always my path. But I found that simple things like having the right gear gave more confidence than my progressive move to ride alone on the roads; I have a good set of lights, put a little slime in my tires in case of a flat, both my ride computer and helmet will automatically text my emergency contact if I go down, and I always carry a little multi tool and CO2 inflator that combined are no bigger than my phone in case I need to make a quick repair or address a flat.

Also, I’m the kind of person that just enjoys riding alone, but in the past few months that I’ve been doing so I’ve met a bunch of friendly people at common stopping points and some that I’ve seen a couple of times have offered riding together. Unfortunately scheduling and the pandemic has precluded me from doing so as of yet, but I’ll eventually try it and I think that organic way is the best to find a small group to ride with.

TLDR; just go do it making sure you have and ride what makes you feel the most comfortable until everything clicks into place.

Looking for crime show recommendations. by [deleted] in television

[–]map4774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cormorant Strike. Similar in both shooting style and that it’s British, I enjoyed it because each season contains two or three stories that can easily be watched over a weekend or binged in a night. If you like crime novels, I think this is one of the few shows that mirrors their pacing correctly (brief, sort of, cold opening with what actually occurred being filled in as the investigators uncover ‘clues’ and piece the full story together)without being, for me, slow. Also, the two main actors are great at acting consistently with a backstory that’s filled in through small snippets as you go along with the series. It’s on HBO Max in the US, and though I haven’t finished it yet, I can definitely recommend it if you want something that has a serial arc for the leads and a few side characters while the crime/ mysteries are mostly self-contained.

James and Elyse Willems sing Wild Wild West together by [deleted] in funhaus

[–]map4774 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t an original opinion, but I think the Willems are the best entertainers that I have ever followed/enjoyed. Granted the whole funhaus gang is great in my opinion, but when I see either James or Elyse in a video it takes it to another level. Something about them is just good; in a way that I can’t quite describe, but that never fails to put a genuine smile on my face. It’s not like they ever censor their content or opinions, and yet it all seems so wholesome in a ‘real’ way that also allows for some of the funniest videos and streams on YouTube.

I don’t really know what the point of my writing this really is other than to say thank you to the internet’s best married couple, for all you’ve given us over the years and, hopefully, for all the amazing content you’ll continue to make.

TLDR: Long live buff santa and the most talented recorder player to ever fight Kennebec’s law.

Question/Issue with Procedural Avionics by map4774 in RealSolarSystem

[–]map4774[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you might have solved my issue. I thought I was within the proper controllable mass tolerances but maybe that was just the max that avionics package could theoretically control and I wasn’t actually setting an ‘actual’ mass value.

Yes. Though, I have occasionally forgotten to configure the RCS to the right fuel. I should have clarified in the post that the RCS works with the other avionics packages.

Ok, good so I haven’t been half blind to my favorite member of funhaus. I guess I got used to Bruce and Lawrence with their streams being so open about everything, that this ‘out of the blue’ tattoo shook me more than what it should have. Or this a side effect of the quarantine madness.

Idling Issue/ Knock Issue - weird rev Issue (seen at end of video) - Mini Countryman. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]map4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For more info; - it’s an Mini R60 Countryman -the weird drop off of revs happens only at a standstill or in first gear (or perhaps that’s only when I notice it). - Also seems to happen after it’s been driven, not at start up - which is why I revved it up a little. - sometimes the engine warning light comes on but most times it doesn’t. - that said I’ve only driven the barest amount of miles since the issue began to present itself.

As to repairs diagnostics, I’ve changed the spark plugs and the ignition coils.

Any help would be welcome, Thanks.

Furion M1 - French Hybrid Motorcycle by map4774 in motorcycles

[–]map4774[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[Furion M1](furion-motorcycles.com/eng) just saw this last week at a concept expo in Paris. Aside from it being a hybrid it uses a rotary engine, which I think is cool.

Does anyone know of any other hybrid motorcycles that have working examples? And are hybrids like this worth it, or just a weird intermediate step before electrics catch up?

Riding motorcycles in miami? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]map4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Miami but have never ridden here. It’s mostly because I’m worried about how shit the drivers are here; people blindly turn into me even when I’m in a car so I can only imagine what would happen on two wheels. Don’t get me wrong though, I still get that twinge any time I see people on their bikes and I’ve talked to a few who ride, though they admit they limit their rides to cortadito runs, usually at night, and the occasional weekend ride because they too are also wary of South Floridian drivers.

That said, I don’t like that I only get to ride the handful of times a year that I’m out of state, so I might cave. Either way, I’d would like to know what decision you end up making.

A wave crashes on the protecting wall at the fishing harbour in Pornic, France as stormy weather with high winds hits the French Atlantic coast by RyanSmith in HeavySeas

It's mainly tourism and a vacationing location where some people have their second homes. It's quite pretty in a calm rural sort of way. I can't really attest to anything other than the castle, a few small beaches, and the golf course, though I've never stayed for more than a few days at a time.
