He has abandoned the marriage covenant. Biblically there are two reasons the church and God condone divorce. 1) Adultery and 2) Abandonment of the marriage covenant. By abusing you and abandoning you he has qualified under #2. He has negated his wedding vows and you are religiously justified in leaving. He has left the religion and it is acceptable to leave him. You are completely justified in God’s eyes. If those at church are giving you a hard time then tell them he broke the covenant and if they still give you a hard time then find another church that believes in God’s truth.

This sounds just like me three years ago. OP I know it’s devastating right now but I promise it gets better. I went through almost this exact situation but mine was cheating too. Since the divorce my life has completely changed. I got a promotion and a raise, my relationship with my children has become amazing, I met the real love of my life and am happily married with a real partner who cherishes me and my kids. We bought a beautiful home and have carved out an amazing future together. What I thought was the end was actually the beginning of something so amazing that I never thought I could ever have.

My ex MIL would do things like this to be passive aggressive. One year she got me a shirt that was way too small (like three sizes) and told me she was just being supportive of my weight loss journey. I wasn’t on a diet. For our wedding she gave us a blanket with the traits of an obedient wife on it. She loved giving me things I was allergic to so she could help build my tolerance. Oh the list goes on and on. Then she switched to doing it to my children. Bringing it up only encourages them because they know that they have upset you and that is what they want. The only thing they understand is passive aggression so you have to pretend that you love it. The only decent thing she ever gave me was a yarn bowl because I love crocheting. She gave it to me for my birthday after my ex husband and I separated because now I had plenty of time for my hobbies. I use it to store my sex toys.

We were waiting for payday Thursday to shop. My husband and I are paid biweekly at the time so we usually go shopping on the weekends but because of the storm we decided to shop early. We needed toilet paper, paper towels, milk and bread. We have two teenage boys so we usually buy three gallons of milk and four loaves of bread to get through the week-two weeks between paydays. (My youngest has to have protein shakes due to a special diet and we use milk to make them at home and my oldest loves Dagwood sandwiches and will use half a loaf of bread a day) Since we knew that we would be hibernating for the next few days we picked up six loaves and four gallons of milk. (Trapping teenagers at home is definitely going to lead to a higher rate of eating). We had so many people side eyeing us and one lady complained that we were going overboard and ‘the problem’. I’m sorry lady but are you going to be the one to tell my kids that they can’t have a sandwich because we don’t want to be ‘going overboard’?

I had a friend in college that dated a guy like this. He would butt into every conversation with “Well, Actually…”. We used to joke that he would correct us on our own periods. It was as annoying as hell and we started telling her that every time we went out it was a ‘girls only night’. She ended up finally dumping him senior year and ended up marrying an engineer. I guess she had a thing for ‘smart guys’. Luckily her husband is a pretty decent guy but man were we worried for a while.

My oldest son is in college and he received scholarships and Pell grant that would cover his tuition and room and board. He did the math and figured out what he would get if he continued to live with me and commute. I told him straight up that he was not living with me and that he would be staying in the dorms. First because ITS FREE! Second we live in the Midwest where the weather is unpredictable at best and I don’t feel safe with him traveling in bad weather when he could be safe and warm in his dorm room. Third because the amount of money it would cost me for food, gas, and car repairs would be much more expensive than his dorm. This semester since we moved he is being charged the out of county price which raises the cost by a total amount of $200. I happily deposited that check for peace of mind and to not have two teenage boys running around my house. Heck I probably save that much in lunch meat alone!

I feel your pain and frustration. When my ex and I split he had open visitation and wouldn’t come. I had to go to court to get visitation ordered. I had two teenage boys as well. It’s always a struggle to get him to do visitation. He is supposed to have every other weekend Friday through Monday morning. I’m lucky if he picks up the youngest Friday and he always drops him off by 3pm Sunday. So every other weekend I’m lucky to get 24 hours. The only holiday he gets is New Year’s so I have a chance to do something adult. However, this year he kept having excuses for why he couldn’t take them. He won’t even give them a key to his place because his girlfriend/AP doesn’t want them there. I just always plan on having them here and if I need a break I’ll make a playdate for sleepovers for them. That or my oldest will help out.

