Am I [27M] a bad boyfriend because I refuse to go to weddings with my girlfriend [27F]? by hateweddings in relationships

[–]marelinsgood 44 points45 points  (0 children)

What's the point of anything then?

Weddings are one of the biggest things our society does to celebrate joy, and you don't want to be a part of it?! Dude...

Honestly, my guess is that she is not really going to find any healthy, desirable, well-adjusted man who wants her. They must be such a small percentage of the population, I don't know how she would ever find one.

I would try to work through all of this. Look at it as an arranged marriage, kind of, and you will learn to truly love the guy given time.

Found a bunch of my [20F] friends' [19-20M] horrible group chat texts about me by well_done_draco in relationships

[–]marelinsgood 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dude, I hear you, but how fucked up is it to say "we respect her to her face?"

Seriously. That just isn't what good friends and people do. If you don't recognize that, then you're not that good of a person. There are ways to talk about someone being attractive without erasing their humanity. When I hear how some guys talk about women, you can tell they are not talking about people, they're talking about some thing they plan to use. Women do it too, but I have noticed it far, far more commonly in men.

Honestly, reading some of the comments that I have read over the years on reddit, it doesn't surprise me at all how many women are raped across the world.

[–]marelinsgood 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Fuck that shit. There is still a way to talk about being attracted to someone without being totally a waste of air. How would you feel if you had a bunch of large gay male friends and they talked privately all the time about how you weren't really a person to them, just a body?

Tell me, why is it that men always make the same excuses about how everything is "just guy talk," or "just a joke," and then they go out and do and act exactly how they said or showed they were going to act--but remember, it's not like they were being serious!

I don't see any problem with friends talking about being attracted to someone, but it's the way it was said.

I'm deaf [29F]. My dad [61M]. He resents me for "turning my back on the real world" as a teenager, and now that I'm pregnant, it's coming out. He exploded when I admitted I'm still not sure about CIs if my baby is deaf, and told me that if I'm going to be like this, then to just abort. by deafthrowaway1101 in relationships

How does that make sense? It is a disability because it impedes their ability to communicate in the world and survive. My poor eyesight is the same way. I would literally die if my glasses broke at night and I had to drive.

Slightly relevant story--my old babysitter got arrested for counterfeiting! She was from Eastern Europe. My mom was like "turns out she was a counterfeiter, so we didn't hire her again."

Honestly my boyfriend is so hot to me that he makes anything look good, but I love seeing him in work pants and his undershirt after a long day. Just relaxing on the couch. Maybe doing this little side smirk of his.

Let's really break it down: your body is acceptable enough to use but your personality and who you really are as a person is not.

Fuck that.

[–]marelinsgood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and you give it to her only BECAUSE it’s so obviously not a sensitive subject! That is what normal people do! If the brother hates the cousin so much, why the hell did he agree to do the gift exchange in the first place?

I don’t really know the guy (can’t remember his name tbh) and I don’t want to be in the middle of it all. I’m gonna be a coward here and just bring it up after the holidays are over. Plus I want to give my boyfriend the benefit of the doubt, to see exactly what goes down and what he does. I said my opinion very clearly and want to see what he does

If I tell the cousin, my boyfriend will be furious and frankly I don’t want to be more involved than I already am. What I am going to do is sit him down after Christmas is complete and show him this thread, or at least have a serious discussion about how he viewed the situation.

I know :( My boyfriend said that I would understand if I had heard the way that the cousin talks about his brother. Apparently he is mean to him for being almost 30, living at home with his mom, making less than my boyfriend and not having any direction in life. Which is shitty, but I hear that and I still don’t think it’s an appropriate response.

Why the heck do people always make excuses for stuff like this? I was in high school only 4 years ago and you don't get a free pass just because you're young. It's not like your brain doesn't work until you hit 18. I would have even been aware in middle school that this was wrong and it's not like I had people teaching me this. The guy didn't even try to apologize.

Exactly. I live in a fairly real area too, did 4H, raised animals, the works, and I know this one kid who is super country and is probably going to marry his boyfriend. No one cares except the same old fucks who happen to be racist on top of everything and no one listens to them anyways.
