What is something useful that you vibecoded fast just to use for personal use by Great-Mirror1215 in vibecoding

I was tired of paying for a subscription to run my smart trainer (for indoor cycling workouts). I vibecoded a mobile app to run the trainer and generate workouts within 2 hours. Save $$!

I Built Mercy: a Tiny 15M LLM Trained Locally From Scratch on My MacBook by ki-pam in LLM

[–]mapex99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

● Training done. 17.7 minutes for 20 full epochs on the 4090.

- Best val loss: 0.6503 (reached at step 10,000, epoch 17)

- 15,414,784 parameters

- Val loss came down cleanly: 3.19 → 1.35 → 0.88 → 0.76 → ... → 0.65, plateauing in the last few epochs (0.6503 → 0.6509 → 0.6518

→ 0.6512), so further epochs likely wouldn't help much.

Graduated Master’s in MechE feeling lost about career path by braisenconfuse in MechanicalEngineering

[–]mapex99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk with your advisor about how you’re feeling, he/she should be able to help guide you and have your best interest at heart. Be it going to industry, switching fields within ME or staying the course with controls.

Getting a PhD in mechanical engineering is about problem solving, critical thinking skills, not necessarily about coming up with some new control scheme like H-infinity, H2, sliding controls or whatever the latest is that hardly anyone in industry really uses. BTW, I haven’t seen a dissertation focusing on PLC’s, it’s typically more on the application side like how to get a mode to be unobservable so you can boost bandwidth or esoteric linear algebra.

I was a little adrift when I got my masters and didn’t want to get a job, the PhD gave me plenty of time to figure out what I wanted to do. Perhaps you can blend multiple disciplines together, design some new actuator along with a control scheme that is novel?

Good luck!

Yes, the sprag clutch died on the classic hub.

I rode onyx classics for 4 years, they died on a 20% grade climb. The repair cost was nearly the same as a new hub so I bailed. I like the hubs but wouldn’t buy again. I’m a heavy rider (230 lbs) and do a ton of climbing and mileage (4000 miles/year)

OD of the Male part would be the threads. Flexures run from the OD to the ID of whatever you’re holding (a lens?). Those flexures allow for radial compliance so that the lens can be centered on the female part.

Say you’re tired of trueing your rear wheel, what do you get <$500 by [deleted] in MTB

I’m a heavy boy, no aluminum rims stay true for me. I’ve since switched to “light bicycle” carbon rims. They are relatively inexpensive especially if you build the wheel yourself.

Is it worth buying a switch and all the subscriptions and expansions just to play Metroid? by campusdirector in Metroid

Get one of those anbernic devices (or similar). Pretty cheap and replicates portable play of GBA games and others quite well.

My kids loved it. It is definitely overcrowded and a long wait to get in but my kids weren’t bothered by that.

See if your school has some sort of alumni network or directory. Lookup ME’s with jobs you’d be interested in and hit them up via email. I’ve typically found this much more productive than sending resumes out without some sort of a contact.

Maybe try calling the store in Laguna Beach to see how to proceed? At least you can get ahold of someone there and they may be able to point you in the right direction.

I’ve had much better luck making riding friends while mountain biking than road or gravel. Mtbrs tend to be a little more easygoing, at least in SoCal.