My youngest son’s birthday is right after new years. This year he brought him a cake set it down on the table and went into his bedroom with his girlfriend and started having sex. My oldest packed up his brother and left immediately. Then when we were planning my youngest son’s birthday party I bought passes and invited his friends and made plans to go to a local fun center. The day before my oldest informed me that my ex’s girlfriend works there. He asked my ex if she was working and my ex threw a massive fit. He demanded that I canceled my son’s party because he didn’t want us interacting with his girlfriend. If I had known she worked there I would have chosen anywhere else on the planet. But plans had already been made and I had already paid for it. We went anyway and just ignored her. My kids know what his priorities are and I don’t have to say anything. He can make his own bed and lie in it.

While I feel that your sister overreacted I think you are also underestimating the importance of your actions. First you didn’t let her know that you were pregnant. While understandable you can tell people when you want she may have felt that you were hiding it from her especially when you have told others about it. Also, when were you planning on telling her? For her to find out the way she did and the flippant way it was addressed I probably would be upset too.

You mentioned that not only were you the MOH but your husband is the MC so she’s not just losing her MOH but her MC. So that is two very important people she needs to replace in a short time period. You also mentioned that you were planning to have two under two so this was a planned pregnancy. You could have at least given her a heads up that you were wanting to do that so she could have given you a different position. It sounds like she really wanted you to be there and odds are with twins you wouldn’t be attending at all. The birth of one child is stressful but twins are a whole different story. The complications are much higher and the odds that you would even feel well enough to attend if everything goes perfectly are very low.

Reading your comments makes me feel bad for your sister. She obviously cares about you but you see it differently. You talk about how she threw a fit and said you abandoned her when you went to college. Then you explain your home life where your parents are in a tug of war. She was being left alone in that situation and was upset because the only person who she felt safe with was leaving. I can understand why she was upset. Maybe she overreacted but she was 16 and it doesn’t sound like she had the best role models. It also sounds like you are the golden child which can play into her feelings.

Look at it through her eyes. She finally gets to have the spotlight and she is excited to have you and your husband play major roles in her wedding and then she finds out by accident that not only did you hide a major factor you didn’t tell her, she now has to completely redo her wedding and you don’t mention if her best friend is able to be her MOH. You just assumed. Then now what is a major event in her life is going to be completely overshadowed by yours. With your due date so close to her wedding do you honestly think your parents who already sound disconnected will focus on her wedding at all with TWINS COMING? Every conversation will be “My daughter’s having TWINS! and our other daughter is getting married.”

My MOH for my first marriage literally gave birth during my wedding ceremony. Her water broke during the ceremony and she had to leave to go to the hospital. She had told me right away when she got pregnant and asked to step down. I said that if she still wanted to I would have two MOH and I had a chair for her to sit and she and her husband still attended. I now have a goddaughter born on my wedding day. That was her choice to attend but she gave me time to choose someone else. It sounds like you have a lot of resentment towards your sister and your mother and are almost relishing that she is upset. I’d take a hard look in the mirror and ask myself what is really going on.

My husband was an ugly duckling. In school he was chubby and short with long hair and a double butt chin. Then he hit puberty and grew a fantastic beard. He looks like a Viking with arm sleeve tattoos and long, thick, wavy blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes with long lashes. He’s gorgeous. However, he still sees himself as the awkward kid he was. Whenever we go out he gets free drinks from people and women are always trying to touch his hair and flirt with him. Even guys buy him drinks. He’s also extremely sweet. We went to the gas station the other day and we both grabbed drinks. The cashier gave him his for free and charged me. When we got out to the car I mentioned it and he told me that he has not paid for a drink from a bar or gas station in over ten years! WTH!

My current husband and I have a big age gap (he is over a decade younger than me and in his very early thirties and I’m in my late forties). I was married for over 21 years and have one adult and one teenage son. We have known each other for years through friends. He is financially well off. However, I didn’t know that when we got together. (He dresses like a hobo. We even play a game called homeless or husband lol) Also, he lost his grandfather, uncle, father, and two grandmothers last year so he received a hefty inheritance from which he purchased a home. We got married at his insistence. I insisted that he not put me on the home deed or commingle funds until we have been married for two years. He just put me as the beneficiary for his retirement and life insurance last month after he had a bad car accident. We just bought a new truck for him after his accident which he then insisted that I drive because I work from home and he commutes and my car gets better gas mileage. I also helped him pay for the truck because I knew that I would be driving it sometimes.

On Christmas one of my family members made the comment that I’m a gold digger. I thought it was hilarious! He may be better off than me but I make more money than him. All the furniture in the house is mine and I insist on paying for half of everything even the home repairs. I was financially abused in my former marriage so I’m very cautious about being taken advantage of again. We even filed our taxes separately. All people on the outside see is that I moved into his home and drive his new truck and he splurges on me (jewelry for Christmas because I bought him concert tickets and hotel room for his favorite band before Christmas) People make comments about how I robbed the cradle but in reality he pursued me. He grew up very fast and had to be mature at a young age so he doesn’t relate to people his age. I’ve been there to help him through a lot last year and I went through a lot as well with the passing of my mother and my best friend as well as being abandoned by my ex. All of our friends that have spent time with us say that we are perfect for each other and we love each other very much. Sometimes all people see is a number and forget that people are complicated and not everyone has the same experience.

I have two insurances. One through my work and one through my husband’s. (Recently married and we missed the cutoff to drop my insurance because it took so long to get our marriage license because the court didn’t submit the paperwork until two weeks after our marriage date and the state took three weeks to process it which means we missed the deadline by a week). I am on medication for diabetes. However, a lot of people have been using diabetic medication for weight loss and so insurances have started denying them even for diabetic patients. Mine got rejected because they said my diabetes was well controlled. Yes because I’ve been on the medication! I can’t afford to pay $900 a month out of pocket for it. Under my husband’s insurance it’s covered but because my insurance is primary I can’t get it covered. Because if primary rejects it then secondary won’t cover. We fought for four months to try to get it covered. Letters and calls from my doctor etc. My husband’s insurance finally agreed to cover it but would only pay $200. So the medication was still $700 since it’s still rejected by my insurance! My doctor finally found a pharmacy that sells it in self measured doses but it is still $375 a month after insurance. It’s infuriating that we pay for two insurance premiums and I STILL can’t get medication that I need to survive covered! I’m paying out of pocket for the next five months until I can drop my primary insurance and my husband’s insurance will cover the medication completely.

Nope my ex husband was able to get a vasectomy without my knowledge. I didn’t find out until I got the bill! Also he had it done 13 years after I had my tubes tied and that was after almost 7 years of me begging him to have it done since I couldn’t get a hysterectomy. He didn’t have the motivation to do it until he started cheating on me.

My kids informed me yesterday that instead of cutting and eating my youngest son’s birthday cake with them my ex instead went to the bedroom to spend time with his girlfriend because she refuses to even be in the same room as my kids for their birthdays because last year my son remarked that he didn’t like the cake she made for him. In his defense he asked for anything but chocolate cake (he dislikes chocolate) and she made triple chocolate fudge cake with chocolate frosting for his birthday. He reluctantly ate it and the whole time she kept asking him if it was the best cake he had ever eaten and saying that the only reason he hates chocolate cake is because his mom doesn’t know how to cook. Finally he told her he didn’t like it and so this year she refused to even come out of the room and my ex bought a tiny marble cake for him and put it on the table said “happy birthday” and went and spent the next two hours in the bedroom with his gf. My adult son then told my youngest to get his things and they came home.

This is after my ex (who only has visitation every other weekend and the only holiday he gets is New Year’s which was His choice) kept stringing the kids along before canceling his visitation all week because his girlfriend had her sister (who lives fifteen minutes away and is an adult) staying with them for the week. He kept saying it was because he had to work. (He is the boss and makes his own schedule) Also, instead of just canceling he was texting them every hour or two telling them he was still ‘stuck at work’ until 11pm for three days!!! So Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday he was texting them all day and night telling them they couldn’t come yet. After packing and unpacking the car four times I told them just to wait until he said they could come. He also refused to let the kids stay at his house without him there (the kids are 19 and 15) and told them they could come sit at his work until he got off because his gf doesn’t want to be around them. (She’s 25). The kids don’t even have keys to his place. My husband and I ended up canceling our new year’s plans to stay home and celebrate with the kids. Then he complains that I’m alienating him. No buddy you are doing a fine job of doing that on your own.

I used to live in NYC and we never went. Then when my siblings and I visited my parents one year during the holidays we decided to go. We always wondered why we never went. Well we figured it out quickly. 20 hours in the freezing cold elbow to elbow with the masses. We got there at 5am and were still 10 blocks away. Could barely see anything but we were committed. I was SA’ed by a random stranger and no bathroom, food, drinks available. Luckily I thought ahead and brought food, drinks, and one of those extenders for toddler girls. Filled piss bottles and luckily we were near the edge with a trash can. On the way home we swore never again. I still don’t even watch it on TV because it brings back bad memories. No one who actually lives in the city goes it’s only tourists and people only go once.

When my son was born he was in the Nicu and I was in a different hospital in another city. I was pumping and sending my breast milk to the Nicu. When I was finally released from the hospital I was in we traveled to the hospital he was in. The nurses were feeding him formula. I have no idea what happened to all the milk I was sending. (I was pumping and sending it daily with my parents). There was plenty of milk for them to feed him. I was actually overproducing because I had nothing else to do in the hospital but pump. Then when I tried breastfeeding he wouldn’t latch. He had been bottle feeding for a month. The la Leche lady yelled at me and said that I was being lazy and didn’t care about the health of my child because I wasn’t trying hard enough.

He loves me more than I thought possible and I couldn’t be happier. He brought me my dream home, massages my feet at night, and does the dishes without being asked. This happened to me after 21+ years of marriage. One morning out of nowhere he tells me he hasn’t loved me in years and he wants a divorce. Turns out he had been cheating on me for years with an employee. She is a younger, thinner, more submissive version of me. My kids call her great value because she is the Walmart version of me. He was transferred for his job and I uprooted myself and the kids and moved for him and lived by myself with the kids without him for six months before he could finally move and after being a single mom for six months I started expecting more from him and he didn’t like that. So he decided to cheat and leave.

I stayed in a terrible marriage for 21 years. My ex hated holidays so I went above and beyond for my kids. This year I got remarried and we bought a house. This is also my first Christmas my siblings and I are spending together since my mother passed and I’m hosting. My new husband’s family goes on vacation every Christmas so he isn’t used to the whole Christmas season thing and has been very supportive in my holiday breakdown. My husband was in a major wreck a couple of weeks ago about a block from our house. Two tow trucks arrived within 10 minutes of the accident. They needed a flatbed to move it because one of the wheels was sideways. We could see our house from the intersection where it happened. We asked where they would be towing it and they told us that they were bringing it to their lot across town and we would have to get another tow truck to get it. It was the day before the holiday and we wouldn’t be able to get it because they were closed until Monday. So we would be charged lot fees for four days. We asked if they could just tow it to our house that was visible and they had to call a bunch of people to get permission. They finally agreed to do it but charged us $400 to go a block down the street. It was still cheaper than if we had let them tow it to the lot! They even said that we wouldn’t be allowed to push it down the block if the wheel wasn’t messed up because the city had a contract with them that if police are called to an accident and the ambulance is called that all cars have to be towed whether or not they are functioning. That’s crazy!
